Well written with plenty of twists and turns. This had me hooked from the start. The characters could have had a bit more depth but they were still given some semblance of dimensions and humanity. The writing style is easy to read and the plot was constantly moving forward. It gave me everything I'd want from a thriller
This was an intense, fast past thriller with lots of twists and turns. There was a surprising twist at the very end, so don't stop reading after the case is solved! Curious to see where this series will go after the first book =)
Leigh Brody works for the FBI when a body is found in her hometown, marked with her name. More chilling, a calling card is left that ties this body to the body of her brother, 12 years old when he was found by Leigh twenty years ago. Do they have the wrong man behind bars? Leigh thinks so, since her father is the one serving time for the crime. Or is it a copycat?
I was unable to put this one down and read it in one straight shot on my 4 hour flight.
I can’t wait for future Leigh Brody mysteries
Thank you Storm Publishing for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my candid review. It was a pleasure reading
* OUT NOW *
"The Girl Who Survived" by Nichole Severn is a solid thriller that manages to keep the reader engaged. The story follows Evelyn, the sole survivor of a brutal attack, as she navigates a complex web of lies and danger while trying to uncover the truth. Severn's writing is adequately paced, and the plot has enough suspense to maintain interest. Evelyn's journey of resilience is compelling, although the narrative occasionally felt predictable, with some twists being telegraphed in advance.
The characters, while serviceable, could have benefited from more depth and complexity, which would have added to the emotional impact of the story. Despite these shortcomings, the book provides a decent level of tension and intrigue. I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book, which was an interesting, if not particularly groundbreaking, read.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review
Leigh Brody is called back to her home town to help solve some serial killer murders. Leigh now works for the FBI in special operations dealing with serial killer patterns of operations . Leigh left town when she was 17 after her brother was murdered and her father was in jail for the murder. Leigh has always stated her father was innocent. Now the murders have started again and people are going missing and ending up dead in a copy cat version of Leigh’s brothers murder. Leigh is called back to town to help solve the gruesome murders. Has the real murderer re surfaced and was Leigh’s farther innocent all along. Leigh is not welcome back to the town and is subjected to horrific verbal and physical abuse from the townspeople because she is blamed by the town for their downturn since the original murders.
Leigh is a tortured soul with a focus to solve these horrific murders and absolve her father of her brothers murder after all these years he’s been in jail.
A well written story with plenty of twists 4 stars

I really procrastinated with reading this book and somewhat struggled to fully become invested in it. Once all the twists started happening I really started to enjoy it. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Leigh’s story!
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review, I must say I was really into this book! The twists and turns really had me on the edge of my seat, and for the first book in the series, I cannot wait to read the next books! This was my first time reading anything from Nichole Severn, and it will not be my last.

This book is gripping thrilling. It's got it all.
From that first page, it's a thriller. That holds your attention like wow.
There are so many twists so many turns at one point I thought I knew who the killer was but I wasn't correct. This author kept me guessing to the end. Wow.
Wow such a good book.
So well written, that you will not want to put it down.
I read this book in three sittings.
310 pages. What a fabulous book.
Leigh,
Is returning to her hometown more murders.
Much like the ones That happened in her town when she grew up at seventeen.

