I really appreciate books that nudge us to ask for help when we don't feel we can. This is a lesson that even adults can truly take to heart, and this book filled with onomatopoeia, rhyme and big feelings does just that. The illustrations are vibrant and I like that the cars are painted from different perspectives - sometimes we see the action from far away, like we are overhearing a unique moment.
When Pop calls his son to eat breakfast, Toad tells him that he can’t stop! In a flash he heads to his tow truck and takes off. On the road, big cars, little cars, old and new all have places to go. But no matter who it is or what they’re driving, everybody needs help sometimes – and Toad is happy to help. Up against all manner of accidents and mechanical failures, Toad gets the job done with a smile. But soon, even Toad needs help when his tow truck breaks down on the road. Accustomed to saving everyone else, he avoids asking for help and tries to fix his truck by himself in vain… will he ever ask for help? In this encouraging tale, even independent little toads will find that it’s OK to be humble and call for help sometimes. A very entertaining read, with quirky character names and funny illustrations that are sure to make young readers laugh!
This was an adorable book! My child enjoyed reading it and liked the tow truck in the book. Very cute!
Toad is always on the go. There are so many critters to help he can't be bothered to take a break.
Towed by Toad is such a sweet book. The text and imagery are perfect for young kids/ new readers, but the message transcends age. Self-care. Recognizing when you need help, and asking for it. Even helpers need help sometimes, and that's okay.
I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations were adorable, and the story was delightful. This is a book I would recommend to all parents and caregivers.
Towed by Toad has it all. A cute story, great illustrations, lots of cars and trucks, great kid humor, and a toad. This is a good lap sit book or read aloud. The older children can even read along. My little ones like to make up their own stories based on the pictures that are silly.
The basic premise is that Toad drives a tow truck and helps the drivers who run into all manner of problems. In the end we find that occasionally, even the helper will sometimes need help. This book is a good discussion starter for preschoolers. BTW – I actually laughed out loud a few times.
Author Jashar Awan has given us a winner.
Thanks to Tundra Books for a digital copy for my review. All opinions are my own.
What an adorable book with a great message. Even the helpers sometimes need help! Parents and children alike will benefit from this message. Plus this book has darling illustrations, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and a cast of cute animal characters.
My only dislike is I wish this was going to be a board book! My son loved reading this with me, but he is one, so a board book would be a much better format for him.
Towed by Toad is a cute picture book about helping others and asking for help. The illustrations are bright and fun. There’s no more than a sentence on each page, making this a great storytime or read aloud book for toddlers. I know this will be a hit for kids who love reading about vehicles!
We love Jashar Awan books & this one is no exception! The lyrical message that everyone needs help paired with the bright illustrations make this picture book a must-read! Toad is a truck driver & it is his job to help drivers who may need assistance. But what happens when Toad & his truck are the ones that need the help? This one is sure to be a perfect read-aloud!!
This was such a fun and cute read! It went over very well while testing it on my toddler, who eagerly asked for it more than once. Loved the illustration of this book aswell, would definitely recommend.
Toad is a helper, and a good helper at that… but sometimes even the helpers need to rely on others for help. This book gives Litte blue truck vibes, and the illustrations were a big hit with my toddler and we loved the message!
The switch from not rhyming to rhyming back out of rhyming made me double back, thinking I was missing something, but the book flows well and we read it multiple times!
Thank you to netgalley and Penguin House Random Canada for the eARC!
This book was absolutely adorable! I love the alliteration in the names given to each character. Such an important message that it’s okay to ask for help, even if you’re well versed in what you’re doing. Can’t wait to purchase this title!
"Everyone needs help sometimes. Even the helpers." I love this message. As a parent, I need to be reminded of this too!
I really enjoyed this book and I think it would be perfect for 2-5 year olds. I know my boys (3 & 6) would love it. The pictures are simple but fun and add to the story. This is the kind of fun book with a good message that I love adding to my home library.
In this picture book, Toad works hard as a tow truck driver, but after his vehicle breaks down, he has to accept that he needs help, too. The illustrations are cute and full of energy, and this will especially appeal to kids who love transportation vehicles. I appreciate how the story conveys a message, teaching that even the helpers need help sometimes. This is a great book for families to enjoy together, and it will work well as a group read-aloud in classroom and library settings.
This book also made me think of one of my favorite books from childhood, "How Many Trucks Can a Tow Truck Tow?" by Charlotte Pomerantz.
Simple, but cute. Nice message about how we all need help. The rhyming sentences and all the animals make it a fun read. Perfect to read to toddlers because there are not very many words.

Cute book! I thought the illustrations were done well and worked nicely with the overall theme. The only thing I will say about the drawings is there seemed to be some things in the pictures (i.e. people on cell phones after a crash) that kids wouldn't relate to or appreciate. This isn't necessarily a problem, and it gives something for the adults reading along to observe, it was just something I noticed.
Lastly, although it wasn't super in-your-face, I did appreciate the subtle moral of the story, and it was plainly spelled out for the readers, which was great. The moral was also important: everyone needs help sometimes, and everyone can - and should - ask for help when they need it. The ending was heartwarming as well, because Toad then realizes he doesn't need to be burning himself out helping others and he can take time for himself and his family sometimes, too.
Everybody needs help sometimes! Toad has an important job because someone always needs his help. He helps one person after another after another, until, in the end, he needs help too! This is a really cute book with bright illustrations. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this adorable picture book
I received an ARC of this children's book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is an adorable book. The pictures are really cute and so is the story!
Toad loves to help. He’s a tow truck driver. Toad is so busy, he doesn’t stop. That is until he tow truck breaks down. He tries to fix it, but no luck. Then he realizes everyone needs help sometimes, even him. He calls his dad to help. Dad brings the big truck and tows him home.
What great book with a great message. I know some transportation lovers, that are going to love this book. Great transportation book for preschoolers. Just the right length and a great message on top of it!
My car loving 3 year old read this book 4 times in a row! It's a very cute story showing that everyone needs help sometime, and it's always okay. It does this while showing adorable pictures of all different types of animals driving different colors and types of cars.
This book will be one that's often reread in our house, and I highly recommend!
Such a fun cute read! Follows the character Toad who is a car mechanic/tower who helps others with their car. The story teaches that it’s okay to ask for help . I found this book to be kid funny especially at the end. The beginning reminds me of little bit like like a dr. Seuss books. Pictures are great - Not overwhelming but not too little imagery. Quick read too, so I would recommend for toddlers/young kids to read. Plan on buying myself to have a physical copy to reread again. Thank you for the arc Netgalley!
