When Saffy receives messages from her best friend asking for immediate help, she rushes to her house only to find that all seems fine and her friend Leona, at home with her husband and daughter, denying all knowledge of the texts. Any reassurance Saffy feels, however, is quickly dissipated when Leona, her husband, and her daughter go missing later that day, at which point Saffy herself comes under suspicion as the last person to see the family.

What follows is the investigation into what happened from the perspective of both Saffy and her sister, Poppy. We also jump across timelines, looking at Saffy and Leona’s childhood friendship as well as difficult periods in Saffy and Poppy’s lives. There are a lot of interweaving threads in this story, and the author does a good job of tying them together in a slow reveal to reach the final conclusion of the story. The story was interesting, though I found the pacing a little slow at times, and I also worked out the who, if not the why, fairly early on. However, I would recommend to any fans of a slow-burn psychological thriller.

My thanks to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the arc to review.

Message Deleted was a slow-burn book, full of suspense starting with Saffy receiving an ominous message from her best friend Leona, the message was deleted. Saffy drops everything arriving at Leona’s home to find everyone is fine. Just a few hours later Leona, her partner and her child are missing. Saffy is the last person to see them.
Saffy wants to clear her name and goes on a quest to find out what has really happened.

As I said it was a slow start and there were some chapters that went back in time, which built the characters and helped you get to know them on a better level. The tension built in every chapter.

I am not saying anything about the reveal at all. You will have to read it yourself.

K.L. Slater has always written fantastic books, always different from the previous and this one is brilliant too.

Saffy is heading into a job interview when she receives an odd text from her best friend, Leona. Then the phone screen changes to “message deleted.” Leona later claims to know nothing about the message—but within hours she’s missing along with her daughter.

What a hook! I was immediately drawn into Saffy’s search for answers in this fast-paced, dark and gritty thriller. Jam-packed with twists and turns, Message Deleted kept me guessing to the very end. Another winner from KL Slater!

I wasn’t keen on this. I’m not saying it’s not good, it just isn’t for me. The actions of the police towards the main protagonist of the story irritated me no end.
The book has good reviews elsewhere so it’s clearly a good book, and I don’t like leaving bad reviews - this story just isn’t for me. Sorry.

Interesting blurb and premise but this one really failed in the delivery!!
I thought the characters were flat, Leona was dull and meek so shock she got the ‘domestic violence, only attracts horrible men’ storyline- that one felt far too cliche and honestly a bit offensive.
There was nothing of substance in this storyline. Not even Poppy got her own back and the interaction between her and Wes at the end was nothing short of disappointing.
Saffys breakdown was shunned away like it was some terrible secret and not even remotely discussed enough.

The story felt rushed and cliche like someone decided that the plot was ok as bullet points and didn’t need fleshing out 🤣

This was a page turner! I just had to know what was going on! The pace and structure of the story was very well written, it just kept you wanting to read the next chapter!
Saffy was about to attend a job interview but received some strange messaged from her best friend, which were then deleted by the sender very quickly. Saffy then rushes off to her best friend, leave her interview behind. Her friend doesn't know what she is talking about and Saffy then leaves. But not long after that her friend and her entire family goes missing and Saffy is the last person to have seen them!
There are lots of twists a long the way to keep you guessing and wanting to know more. The main character Saffy, wasn't my favourite and I found her quite annoying at times. But this did not affect how much I enjoyed the book, it may have added to it in a certain way!
I look forward to the next K.L Slater novel.

Fantastic psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat!

There’s a reason why KL Slater is such a prolific thriller writer and that’s because she’s absolutely brilliant! I loved this twisty, dark, and unguessable novel which was an absolute blast to read. A brilliant collection of characters who are flawed and realistic, but with an MC you can fully root for. I loved solving the puzzles along with Saffy and I particularly enjoyed how the plot moves between the past and present to help paint a picture that I didn’t see coming.

Overall, another brilliant book from an author who is an absolute legend in the genre!

K.L. Slater never fails to deliver. Message Deleted is a great suspenseful thrilling read.
When Saffy receives a message on her mobile phone from her best friend with a cryptic message which then cuts off with “ message deleted” she rushes to her friends home but Leona, her daughter Rosie and husband Ash are gone. Believing that Ash has done something to Leona and Rosie, Saffy is determined to find them.
Saffy has never liked Ash, she found him controlling, narcissistic, and cruel. But as Saffy was the last person to see them alive the police are convinced she had something to do with their disappearance.
It is a book full of twists, intense and very hard to put down. The end was a twist I did not see coming!
I would highly recommend this book and look forward to the next,

I love K L Slater and was thrilled to get a e arc of Message Deleted. This is the perfect spine tingling, psychological thriller which had me on the edge of my seat. K L Slater’s writing is so good and had me picturing the whole book so vividly. It’s as if I was there with Saffy! I’d definitely recommend this book to any thriller readers!!

This was certainly a very entertaining read , with lots of surprises along the way. We follow Saffy and her sister Poppy who four years ago suffered an horrendous attack. Saffys friend Leona and her daughter go missing after sending a text then deleting it. The search is on to find them. We do however encounter for me the most annoying detective ever who has zero sympathy for anyone. We have lots of revelations and flashbacks which eventually pieces the story together. I thought it was very readable and enjoyable with some distasteful characters in the mix.

This was a strong storyline, but it didn't quite deliver the potential. It started well but then slowed up and plateued for too long and lost my interest. It picks up but almost too quick and parts feel a bit disconnected.

Saffy is waiting for a job interview when she received a text message from her best friend Leona. The message reads "Can’t speak… don’t text or call… please just come". Saffy drops the interview and goes, but the message just reads as being deleted.

When she gets there, Leona insists all is ok. Saffy is not convinced, especially after Leona had told her recently that she wanted to leave her husband. However, Saffy leaves them to it. Hours later, Saffy has the police at her door saying that Leona and her family had gone missing and Safgfy was the last person to see them.

There is a history to Saffy involving her younger sister who was attacked a few years before.

The police investigation felt so off. Detective Shah comes across as lazy and actually not doing any investigating.

This was my first delve into KL Slater, I can't say I will be rushing back, what could have been a promising storyline turned into a bit of a disappointing read. It was ok but not what I had hoped.

I give this 3.5/5 rounded down to 3.

Book was ok. Found myself skipping to the end to see if what I thought happened di happen and I was right but I wasn't interested enough to actually read it. Sorry

A message was received, and she rushed to see her friend only to be told the message was not sent. There are three main characters, plenty of twists and turns, and plenty of suspense. I would recommend it.

The plot twists were executed flawlessly, keeping me guessing the entire time. The intense suspense made this book impossible to put down. Once again it’s another winner from the author.
