Norway by Claudia Martin is an exquisite introduction to the country, moving beyond the clichés of Vikings and fjords to reveal the real Norway. The stunning photography vibrantly captures the majestic landscapes, including the vibrant sunsets reminiscent of Edvard Munch's The Scream, painted during his stay at Oslofjord.
While showcasing the archipelago, mountains, and cliffs, the book also dives into Norway's communities, tourism, innovation, history, and art. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the architecture and the unique details, like colorful mailboxes dotting the islands. This book has firmly placed Norway on my bucket list!
Thank you to NetGalley, Amber Books Ltd, and Claudia Martin for this beautiful ARC. My review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
A travel book full of information about Norway. Day trips, trips that last a week. Trips to different parts of Norway with different sites waiting to be encountered. This book will be on my kindle when my wife and I make it to Norway.
Breathtakingly beautiful! Wow! I have visited Oslo, many years ago and have heard lots about the Fjords, but I really underestimated the utter beauty of Norway, not only the draw-dropping fjords, but around the whole country.
The words and photography in the book are sublime and I will definitely be bumping Norway higher up my list of places to visit.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Claudia Martin and Amber for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Norway: Land of Mountains and Fjords is a well written and beautifully photographed pictorial tour of Norway by Claudia Martin. Originally released in 2020, this reformat and re-release by Amber Books out 14th April is 224 pages and is available in hardcover format. An earlier edition of the book was published in flexi-bound format. This is book 15 of the Visual Explorer Guide series.
Norway is full of awe inspiring "pinch me" scenery and this book highlights the vast expanses of mountainous terrain, glaciers, fjords, wilderness, and urban areas beautifully contrasting austere ice-fields, charming small fishing villages, and big city night life side by side.
Five stars. This would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use/display, or gift giving.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Norway by Claudia Martin is an educational and visually experience. I have always wanted to travel there as that is my ancestral roots but have never had the opportunity. I appreciate the small descriptions for each of the pictures provided. And the pictures are perfect to provide an overall experience of what being there might be like. Vivid, colorful, and clear photography make it an enjoyable book to look through. Perfect for those who enjoy travel, photography, and learning about other countries.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
This is the most gorgeous book. Having been to Norway in 2018 it brought back lovely memories and inspired me to visit again to see so many other things that I haven't seen yet.
The photographs are all amazing - well shot and a good variety of subjects from landscapes, astounding scenery to food, building interiors, wildlife, etc. I found Norway to be an exceptional country with crystal clear and clean air, good quality food, well built and maintained roads, tunnels, bridges and ferries. This book captures all elements of Norwegian everyday life and their culture.
With thanks to NetGalley and Amber Books for a free pdf copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to see the full resolution version in print and be able to spend many a happy hours browsing the photos and learning more about Norway.
Spectacular! Norway is informative, has stunning photography, and is a must for every Nordic-loving traveller - armchair or otherwise.
4 Stars.
This book is truly gorgeous. I had looked into going to Norway a few years ago but ended up going to Finland instead. While I knew Norway was beautiful, this book taught me a lot about it. I had no idea that it was comprised of more than 55,000 islands. Even more, when I had been thinking of going, it was primarily to see the Northern Lights. Thanks to this book, the chapter on Oslo made me really want to visit the city. There is such a fascinating mix of classic Gothic architecture and really fascinating (dark) art. Did you know that the word ski comes from an Old Norse word? I didn’t but I do now!
I went to Norway with my parents many years ago and absolutely loved it. We were on a tour, though, so it was all rather a rush! This book brought it back to life for me, and included lots of information that I didn’t know. It features stunning photos of Norway’s beautiful fjords, mountains and wildlife. I also liked the images of the brightly coloured buildings in the small towns and villages, the unusual stave churches, Grieg’s beautiful historic house and the interesting new architecture in Oslo.
I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this. Norway has so much more variety than I imagined! This book is packed full of stunning photos of this fantastic country, with its emphasis on nature and beauty. I have visited Oslo only, and it really is such a beautiful country.
