I really enjoyed this , at times a little slow and predictable however it was good .

Character building was strong but I found myself comparing it to your last book the last thing he told me and it just fell short of the same punchiness:

Since this book seemed to have some mixed reviews, I went into it wondering if it would deliver. It did, dear reader. I liked it a lot. There's a lot of unraveling family secrets and drama here. Some people may expect more thriller-esque action, and you won't find that. Also, the mystery did get wrapped up a little too nicely, but I still enjoyed the ride. It's okay, though! It's still worth your time!

I went into this one thinking it would be a fast paced thriller. It was more about family, relationships, love, loss and grief. There was a mystery element but it was the family dynamics and intrigue surrounding the mystery woman that held my interest. The ending was underwhelming but it was always more about closure about their father's death for siblings Nora and Sam.

I enjoyed this and read it so fast, it was a family orientated thriller that makes you remember to do what you want and don’t waste your time.

The synopsis of this book suggests a murder mystery involving a successful family based across New York and LA. Though this is an accurate description, the book offered so much more in terms of romantic and familial relationships.

The book delves into the matter of grief, not only in how loss directly impacts the family, but it acknowledges the impacts on other relationships. This topic is covered in a very realistic way, allowing a reader to relate to the characters.

I found the mystery side of the book to be incredibly well written, with red herrings and clues dotted throughout without spoiling anything. I really enjoyed how the chapters swapped between the past and present with the perspective shifting from Nora to her father.

The pacing of the story meant I was hooked from the start, and the shortening of chapters towards the end really added to the speed and climax of the reveal.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and found the author managed to create complex and thoughtful characters who appeared to go through realistic and somewhat relatable difficulties. I will definitely look to read more from this author in the future.

Didn't quite know what to expect from this book and still not sure. The storyline was quite interesting and it seemed to flow quite nicely. The characters were very well rounded but what led them on the trail of looking for someone who pushed their father off the edge is somewhat questionable.
Still enjoyed the read and will certainly be looking for any further books by this author.

Enjoyed this book, happy and sad in equal measure. Liam Noone is a wealthy man running bespoke hotels. Nora is his daughter from his first marriage and he also has twin boys from his second. The relationship between father and children is broken, he struggles with a work life balance. Liam has a bolthole called Windbreak House in California and this is where he is happiest. The question is why and this becomes very clear as the story continues. Liam is newly separated and decides to go to Windbreak House. A drama happens. Liam has an accident (or was it) and passes away. The police investigate and rule it as an accident but two of his children feel that this is not the case and feel he was pushed. He knew the perils of being on a cliff by the sea and would not have taken any chances. They begin to investigate and they open a can of worms along the way which makes the book flow. Nora feels she needs to get to the truth as her life is in turmoil and she does not feel this can be left. She is separated from her fiancé and struggling with this. Sam, one of her stepbrothers, appears on the scene and talks her into trying to uncover the truth. His life is also a mess and he feels he needs closure before he can advance. What they learn along the way is a revelation and talking to Liam’s partners etc makes them realise they have missed out on a good and true relationship with their father. Eventually the book twists and turns to a good ending and I really enjoyed reading this even though, as I have said already, it is both happy and sad. I really like Nora and Sam’s characters and found myself warming particularly to Sam as the story continued.

A good story that kept me engaged from start to finish. It’s basically a mystery but with added family and romance elements. Well rounded and I would be happy to recommend this to my book group.

I wanted to enjoy this book but didn’t. It didn’t promise what it said on the tin. It wasn’t a thriller in my opinion. I felt like too much of the book was tied up in family dynamics and less about the actual thriller part of the book. I didn’t like the way it was written but that’s personal too me. I wish I could recommend it highly but unfortunately I can’t.

Trying to explain what it is about with all of its side shoots and thoroughly well fleshed out characters would be impossible for me without leaving spoilers.
Put simply Nora's parents are long divorced but dad has always been in her life. Her mother died suddenly a year ago.
She has twin step brothers. They know each other but have never been close.
Nora's dad dies suddenly having fallen from a cliff at his favourite home. A small cottage he usually stays at alone.
Sam (one of the twins) reaches out to Nora as he is convinced their father was pushed.
What follows is sixty years worth of convoluted happenings and memories bringing the siblings to the answers to questions they had never considered and the truth about what happened on the cliff.
This is quite some read, I was nowhere near correct, having made an erroneous opinion early on and refusing to change my stance despite the clues.
In six months I wii re read this. Perhaps I will reach the correct conclusion then.
An excellent read, concentrate harder than I did.

This book had me hooked from the start as it opens with the death of Liam Noone and the two estranged siblings come together to investigate whether it was accidental or he was murdered. The beginning was intriguing enough but I felt like the story fizzled out and it was more about family relationships than a murder investigation or a thriller.

The investigation into their father's death didn't seem to be that urgent, the 'secret' that could have led to their father's death also didn't seem that interesting. The book was written beautifully I think I just expected a lot more of a thriller book rather than a book focused on family dynamics.

Estranged half-siblings Nora and Sam are not satisfied that their father Liam’s recent death was accidental and so they travel to his estate in California to do a bit of investigating of their own. Their father had been married three times, keeping each part of his life separate from the next making their investigation difficult.
The book is part murder mystery and part romance with a narrative that switches between the present day and a past timeline that tracks Liam’s relationship over the decades with someone called Cory. The storyline reveals the secrets that are kept over decades and the family dynamics which result. The resolution to the mystery is surprising but it is the journey that Nora and Sam take to find out what really happened to their father, find each other for the first time and take control of their own careers and relationships which I found enjoyable.

It was ok. Unfortunately I didn’t love it and the ending was disappointing.

It has a good storyline to begin with and I liked the characters but as it got towards the end the excitement wore off and it just ended on a disappointing note.

I also didn’t understand the chapter headings as it didn’t really link to anything in the chapter.

Her first novel was a runaway smash with a movie adaption on the way. This has then same brilliance. Hooks you in and does not let go.

This is a story about siblings trying to find out what happened to their father on the night he died. They are suspicious about foul play.
It is written in 2 time zones as the reader finds out about the father’s life.
I found it hard to engage with the characters. There is a lot of self examination which can get tedious and i found myself wishing that they would just talk about it!
The end is unsurprising- simply underlined the feelings described in the story.

Beautiful prose and a gorgeous love story. I really loved how the sibling relationship develops throughout the narrative and the dual timeline added to the mystery of her father's past and subsequently his death.
The world building was stunning and I was immersed in the storyline and didn't see the reveal coming at all.
Highly recommended
