I found this book quite challenging to get into. Often with thrillers it comes down to the characters likeability and whether there are enough clues and foreshadowing. I had to take a break from this one. It's the first time I've read this author so perhaps I just need to re-adjust to her style.
I have sent the review, however plan to complete my comprehensive one on goodreads once I've actually finished.

Thank you for allowing me to read this book early.

I love a good twisty thriller, and this did not disappoint. 2 siblings come together to investigate the death of their father, they don't believe the suicide story and want to find the truth for themselves.
The relationship building between the pair, and the back story on the relationships with their father felt beautifully written and well paced, there was nothing that felt like it didn't belong and was only added in for filler, everything had a reason... but I still do not see the twists coming.

I will be adding Laura Dave to my list of must buy authors alongside Lisa Jewell and Jeneva Rose

This was a mystery but it also centred around the growing friendship between two estranged siblings and I thought the author had done a really good job of combining these two elements. Apparently, the author Laura Dave is known for this but it is my first read by her. The book centred around a very mysterious father, Liam Noone, who dies at the start of the novel. As the two siblings journey to find out exactly how their father died, questions they never knew existed begin to surface leaving them to discover buried secrets about the father they never really knew.

Read if you:
Love a good plot twist
Are as good as Liam at keeping secrets
Love love
Siblings coming together to save the day

I really enjoyed Davw's previous book, and was really excited to read this one.

It definitely lived up to expectations. The story was engaging and thrilling, and I loved the relationships of the siblings. The back story of the father was great and I did not expect the twists and turns throughout.

Overall a really great read.

A brother and sister join forces to investigate the death of their father, never believing it was suicide.
A suspenseful, tense family drama, based around love and grief. The author uses timelines from the past to the present day to tell the narrative & there's some great repartee between the siblings.
Although it wasn't fast paced, it was well written & full of intrigue.
Thankyou to Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This would have been a fantastic epic family/multigenerational drama and I would have loved to have delved deeper into the Liam/Cory romance - or for it to have been a journey from Liam through to Nora, Middlesex-style. I was captivated by their romance and the family histories, and mainly forgot that it was a murder mystery so wasn't guessing or looking for clues as I would usually do with a thriller. I actually felt rather indifferent when the killer was revealed. This probably would have been a 4.5, if not 5, had it been that type of novel.

A thrilling mystery/family saga which kept me engaged throughout. Had to keep looking back to check who was who as it was quite complex over the different timelines but it certainly kept me guessing. Solid and satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended to all mystery lovers.
Thanks to the author, publisher and to netgalley for providing me with this advance digital copy.

The Night We Lost Him is a slow paced family drama based around the love story of Liam and Cory over the decades and, to a lesser degree, Jack and Nora's romance. With so much going on there it's easy to forget that this is also a mystery; how did Liam die? Whilst it was interesting to try and pick up clues along the way, the mystery felt almost irrelevant and it's conclusion a bit of a damp squib. For all that I really enjoyed the book and offer my grateful thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my early copy in return for an honest review.

Love love love this book, for me the pace was brillant and I loved each and every character. They were very wel developed and the plot line just flowed. I haven’t read a book by Laura Dave before but will defo add her to my list of go to in the furture.

While I didn’t find this as reverting as Laura’s first book, this was still a fun twisty thriller with interesting characters and a cool premise.

I wish this hadn’t have been marketed so much around romance as it takes away slightly from the broken, layered characters I wished the story had centered on a little more.

I really enjoyed this book. I would describe it as more of a romance/mystery than a thriller. It is a slow paced story line, although it did keep me guessing and I never would have got the ending. I liked the way it was written and although there were many different characters involved, it never got confusing. The ending was slightly disappointing in that everything seemed to just get wrapped up in a nice bow. I liked the character development within this book - I felt I had a really good understanding of some of the main characters. I also found myself reading quicker and more hurried when Nora was panicked and desperate, which shows an effective writing style! Overall, an enjoyable read, although definitely not a thriller.

A solid 3 stars. More drama than suspense and not as face paced as I hoped for. Still, a good story with enough intrigue to keep me turning pages even when things were moving a bit too slowly.

Didn’t work for me

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with a copy of ‘The Night We Lost Him’ by Laura Dave to review.

This is a solid mystery, which by all accounts I should have enjoyed it more than I did. But somehow, I couldn’t connect to the protagonist and the dual timeline didn’t work for me.

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. In the end, I rounded it down to 3.

A really great story showing the reality of what you don't know about the family and how that can warp the viewpoint of what is going on.

Nora reconnects with her estranged Stepbrother Sam to discover what happened to their father on the night of his death.
This was a fairly quick read for me but sadly I wasn't gripped by the storyline. I would class it more a family drama than a thriller.

I loved this read, it wasn't just a page-turner but a rollercoaster of suspense and emotion that had me hooked from the first chapter to the very last sentence. She seamlessly weaves together the intrigue of a gripping thriller with the tender threads of an unexpected love story, creating a narrative tapestry that is as unpredictable as it is heartwarming. As the layers of the mystery peeled away, I found myself racing towards a conclusion that was as satisfying as it was unexpected. Definitely would recommend to friends and found as much as I loved her last read, this was even better!
