Summary:

Sota Matsubayashi is new to this school, but he already has a reputation, thanks to his school. Now, he’s the class troublemaker, even if he acts like a prince. To put it lightly, this makes it hard to get to know people.

Meanwhile, Sakura Miyazen is the princess of the school. It was decided when everyone discovered she was rich and lived in the modern castle equivalent. She could have anything she wanted, in theory. But all she wants is to get to know Sota…and she’s too awkward and shy to make it easy.

Review:

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You 1 is a classic high school romance in many ways. We have two oblivious main characters who desperately want to chat - but can’t quite make it work. Sound familiar? We’ve all probably been there.

There are several fun and familiar tropes in this manga, starting with the bad boy stereotype (where he actually isn’t bad; he just looks that way) and the little princess archetype (who’s actually a sweet nerd).

If you’re looking for a slow-burn romance with a slice-of-life storytelling style, Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You is absolutely worth checking out. The first volume doesn’t delve that deep, but I can see its potential going forward.

Highlights:
Slice-of-Life Romance
Contemporary Romance
Comedy & Sweet

Will I continue the series? Maybe

Cute and short read, I read it in one sitting and it was really fun. I definitely will be reading the rest of the series, I really enjoyed it.

Well, I finished reading this and immediately checked out the other 3 volumes from Libby. This was just…sugar-sweet!

Good girl Sakura Miyazen and (supposdely) bad boy Soto Matsubayashi are mutually crushing on each-other, and both are SO BAD at making a connection. Each chapter is only a few pages, but they all manage a hilarious setup and payoff, making me root for the two dorks as they try to flirt and fail so, so hard.

But there is progress in this book, and, looking at the blurb for the last book in the series, I’m glad to report that progress continues! See, now I’m INVESTED. I want to see how these kids fumble and flail and eventually make it.

This is a perfect fit for when you just need to feel good and not work too hard to do it. There’s no angst. No sweeping romance. No high stakes. Just young adults being so, so bad at communication, but in a way that hurts no one. Not even themselves.

An overall very quick, easy to follow, and drama-free read! I really enjoy short form manga like this one, especially ones of the slowwwwwww burn romance variety that blends in some "slice of life." And this one is definitely a slower one as Miyazen & Matsubayashi get to know each other better over the course of their day-to-day school lives! Overall, I thought their little misunderstandings and small gestures towards each other were really endearing. I can't wait to see where this one leads (thought I'm sure I can guess where a little) but it'll be fun to see how long the journey is to get there! Excited to get in Volume 2 to keep reading! ☺️

I enjoyed this. It had the typical rom-com type of misunderstandings. Miyazen and Matsubayashi keep having misunderstandings but in the core of everything just want to get to know each other better. I don’t know if I will continue this story because it was a little boring for me because I’ve seen this happen before with characters I care more about. I think the build of getting to know the characters wasn’t as there for me as it has been in other manga. I do think If given the chance to read future books I would give them a try that way the story can develop more, and I can get to know them better. I do think the story is cute which is why I am giving it a 3 out of 5.

This is cute, funny and heartwarming because the guy likes the girl and the girl likes the guy but they can’t seem to find their way through the barriers.

She is a ‘princess’ and he is a boy from the wrong side of the tracks. They like each other but they are two embarrassed to say and so they muddle through and as they muddle they get closer.

The artwork is good and the story is entertaining and lighthearted. Very entertaining and a good read.

Why is none talking about this???? This is such a fun, cute and overwhelmingly adorable manga, and I would especially recommend it to anyone wanting to read something lighthearted and sweet if they had a bad day.
Characters are adorably clumsy and there are many comedic miscommunications that happen, but not in a bad way.
The art is easy on the eye and overall it's a very fast read.
I'll definitely be picking up all the released volumes!

I thought that this was a super cute and quick story. It was so adorable that I decided to go ahead and buy the rest of the books in this series because I found the characters to be so adorable and I just love coming across a manga that is able to give me all of the feels so I’m excited to see where this little love story will go.

One thing about me - I love shenanigans! I love stories where the plot doesn't take itself too seriously. I can blush, giggle, and kick my feet while reading and walk away feeling light and full of hope. Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Close to You was one of those stories for me and while it's not topping any of my favorite lists any time soon, it was a joy start to finish.

In Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Close to You, Sota Matsubayashi seems like a delinquent, bad boy type. Little do his peers know, underneath the surface he is a softie trying to make an impression on his crush Sakura Miyazen. Sakura Miyazen also isn't what her classmates think - she is more than just a "nice girl." She's a cutie pie trying to get closer to Sota by watching mobster films to impress him. These two bumbling fools flair at interacting with each other. They are both too self-conscious in their attempts to impress each other to notice the other's feelings.

