Brilliant story, simply perfection. Elle Kennedy is an author that you know, no matter what the book is about, it’s going to be gooooood!
I didn't think it was possible for a book to knock The Graham Effect off of my top spot of favourite Elle Kennedy books but The Dixon Rule managed it!
Wow! I loved this book so much I don't even know where to start! Shane and Diana's relationship had me hooked from the get go. I love enemies to lovers as a trope but cross it with fake dating as well and I am sold immediately! The banter in this book is next level and I ate it up! I was so in love with this book that I managed to finish the whole thing in under 24 hours!
It is safe to say that I am extremely excited for the next book in this series and I know I'm going to love it just as much as the first two books!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for an eArc of this book!
Man I don't know, this genre of repeated plot and sex scenes have just lost their sparkle for me. There's only so many of the same book one author can write...
What a kinky love story 😅 but literally - this was a story about two people finding their kinks and falling in love whilst doing so 😂 Diana used to hate Shane but now their best friends are married and they are new neighbours so are trying to get along. However, in doing so they end up fake dating for mutually beneficial reasons and fall hard in the meantime.
Loved this - impressively straddles humour, mushy romance, hot sex and some pretty deep topics. Both characters were so very likeable and their chemistry was hot and sweet. My only critique is that, while the epilogue was very funny, I just wanted mooooore from it so I hope that comes in some form in the next in the series 😅
What to expect:
- fake dating
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity
- exploring kinks
- explores sensitive topics - DV and loss of parent
Elle Kennedy's novels just keep getting better for me, as we join Diana and Shane in The Dixon Rule. It's enemies to lovers, fake dating, friends with benefits with a whole load of spice and some incredibly sexy scenes. Diana and Shane have definite chemistry from the get go, constantly needling each other and winding the other one up while trying to pretend to date in front of their friends. I liked that they both approach the dilemma they're faced with in different ways at first - Shane wants to make his ex jealous, and Diana just wants to keep herself safe from an incredibly scary ex. Neither want anything serious, but both soon realise that the other is exactly what they need.
The Dixon Rule doesn't shy away from tackling some really uncomfortable topics, one of them being this awful ex of Diana's which escalates to some pretty awful scenes. If you have triggers, please read up before tackling this book. The same goes for parental deaths - I had to skim a few chapters towards the end because I really couldn't handle a few scenes. They were well written and approached well, but just not for me and I didn't really expect it from a contemporary romance on this level.
Some of the best spicy scenes I've read, but I was definitely thrown by the level of hard hitting content in this.
Was looking forward to the next book in this series and it did not disappoint! Elle Kennedy hits the spot everytime, the chemistry was unreal! Definitely a recommended read
Enjoyed the book and the characters generally, was going so well until about half way through where I found a 'joke' that for me and my personal experience was in poor taste.
I imagine a lot of people would not notice, or gloss over this though and would enjoy the book as I had hoped too. Would have been a much higher star rating for me if it hadn't been for that bit of insensitivity.
The return of Elle Kennedy! This book gave me everything I love about a classic Elle Kennedy hockey romance. The chemistry between the characters and the banter had me giggling and I didn't want to put the book down. I love the found family in this series and all the character interactions and friendships. Looking forward to the next one!
Elle Kennedy does it again. I loved the first book for his series (The Graham Effect) and this book did not disappoint. Sexy, sweet, spicy and funny! It’s got it all. I officially am in love with the hockey world Elle has created! I was obsessed with this book from the moment I picked it up, I didn’t not want to put it down. Highly recommended.. (as with all her hockey romance books). Amazing..
Guys, I’m a massive Elle Kennedy fan and hockey romance is my absolute favorite, so you better believe I felt like the luckiest girl in the world when I was approved to read The Dixon Rule. The Graham Effect was hard to beat, but she's done it again!
The tension, chemistry, plot, and character development were all amazing in this book. I was really rooting for them all the way. Elle Kennedy, you Queen! Some of those scenes I’ll never forget.
The Dixon Rule" by Elle Kennedy is an ideal choice for readers seeking a charming mix of romance, humor, and sports, especially those fond of enemies-to-lovers plots, fake dating scenarios, and hockey-themed tales. This heartwarming and engaging story promises a delightful blend of adventure, emotion, and wit, making it a must-read for those in search of a lighthearted and entertaining journey. This 4.2-star rating perfectly reflects the book's appeal and showcases its quality with a touch of sass and humor.
