Whalesong is a true story about two orcas, two boys, and two Pauls. One Paul plays the flute, while the other conducts research on orcas and music. The story touches on themes such as grief, conservation, and captivity, and is filled with brightly colored illustrations. Additionally, there is some great backmatter about the orcas included. Personally, I had hoped that the issue of orca captivity would be a more prominent aspect underlying the story.

Cute and informative! A great read aloud for music teachers about the power and importance of music.

I love the artstyle of the illustrations in this book and I think that they match really well with the story. I think that this true story falls on the sadder side of children's books (dealing with themes of animals and grief). However, for children who are ready to deal with those themes in a book and who love animals, I think that this would be a good match. I was not familiar with either Paul before starting this book and I thought it was very interesting to learn about them and the whales.

I love finding new biographies for children, so was very excited to find this one. I was not familiar with either Paul, so it was nice to learn about them.

This might be a bit sad for children who are more sensitive, so it might be a good idea to read it first before reading it with young children.

The art style was very unique and I thought it worked well with the book.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. In this true story, two whales are kidnapped from their ocean home to learn more about their species. They discover that the whales like music and a man plays the flute. When one dies, the other stops eating, but the man with the flute saves him by paying for it. It's a cute story, but I hate glorifying the horrible things they did by taking the animals out of their natural habitat.

My son loves orcas | killer whales and is always interested in reading and better understanding things about the species. The illustrations were wonderful and a good read.

I really wanted to love this book because it seems like a title that I would love.
Even though I love the actually story behind this, I felt like the text could have flowed a little easier. All the talk about the 2 "Pauls" was confusing at first.
Illustrations were beautiful!

Absolutely precious. I had no idea about Paul Horn and his music. It was a very touching story with lovely artwork and a message. Fantastic!

Thank you to NetGalley and Tundra Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
