Sakura Miyazen and Sota Matsubayash are class mates in high school. Sota is very surprised and flustered when Sakura starts greeting him. But after a few days, he manages to overcome his shyness and start answering back. Eventually, the two start being able to talk, but they still feel awkward since neither is quite sure what the other is feeling. Fun for the reader, but not so much for the characters. A nice beginning to a high school romance tale spoiled a bit for me by the artwork. It just did not work for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for the chance to read this volume.
Extremely cute story I did wish that Matsubayashi was scarier but overall, I enjoyed it. Full review on my Goodreads.
This is a cute story about two teenagers who transfer to a new school at the same time and come from two very different backgrounds. One is a boy who is a reformed bad boy and doesn’t come from a lot of money while the other is girl who comes from a private school and is considered a “princess”. Each wants to befriend the other and must get over their awkwardness #MissMiyazenWouldLoveToGetCloserToYou #netgalley. .
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.
This is a rom-com manga based on two high school classmates. The classmates are pretty much total opposites, as it goes in these cute mangas. They both are secretly adoring the other, but find it difficult to even start a convo due to their differences / different backgrounds. The manga is adorable, and you'll find yourself hyping them up the entire time!
4.5/5

For fans of Horimiya and Toradora, this is like an amalgamation of both but in the best way possible.
The plot is basically about a girl everyone considers a princess as she comes from a pretty well-off family and with her polite and soft-spoken nature, while the male main character is considered a delinquent because of his rouge exterior, while he doesn’t mind the rumors that are spread about him he does wish he could talk to the female main lead, but he doesn’t want people to misunderstand the encounter and in turn ruin her social standing, so they’re accustomed to sharing mere greetings.
while the female character tries to make small talk by making references to some of his favorite movies, he brushes it off thinking it was just a coincidence and he probably misunderstood.
It is sort of trope-heavy, but it is a very cute and soft romance. I have to admit I do relate a bit to both of the characters, as someone who’s considered to have a resting rude face, I am considered to be serious or mad most of the time, which can make me a little bit unapproachable. On the flip side, when I'm bubbly and try to initiate conversations with people I'd like to be friends with, I always overthink the situation and assume the worst.
This book is a must for someone who loves Horimiya or Toradora or just wants a lighthearted romance manga to binge.
I will definitely be on the lookout for when Volume 2 will be released.
I think that I will not be continuing with this manga series.
The plot is simple yet because of the characters shyness & over thinking, sometimes I found myself thinking "Just go and talk to each other!"
It became quite annoying to be honest & repetitive.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy for an honest review
A good read I will be picking up volume 2
Rating 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was PRECIOUS - I think fans of Horimiya will really enjoy this! Miyazen is a total airhead and absolutely adorable. Their little blushing nervous relationship is so cutesy. I loved this! And the ending was literally perfect.
This was okay. It really isn't that special. It really follows the dialogue of a lot of romance mangas these days, like Komi Can't Communicate. Except, I found this one to be more boring than most. I'm getting tired of these and wish the characters would just talk to each other.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for the review.
Such a super cute story and so relatable. Extremely light hearted and quick to read; with a number of laugh out loud moments!
For those who are a bit older it’s a nice drive down memory lane to being a young kid trying to navigate their feelings and speak to their crush! Can’t wait to read more ♥️
This manga was such a cute one to read. It’s very trope filled, but in a good way. It’s one of those when you’re having a bad day and you want to read something that will make you smile kind of mangas.
It’s the delinquent and the nice girl who wants to get to know him and they both don’t really know how to talk to each other without blushing. It’s super cute and it made my heart feel warm and happy. Their constantly worried about if their doing the right thing and questioning each others actions when really, they are both crushing on each other hard.
I loved this. It was a sweet reprieve for my day when I feel pretty tired and I needed something light to read and uplift myself. Everyone deserves friendship and love even a delinquent. Sometimes, people are just wayward because their super protective and they don’t know another way and deep down they have a soft side. This was super cute to read.
This is the first volume in the series and it was so cute and adorable. I absolutely had a great time reading this first volume and now I am definitely interested and looking forward to read further parts in the series.
The two main characters like each and want to get to know each other more and get closer just like the title says.
It's a series of chapters, some longer than other but usually short and easy to read, in which they try to greet each other and show interest in the things they like.
Overall a nice and cute story that leaves you wondering how much closer they will be in the next volumes
In my opinion it is a really refreshing and cute story. The chapters are short but I really like the way the characters interact with each other. It's really a very cute story which warmed my heart. I really loved the style of it and it was a really amazing read.
This is very fun and lighthearted -- I went aww at every failed attempt to communicate with references to yakuza movies, that's adorable. Made me cheer for the protagonists, and root for them to progress their relationship at least until they are able to have a conversation about that :D Genuinely an easy, warmhearted read. I'd gladly pick up the sequel.
I have a hard time finding a wholesome high school romance - but I’m so happy to have found one in Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer to You!
This story is wholesome and both kids are totally unsure about their feelings and what they want, but they know they want to get to know each other better. Miyazen tries to learn more about Matsubayashi but when she quotes his favourite movies out of nowhere - it ends up a little awkward, but also has Matsubayashi shocked and intrigued she would know about them.
There is very little pressure to get these two together and while the chapters are very short and fly by, the story takes its time, letting these two kids be wholesome and awkward and just want to spend time together.
Consider me hooked and I’m super excited to get my hands on the next installment. I feel like this is a series I could read all in one day.
*I received an eARC from Kodansha Comics & NetGalley. All opinions are my own*
This manga is cute, funny, and relatable! I loved the innocence of the characters, and how sure they are of what they want. The mistakes, blunders, and misunderstandings are believable, and they stay fresh as we progress through the volume.
Definitely a sweet story I want to read more of!
We love a sweet, golden retriever, himbo boyfriend *insert clapping hand emojis.* And, finally, a misunderstanding trope that is actually cute and not so infuriating that it makes me want to pull my hair out. Akitaka did a wonderful job playing with well-loved tropes and creating an adorable story about two high school students both secretly crushing on the other and wanting to get closer (and both being very awkward about doing so). I caught myself smiling quite a few times while reading, particularly during the pinky promise scene and when Matsubayashi got struck through the heart with the "I believe in you" arrow. Matsubayashi was quite charming with Miyazen, even if he truly misunderstood her intentions every time she tried to get closer to him. And don't even get me started about the keychain.
Not much happens in the story, but I think that is part of its charm. It is simply a story about two people trying their hardest to navigate the awkwardness of being a teenager with a crush and the complexities of the social battlefield that is high school. This is an adorable first installment to a charming manga series that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys stories about a cute high school romance and the grumpy/sunshine trope. An adorable story with adorable art.
This is a very sweet and light story about two very shy teenagers you just want to be closer, when their style of life is so different. It´s lovely, the style is nice though the manga is short. You can read it like in just 1 hour.
It´s from 2022, so I was curious if there were more volumes, and there are 4 in total. The only bad thing is the price. Is too much for 130 pages.
This would be an enjoyable anime for the summer.
This is ridiculously cute and nothing much happens in the story. I think that’s why it’s so charming. Both characters want to be friends (or more) but are hopeless at trying to get to know each other. The first volume is a selection of short chapters, with each one having a moment that brings them a little closer. Sometimes only by a fraction.
Miss Miyazen Would Love to Get Closer feels like a perfect happy story. I really hope the next volumes continue this and no real conflict is added. While the plot might be quite simple it works because you just enjoy the cute journey both characters are on.
