I just realised that my review of this didn't actually publish, even though I read this ages ago. My apologies to the publisher and the author.

There were parts of this book that I really liked. The political turmoil and upheaval in trying to change a warrior society into a peaceful one, some of the characters, and the betrayals and backstabbing. However, the writing style put me off, and there were many times where I almost gave up on it. Going by the other reviews, I seem to be the only that felt this way. I hope that with the next book, I will be more into it.

The Language of Spears swept me into a world where tradition clashes with change, and duty wrestles with conscience. Set in the grandeur of the Moon Empire, the story follows Emani Malakai, a revered Askarai general, navigating the tumultuous transition from a war-fueled society to one of peace. The author skillfully weaves together themes of loyalty, honor, and the struggle for identity against the backdrop of impending conflict. I found myself engrossed in Emani's journey, torn between his allegiance to the king and his desire to protect his homeland. With its richly developed characters and immersive world-building, this book kept me eagerly turning pages until the very end. The Language of Spears is a great read for fantasy enthusiasts craving adventure and depth alike.
