I loved the first book so dove immediately into the second. The second was... good, not great. Twists and turns as usual and I read 70% of it in one night. I had issues with the beginning and middle specifically the MCs motivations. I felt there was a lot left out at the beginning that we would have liked to see. I feel that the author tries to create a world that is realistic in its reactions to situations but the MC start the start felt very two dimensional to me in the first third of the book. The beginning plot was cliche imo. Things only occurred to make MC stay in that situation and the MC didn't explore their feelings or the situation enough. I felt that MC lost that fire and drive that they had in the first book. I understood the rage they felt but I felt it was only there to create conflict on a superficial level. I did like the book but I don't think I'd re-read all of it. If I was reading the series over again I'd skip to the last 1/3 or 1/4 of this book. The spicy scenes were really good though!
A second book that has surpassed my expectations!! This has truly surprised me, in the best of ways.
In this we follow Morgan as she enters a new kingdom, Sorega, and especially its city, Noctasia.
She finds herself among Kairos Draven’s people, the siabra. There, she makes new friends and alliances, even the most unlikely of them and learn more about herself and her powers.
The trials for the throne of the siabra empire takes place and there are many secrets Morgan has to uncover…
I loved seeing Morgan finally grow some backbone. She is clearly different from the last book and is not afraid to affirm herself -even if it’s against her own safety - in order to be able to make her own choices. Even sometimes throwing a fit or two…
I loved Lyrastra too. She’s such a complex and nuanced character! She can be mean and petty to some and fierce and loyal to those she cares about.
And Draven? He was so protective and caring of Morgan and so different from the ruthless monster he was believed to be! A swoon worthy book boyfriend!
But my personal favorite thing from this book was Nightclaw and the exmoors in general. They are dangerous, lethal battle beasts but such loyal creatures!
Thank you so much NetGalley and Starwater Press for this!!!
Thank you to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After the cliffhanger of the previous book, we wake up in a whole new city and country! Hunger games vibes of a trial for the throne, and so many new characters. Hawl the Bearkin love! And nightclaw!
Can’t wait to continue the story in the next book.
THIS WAS *bloody* BRILLIANT!
This was a mix of hunger games with a court of thorns and roses. The tension built between kairos and Morgan in the previous book absolutely goes off the scale in this one! It was swoony, and exciting the perfect mix of romantic moments and action that meant I couldn’t put this down!
So excited for the next book! This author is one to watch!
Thank you to Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for letting me read the arc for free.
This is the second book in Blood of a Fae series.
After the cliffhanger in the first book, I couldn't just not read the second one.
Morgan who was at death's door is saved by Draven, but at what cost? After being unconscious for days, Morgan finally wakes up in an unfamiliar place. When asked, Draven admits that it's an entirely different continent. But Morgan cannot go home yet. As there are certain games to be held. It turns out it's a fight for the throne. And Draven, as the second Prince has to participate and win at all costs or he risks letting a tyrant rule his kingdom. The games are also a test to the bonds of friendship and loyalty, whether they fray or fortify.
This has been a roller coaster ride. I didn't see Morgan being the daughter of the last High King of Valtain coming. I guessed that Draven and Morgan were bound somehow, but husband and wife? Wow. And it's always the last 50 pgs, the battle I didn't see coming. I knew Lancelet was alive!!!
Cliffhanger at the end, will make you want to immediately start reading the next book.
| I swallowed hard. “No. She couldn’t have just disappeared.”
“She didn’t just disappear. Don’t make me say the words, Morgan. Please.
You know what must have happened to her.”|
I think she used the arch mentioned in the prologue to go back... but I also remember someone mentioning it had been destroyed in Meridium.
The FMC was meek in the first book but as soon as she woke up, has suddenly whipped out her claws.
3.5/5
I enjoyed the sequel but I feel like the writing style changes from the first book. The first book felt more like ACOTAR and the second book felt more like Fourth Wing. It finally answered some of the questions that the first book presented while bringing about more questions. I'm excited to see how Morgan and Dravan's journey continues.
Court of Claws
Court of Claws is the second instalment in the Blood of Fae series and has Morgan waking up in unfamiliar territory following the events of book one.
I felt that the world building in this sequel was improved compared to book one. It was more relevant, concise and less repetitive for the majority of the book. I also liked that we were introduced to a new territory with new characters as it expanded on what we already knew from book one.
The plot was also engaging, with a deadly ‘hunger games’ style set of trials taking place. This was the highlight of the book for me, as they were well written and full of action and mystery.
For me, the book really fell short in character development, especially for our FMC Morgan. She came across as quite immature, especially in dialogue and monologue, and did not grow or progress at all throughout the book. She either ignored all her concerns and problems or just repeatedly dwelled on them without ever addressing them. Unfortunately this really impacted on my experience of this book and I was left feeling a bit disappointed.