Each chapter of Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Close to You covers a different attempt of the two trying to get closer. By the end of the volume, it seems they are making progress. (Even if that progress only moved them forward a tiny inch.) Even though it was only the first volume, it seems to me that this story will be a slow burn. We will enjoy the journey of the two leads building a relationship.

I appreciated the light-hearted and comedic approach to both characters trying to impress each other. The misunderstanding is silly but does not feel overdone or tired. I enjoy Sota and Miyazen thinking that the other one is "out of their league." Despite that, they still put an effort! I think they are so cute and I look forward to seeing what other shenanigans they get into.

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You (Volume 1) by Akitaka is a manga style graphic novel. Two high school classmates, Sakura Miyazen and Sota Matsubayashi, are polar opposites: Miyazen is a prim and proper young lady, while Matsubayashi is a brusque former troublemaker. They’re secretly dying to talk to each other, but their backgrounds are so different, they can’t seem to strike up a conversation! And why does a simple greeting make the both of them turn red?!

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You is a sweet opposites attract story. I loved that we get the points of view from both our main characters- and they are both so earnest and self doubting. I felt like the inner dialogue was very realistic, especially for the high school age group. Doesn't everyone overthink how the people they want to get closer to take the things they say and do and then get so lost in those thoughts that they miss other things going on arounds them? No, just me? I thought this was a cute story- and I look forward to following the story as it continues.

This was adorable! I love a good opposites attract story, and being that this was set in high school, it was just so awkward and sweet that I smiled like a goof pretty much the entire time I was reading. I wouldn't say that the artwork was anything fantastic, but I loved the budding relationship between Miyazen and Matsubayashi enough to look past that. This was a little more slice-of-life than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it enough that I currently have the remaining volumes checked out on Libby to dive into next. Nothing earth-shattering, by any means, but this would be a perfect read if you want something that will just make you smile!

A full series of this might get too saccharine, but this volume was too sweet and cute for words. The mismatched but equally nice pair was a lot of fun to read. And the blushes/page ratio was hilariously high.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the e-book copy!

Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You is a comedy about two high schoolers who want to be closer to each other but struggle to find a connection. I enjoyed reading this and felt the relationship progression was realistic and endearing. I am interested in reading the rest of the series and seeing if the main couple gets together. If you like series like "Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun", then this series will pique your interest.

I want to thank NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with a copy of this manga. At first, I thought it a romance between 2 females. The guy in the cover was giving tomboy vibe.

The story follows two couple trying to get close to each other. Upon reading this, I reminisce my high school crushes and puppy love.

This was just adorable and felt like a warm hug reading as it's very wholesome and pure.

The only thing that bothered me was some chapters stated bonus chapters. Not too sure if it's necessary.

Overall, I found this manga to be enjoyable, and I would love to explore their friendship and hopefully, romance more.

tl;dr
A warm high school romance with low stakes and endearing leads.

Thoughts
Do you love a cute story about blushing leads and mutual pining with just a dash of misunderstanding? Miss Miyazen has got you covered! On the surface, Sakura and Sota would appear to have nothing in common. She's "proper," and he's a "troublemaker." But the truth is they're both just a couple of sweet kids trying to get to know each other. It's an incredibly charming and low drama romance. There's little plot to be seen so far, with the story being largely a set of vignettes about their ongoing attempts (and failures) at trying to get closer. Misunderstandings are in the cute range rather than the frustrating one, punctuated with clean and incredibly cute artwork. If you're looking for a cute high school romance that'll make you feel warm inside, give this one a go.

This was a cute and quick read. Your typical miscommunication trope. I won't lie though, this gave me AU Bakugo/Deku. Lol

I wish this manga could have been sent to my kindle it would have been easier to read. But I still really liked it. It had me sucked into their lives and I’m very much looking forward to reading more by this author.

This was a super cute, fun, and sweet introduction to this series. This couple is adorable, and I love their interactions with each other. I will definitely be looking to read the rest of the series. I highly recommend this for any fans of sweet and grinning-while-kicking-your-feet-in-the-air type romance :)

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to review this book!

This story was very cute! I will admit at first I wasn't sold. The art wasn't grabbing me as much as my prior graphic novel read. And I felt like the short stories pasted together weren't flowing like I wanted them to. But as I kept reading I started to really love these two. Their interactions were super cute. There is some sweet humor and vulnerability. I would definitely read more from this series!