The Girl Who Survived by Nichole Severn
Leigh Brody FBI Mystery Book 1
I had high hopes for this book having read and enjoyed a previous book by this author. The prologue sets the scene of killer dumping the body of a tortured very dead woman just before snowfall. The first chapter introduces Leigh Brody who will be the lead character of this series. I found it strange that she would be called in as an “expert” even though there would definitely be conflict of interest. I read the first five chapters and didn’t warm up to Leigh and couldn’t believe that the town would treat her the way they did even if her father was convicted of killing two boys. So, I do what I usually do when in such situations, I read the last few chapters and then a bit from the middle. My decision was to NOT read the entire book word for word even knowing that it is a book that many rated highly. I will say that there are some red herrings, some contemptible characters, the person in charge of the case had an annoying way of calling the lead dropped the “g” when addressing Leigh as Agen’ Brody, the trauma that some managed to survive seemed more appropriate for a superhero, the twist at the end left me feeling betrayed while also not helping me really warm up to Leigh. I do believe that for some this will be a great story while for others it may be a miss, as it was for me.
Did I enjoy this book? Not really
Would I read more in this series? No
Would I read another book by this author? Maybe
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm for the ARC – This is my honest review.
2-3 Stars
Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for an early digital ARC copy of The Girl Who Survived by Nichole Severn. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I will definitely be checking out more. I cannot wait until the second book comes out in this series. The girl who survived is the first book in the FBI mystery series featuring Leigh Brody, a FBI behavioral analyst . She is forced to return to her hometown because of a copycat murder that is linked to her past in which her dad was accused of murdering, her brother and another boy, now the killings have begun again with eerie similarities. I found this book to be fast paced and intense and I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to readers. The end of the book definitely had some twist I did not see coming.
This is a great start to a Suspense Thriller series. From the beginning until the end it keeps you wanting to know what is going to happen next, who is guilty, etc. It has some surprising and shocking moments up until the end of the book too. FBI Agent Leigh Brody moved away from her hometown in Lebanon New Hampshire when her brother Troy and his Best friend Derrick Garrison were murdered. Now 20 years later she is called in to help investigate some new murders that have just been committed in her hometown again. Her father was found guilty of murdering her brother and his friend but Leigh has always known he didn’t kill them. Leigh hopes that going back to her hometown while helping investigate the new murder cases that she can prove her Dad is innocent and free him from prison. This is the first book of the Leigh Brody series. I am looking forward to continuing this series when the next book comes out! Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for giving me a ARC of this book to read and review.
Thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC. This is my honest opinion and review.
Okay, this one was good. Agent Brody has a troubled past. Her brother and his best friend were horrifically murdered as young teenagers. Her dad was sent to prison for it, but she fought everyday to prove her father was innocent of the hideous crimes. Now she is working with the FBI, the killer is back- or is he? Two adult bodies have shown up similar MO, just as horrific. Can Agent Brody and the local PD help catch this killer?
This one had me hooked. The twists and turns were truly well done. I had an idea that the killer was someone working the case, but I had the wrong person picked out.. and then the twist reveal at the very end had me realize how wrong I was about that person! I really enjoyed how the author was able to do a good job of keeping Chandler's real identity a secret until the very end. He is in it just enough that it makes you think there is going to be something special about him, but not enough to get your suspicions too high. This was a satisfying thriller, and I am very much looking forward to the next 2 novels with Agent Brody.
5/5 stars- well done.
Terrific read! I couldn’t put it down. I was immediately engaged with the constant suspense throughout the book. Highly recommend!
I love Nichole Severn's writing style. It keeps you turning the pages with characters that are realistic and believable. This is a well written thriller that introduces a strong female lead who doesn't back down from anyone. I thought I had guessed who the killer was, but I was shocked as the truth came out. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
FBI staffer, Leigh Brody's past resurfaces in the creepiest of ways. After a body is found marked with her name, she's called back to her small home town. Traumatic memories resurface - including those where she found her little brother murdered and her father going to prison for it. She never believed her father was guilty and that's plagued her for years. It was enthralling to "join" Leigh on her quest for answers about the crimes, past and present.
Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Nichole Severn for the eARC.
Wow! This is a super-twisted police procedural with interesting plotting and lots of red herrings and surprises along the way. I had one twist figured out but the rest were a great surprise. Told from the perspective of FBI Criminologist Leigh Brody, this story pulls you in fast. Leigh is returning to the hometown she fled after her father was convicted of murder, and a dead body is found with similarities to the murders her father was convicted of. The residents mostly resent her presence after her years of trying to prove her father's innocence stained the town's image. Combine that hate with another internal conflict within the detective's personal life, and the suspense is ratcheted off the charts. I highly recommend this one for fans of crime and psychological thrillers.
This book was a true gift to suspense readers. I really loved FBI agent Brody, and can’t wait to read about her next case.
The Girl Who Survived by Nichole Severn is by far, onee of the best books I have read this year so far! With all the action and plot twists jam packed into this story, the reader will definitely be unable to put this book down, even for a couple of minutes, for fear of missing even one little detail, same as one would in a 1990's television show. The details described in this book are so vivid, the characters so full of life, the readers are practically living inside the book, and going along for an actual ride as the story takes place. Book two, The Vanishing Wife, can't come out soon enough!
It has been two decades since Leigh stumbled upon her twelve-year-old brother Troy's lifeless body, a haunting discovery that led to her father's arrest for the crime. Despite the legal outcome, Leigh never truly believed her father was guilty. Her relentless pursuit of the truth nearly cost her everything...
Now employed by the FBI, Leigh is summoned back to New Hampshire when a string of copycat crimes unfolds. The perpetrator leaves behind a chilling signature: a plastic army figurine, identical to the one found with Troy's body, bearing a sinister inscription—Leigh's name.
This investigation cuts deeper than any Leigh has encountered before, plunging her into a relentless pursuit of justice. Determined to hold the right individual accountable this time, Leigh confronts her own past as she races to decipher overlooked clues and prevent another tragedy. But as another child vanishes, Leigh must confront her darkest memories to unmask the predator and ensure justice prevails.
Prepare for a gripping crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, complete with an unexpected twist that will leave you reeling. A must-read for fans of Rachel Caine, Lisa Regan, and A.J. Rivers, this book promises an exhilarating ride you won't soon forget.
I have been on a bit of a thriller/murder mystery kick lately and this book scratched that itch! It was dark and grity while being so entertaining. I was hooked from the start and loved that I couldn't quite tell where the book was heading. The thing I hate most is a predictable thriller and this was not that! I loved Leigh and her journey, it was a great read.