I've really enjoyed this new series and have just bought the Off Camus and Briar U series which I can't wait to get stuck into. I loved this even more than The Graham Effect. The chemistry and the banter is next level and had me hooked. There's the perfect balance of romance, spice, humour, and deeper emotions. It made me laugh as well as breaking my heart. I definitely shed a tear or two. Shane is so lovable and they make such an adorable couple. As with all of Elle's books, there are so many fantastic side characters to fall in love with as well as ones we already know and love. I adore that Diana is everyone's biggest supporter and she loves her friends deeply. Seeing them both grow and learn to trust each other was heartwarming.
The was amazing I love this author and her characters they had me hooked. I read within a day and wanted to keep reading more
I am a huge fan on Elle Kennedy, let’s be honest her writing style and her taste in book tropes alone is enough to support this statement, but then she knocks it out of the park again with the Dixon rule.
Who doesn’t love a tall handsome hockey player that is a bit of a playboy, but truly irresistible all at once, Diana met her match.. and the story was just brilliant to read.
4.5 stars
I always look forward to reading an Elle Kennedy story and this one was no exception.
I enjoyed this continuation of the series and it just goes to prove how skilled this author is at writing sports romances.
But I think you could read this as a stand alone book, if you've not read The Graham Effect.
There was plenty of romance, a nice amount of humour and more depth than I was expecting, which I really enjoyed.
The banter was some of the best that I've read in a while and they had some great chemistry too.
Really, you can't go wrong with an Elle Kennedy book.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved The Graham Effect so I was very excited to read The Dixon Rule. Shane and Diana had a great story. I did initially find Diana quite petty with how she treated Shane but she definitely grew on me as the story went on. The last portion of the story really gutted me. I really enjoyed how much Shane and Diana blossomed as the story went on. Cant wait for book 3
I loved this new book by Elle Kennedy.
I was fully invested in the dance/hockey crossover and whilst it was more dance heavy than hockey, I was here for it. Shane is definitely a new favourite book boyfriend.
As always it wasn’t all sunshine, with this book having some serious moments. This did seem a bit out of place for this book in my opinion and I felt it derailed the general vibe of the book towards the end.
Nonetheless, I did enjoy this on the whole and will continue to read every Elle Kennedy book that is released!
I am becoming such a strong fan of this series! I didn't know if I would connect to these characters as much as the ones featured in The Graham Effect, but I loved that both Diana and Shane had such strong personalities, neither of them backing down at any point but actually made for them being such an equal match. I also really enjoyed the fact that the majority of this took place off-campus, and that they weren't fresh 18-year olds, new to living independently - it just made the fact that they were neighbours even more fun! I thought their chemistry was great, and I loved that Diana grew able to become vulnerable around Sean and let her guard down, while he was also able to mature and prove himself to her, and to his family. I can't wait for the next installment!
Yes, it hooked me in as most Kennedy novels do, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to negate some other glaring issues with this book.
Firstly, the entire last 20% was like a fever dream where I feel like the author just all of a sudden thought that the characters needed some last-minute trauma and drama to round out the book? There was WAY too much just dropped at the end with no time to build up to, unpack, or properly flush out the two huge bombs at the end. Felt extremely out of place and rushed.
Secondly, the MMC being half black felt like an afterthought and just a box that was ticked to try and have 'diversity.' While I admit I do often skim over initial character descriptions so I could have missed a brief mention that he was half-black at the beginning, there was no other mention of his race aside from two throwaway comments about the /possibility/ of being discriminated against in one random chapter 3/4 through the book to never be mentioned again.
Wouldnt recommend.
'We don't annoy each other-'
'I mean, you're kind of annoying me right now.'
The second instalment to the Campus Diaries series, a spin off from the Off Campus & Briar U world's. I really liked both Shane and Diana in this. You knew they were going to have good chemistry from the first book and they didn't disappoint! Diana kicking Shane out the whatsapp group every five seconds made me laugh 😂
This is a classic case of fake dating for other's benefit, which turns into developing real feelings along the way. There's a lot going on throughout and i think readers will definitely be able to relate to some of the storylines going on.
There's a few references to Diana being 'such a cheerleader' in this and I loved it, because she was so cute when she was cheering others on 😅 I'm glad she didn't give off the stereotypical bitchy cheerleader vibe and it was heart-breaking to see the more vulnerable side to her 🥺
Enjoyed seeing more from some of the other characters who I'm assuming we'll be getting stories about, especially Blake! And I adored Maryanne, she was so cute 🥺 3.8*
