Celebrate empathy, connection, and togetherness with this touching follow-up to the best-selling interactive book “Everybody Counts.” Kristin Roskifte’s Everybody Travels is a captivating picture book that combines stunning illustrations with a simple yet profound narrative, making it a delightful read for both children and adults. The book’s premise is deceptively straightforward: It follows various characters on their travels, whether they’re commuting to work, visiting family, or exploring new places. However, beneath this simplicity lies a rich tapestry of interconnected lives and journeys that subtly explores themes of diversity, connection, and the shared human experience.

Every day, you find yourself traveling to the supermarket, park, or seaside; but it’s not only you—everybody travels all the same time. This is a book full of heartwarming stories, big and small, about the shared human experience of traveling. It serves as a beautiful reminder that we are all ultimately on this journey together.

Each person in this book is on their own, personal quest, whether it’s within the pages of a storybook or quite literally boarding a plane to meet a long-lost relative at a family reunion. Read the clues on each page about where that person is going and why. Try to decipher their funny, sometimes tragic, bizarre, and ultimately human story as they journey through life—sometimes just beginning and other times nearing the very end.

Roskifte’s artwork is the book’s standout feature. Each page is a visual feast, filled with intricate details that invite readers to linger and explore. The vibrant, busy scenes are not just background; they tell their own stories and offer a multitude of perspectives, encouraging readers to consider the many different lives and experiences that intersect in the act of traveling. Her visual storytelling is complemented by sparse, thoughtful text that leaves ample space for imagination and interpretation.

Everybody Travels excels in its ability to convey complex ideas through accessible means. It encourages young readers to think about the world beyond their immediate surroundings and fosters empathy by highlighting the diversity of human experiences. Adults will appreciate the book’s depth and the way it gently prompts reflections on the universality of travel and connection.

This book employs a very unique concept. Based on the cover, I thought we would read about people traveling to different locations. While that applies, it's also a counting book that tries to inspire readers to imagine what they might do. The illustrations are stunning. I think this text would be too complex for preschoolers, but has a lot of potential to inspire early elementary students to learn about places in their community and geographical locations around the world.

An enchanting book about travelling, physically and mentally. I so enjoyed this nook with my little one, although I think she would be more interested if she was a bit older. Every page narrates a small fact about the people on the page, some are physically travelling, others mentally and others are simply in different journeys of life stages. Also, the last pages with questions/answers and searching cues are really intelligent.

I totally recommend it for kids 5-15 years old. Is an amazing tool to explain how everyone goes on with their day and their life but at the same time coexists with other people that going on with their lives as well and face different challenges in the same space and time.

Stretch your imagination!
The book begins with one person and progresses to a whole planet full. The renderings of background of each is line drawings of green on white with the people in full color. The situations support the numbers of people as they grow and grow. Absolutely wonderful!
The illustrations by the author are fun, simple, brilliantly diverse, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age (6-106) including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school, church library, or your local public library (or Norwegian grandkid)! If getting as eBook, be sure to get Adobe Digital Editions on laptop for absolutely best effect.
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Wide Eyed Editions via NetGalley. Thank you! Expected publication 04 Jun 2024

This is an original concept and a hard book to review. The cover makes it look like people are going places but instead you get people at the same place but thinking about different things. For example when a group goes scuba diving, one enjoys feeling weightless, another feels bad for those that will never have this experience, another wants to find treasure and another wants to clear beaches of trash. The numbers increase until it represents all the people on the planet. I like the idea that everyone is on their own journey but I’m not sure how much younger readers will understand that message. Also at the end it becomes a search and find where you are challenged to go back and find certain drawings of people. That is a hard thing to do for a book that is geared for ages 4-8. I would think that older elementary school children may understand the concepts better. Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group-Wide Eyed Editions for the temporary ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

I loved reading this, it shows that so much is going on in our lives, positive and negative and how we are all on our own journey.

3/5 stars

An illustrated guide for us all to help remember that everyone has their own thing going on, whether you can see it or not.

Bonus: you could use this as a coloring book since the illustrations are mainly outlined and only partially colored in already.

This was such an interesting book, I loved its message of empathy and it was executed in an inventive way based on numbers of people. Illustrations are really unique and eye catching. Overall a great concept with an important message that is relayed powerfully.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This was a cute book and I loved the message about empathy and that everyone is going through something different. The sections at the end offered great ways for children to engage with the content even more. You could pick a few different questions each time you read the book. I thought the font was too small and difficult to read for a childrens book. I found myself straining to read. I think it should be larger and in a color that blends in less.

A really heartwarming, insightful book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I liked the questions at the back that would really help a child engage with the story.

Thank you for allowing me to read this - I will be recomminding it!

This book was a spectacular experience. As it starts, it begins with only one person that then grows to all the people on the planet. This progression is a brilliant metaphor used to unite everyone not only on the page but in reality. Because everyone is connected. And the beauty of the pages was highlighted by all the details drawn and given, leading readers to search for little clues and what each person is doing. Because at any given time there is happiness and sadness and mystery and love happening to everyone around the world. And I think that’s beautiful.

I loved the first book in this series, Everybody Counts and so was desperate to read this one. It's brilliant. I love everything about these books and am amazed at how much can be going on at the same time. The planning it must take to create a book like this, where everything means and does something, is phenomenal. There is just so much to do and see and think about. I bought the first book and will definitely be buying this one too and I am sure it will be just as popular.

The artwork was interesting to look at and enjoyable but the text was not my favorite. It was hard to follow why the numbers jumped in the order they did and what the relationship was from one page to the next.

Book that shows diversity I'm many different ways. Loved how the people stand out the most on the illustrations. Perfect book gift for a preschooler and their parents as they can talk about each page. Just wish the text was bigger

Such a charming and unique book! The illustrations were wonderfully detailed. I appreciated that this was far more than just a counting book and showed how interconnected our lives can be. The “Secrets and Answers” section at the back was such a treat and encourages you to revisit the story and dive deeper into the illustrations. It feels like there'll be something new to discover with every read!

This was a cute book - I loved that there were so many activities and Easter eggs in the "Secrets and Answers" section towards the end. I can see this being a fun book to bring along on a long car ride or on a plane to keep younger travelers entertained, as there is plenty to do aside from the first read-through. Thank you, NetGalley, for the advanced reader copy!

Here is a wonderful, empathic, gorgeously colorful counting book. It can be used as exactly that but this is also a title that invites discussion as kids and their adults read the text and think about the people in the pages. This book gives a sense of how interlinked we are.

Note too that the end of the book offers questions and activities. All in all, a really nice book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

This is a grewt book to use with children to discuss similaritiies and differences between different people, families, locations etc and I enjoyed reading the text and spotting the people it was talking about in the illustrations.
I alao think there can be a lot of discussion and maybe even story stimulus for some of the people where it says "one person is worrying about" or "one person is thinking about"
Loved the diversity of characters, locations and interests too

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book for free in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.

I absolutely loved this book because it teaches children about different places and cultures. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to travel outside of the USA, but its on my bucket list. I can see this being a hit with children who love adventures. It was a very charming and fun read!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed the illustrations and the overall message but I found the font too small - especially for a kids book

Otherwise an enjoyable read