This book is full of colorful and stunning photos of Norway coupled with detailed, informative captions. "Norway" does a fantastic job of capturing the broad range of culture and nature. This book would be best viewed in physical form. It would make an excellent gift or addition to your own collection.
A beautiful collection of images of Norway. Sadly I only saw this on my computer, and a physical book would of course be a better choice. Still though, well worth the relaxing views of a gorgeous country. A bit biased since my dad's family came from there, but still a place I want to visit and see someday. would be a lovely book for a collection, and would recommend.
This is a lovely book about Norway, with many stunning picture. It really makes you want to visit that beautiful country,
Norway by Claudia Martin is the perfect introduction to what is effectively, the real Norway, beyond Viking Hordes and Fjords (although the landscape and archipegalo does feature highly and there is one Viking ship)
The photography within these pages is absolutely stunning, vibrant and captures the majestic beauty of the landscape. Interesting fact, is that Edvard Munch painted the Scream while staying at Oslofjord (a popular holiday destination) and throughout the book, the sunsets reflect the bright colours of the painting, especially that of the sky and trees in the section about the Monolith, Vigeland Installation.
Whilst the book explores the archipegalo, the mountains, cliffs and fjords, it also explores the communities within, the tourist industry, innovation, history and art. Against an immense backdrop of stone and snow, are bright flashes of colour, even beautiful spring and autumn colours, and flowers that bloom in the ice (The Glacier Crowfoot) and the natural fauna of the region
I was mesmerised throughout this book, so much so that I didn't take notes, I was that absorbed. I never knew that Norway had Polar Bears for example (?) There is such beauty in the architecture nad communities, even down to individual mailboxes on the islands and to say that this book has put Norway firmly on my bucket list is an understatement. I wanted to visit before, but now I really want to go!
Thank you very much to Netgalley, Amber Books Ltd and Claudia Martin for this utterly gorgeous ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
First of all, Thank You, Netgalley for the ARC granted. I really really appreciate books that can shows Us a little more about other cultures around the world, and this one has made an incredible job on showing Norwegian beautiful places and useful infos. Well done!
When I think of Norway, I think of stunningly beautiful scenery, interesting wildlife, glaciers, fjords, and Northern Lights. Maybe a Viking museum. This book is packed with gorgeous photographs. Most are of natural beauty. There are also photos of interesting architecture, everyday life, and artworks.
The book itself is a work of art. This is not a travel guide at all, although there are brief descriptions providing details of the photographs. This is the type of book that I enjoy perusing and dreaming of an upcoming trip, a souvenir of a completed journey, or perhaps just to enjoy the beauty of Norway.
Norway has a larger number of different habitats than almost any other European country. It has Scandinavia’s most spectacular fjords, steep mountains, pretty fishing villages, beautiful beaches – and continental Europe’s largest glacier. From remote settlements within the Arctic Circle to Oslo’s lively city life, from the northern lights to white nights when the sun never sets, from sculpture gardens to immense bridges linking the country’s many islands, Norway is a fascinating exploration of this increasingly popular tourist destination.
This book is an absolutely stunning collection of pictures, and the stories behind them, of arguably one of the most beautiful countries on earth. I'll be honest, when I look at or buy books like this, it's for the pictures. 😂 These are truly magnificent and awe-inspiring. If you love photography books that showcase natural beauty, you won't be disappointed here. Excellent tome! ❤️

I've not yet visited Norway, but my son in law if first generation US, and he and my daughter went this summer. The photos were lovely, and they enjoyed all their time. These photos brought the country to life for me. I also loved the bits of information. I plan to purchase a hard copy for our whole family to enjoy.

Scandinavian compound words will be the death of me. Worry not, this book is very picture heavy. While I loved Sweden, and probably identify as a Dane, Norway looks the most picturesque and beautiful. To be fair, all of the Nordic countries have beautiful vistas, but looking at these fjords makes me want to book a trip. See you for the Northern Lights. Skål!