"Court of Claws" by Briar Boleyn, the second installment in the "Blood of a Fae" series, continues to explore the intricate tale of love and power. The second book sends readers into the dangerous court of the Siabra, Kairos Draven, now bound to Morgan, remains a complex and compelling character whose motivations and past are further explored in this sequel,
I’m really enjoying this series! The plot is super fun and I love the base in Arthurian lore, but with a fae twist ✨ Also the covers are stunning!
This book doesn’t add a huge amount to the overarching plot of the series (the huge war that’s happening back at Camelot) but I really enjoyed learning more about the Siabra and the history of the fae worlds, kingdoms and rifts. There’s a lot of development in how our main characters are fleshed out, and a strengthening in their power and influence. So I can see it’s all gearing up for them to be able to influence the war a lot more, and it feels like the plot is building up to a big battle! There’s great world building in this series too.
The pacing is sometimes a little off for me, and the FMC is sometimes infuriating lol, but the MMC is so patient with her 🤣 I am actually devouring these books so fast though, the vibes are so fun and they’re so easy to read quickly!
Also some of my fav tropes: one bed, forced proximity, fake dating, lovers from opposing kingdoms, bonded creatures and riders, and a fight to the death tournament 🙊 (I also really enjoy that there’s plenty of same sex relationships and a non-binary bear 🐻🥹)
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for the opportunity to read this series in exchange for an honest review! ❤️
As Court of Claws begins Morgan Pendragon wakes up in a completely different world than the one she left in Queen of Roses (Book 1) and the world she grew up in. She finds herself betrayed by her lover and stuck with Draven who she clearly has a connection to whether she likes it or not.
If Book 1 of the Blood of a Fae series was all about our female MC and her court then without a doubt Book 2 is all about our male MC and the court he grew up in.
With both book 1 and book 2 having a lot of set up, I still found that book 2 went faster. Ir was probably because I was already invested in the character AND it answered so many questions that went unanswered from. Queen of Roses.
This book gives us:
+ Fated Mates
+ Enemies to Lovers
+ Found Family
+ SPICE!!
Left on another cliff hanger I immediately picked up the third book to start reading. I NEED to know what happens next!

I am rating this book 4 stars. I struggled with some of the pacing during the first half of the book but really enjoyed the second half and the trials. I am looking forward to seeing how the characters and their relationships grow and change over the next book. I’m loving that we are starting to learn more about the exmoors and hope that will continue to be the case in the future. Looking forward to book three to see where the story and characters go.
Court of Claws is a great follow-up to Queen of Roses. I couldn't put it down thanks to the action-packed Challenges and adventure. Im a sucker for Fated Mates and this did not disappoint.
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. This book was more fast paced and gripping than the previous. I tore through this in no time. Left me on the edge of me seat needing to know what would happen next.
ACOTAR, GoT, Hunger Games = Blood of a Fae
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4.5/5
🌶️🌶️2/5 spicy meter (not much more than the first book)
I absolutely adore the premise of a more fairytale-esque fae retelling of a classic story known by many. In this part of the story, Morgan wakes up in Kairos Draven’s homeland, unknown that she is bound to him in more ways than one. Throughout this story the two go through many, many trials together, make ups, more trials, and more.
I really enjoyed the tournament premise, and that it truly was a fight to the death with the other opponents. I think we saw how bloodthirsty some of the contestants were early on when Morgan and Beks spied on the training. This whole concept of the story was very exciting to me.
I did enjoy seeing a whole new court, and enjoyed each of the characters that were introduced. I will however, say, this book felt very heavily ACOTAR coded. Is that an issue? Not necessarily. ACOTAR is my favorite series of all time, and I think it was the beginning of a new era of fantasy, so obviously writers take inspiration (knowing or not) from that. Also, is anything really truly original anymore? However, some things just really rang a bell for me.
-Three items of power (when wielded together by one special person) - just like the Dread Trove
-A court underground with a beautiful city above worth protecting - just like the Court of Nightmares and Court of Dreams
-A 3 step tournament (but with more Hunger Games vibes) - similar to the premise of Feyre having to break the curse, but like I said, more Hunger Games for sure
-The quotes right after the first tournament reminded me exactly of the infamous ACOMAF quote “To the stars who listen and the dreams that are answered…to the people who look up to the stars and wish”
Said quote: “To the far and mortal dreamers…to the hope that lies in dreams. To those who possess the heart of a dreamer”. This might be the only similarity that really did irk me.
I loved Draven even more in this book, but maybe that’s because I just adore our morally grey characters. Morgan is insufferable at times, but I find it hard to find a FMC that often isn’t, that just seems to be how they are coded lol. Draven was sincere in his feelings to Morgan and also explained the role they would be playing, and I felt like Morgan was quite immature. Draven saved her life.
I am loving this series - eating it up! I finished this in less than a day. I can’t wait to read the next. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this ARC!
✨💫Book Review💫✨Court of Claws by Briar Boleyn is book two of the Blood of Fae series. The story continues where Queen of Roses left off — we continue to follow our fierce and sassy FMC, Morgan, as she learns more about herself and her powers. This is a continued journey of self-exploration and self-discovery with a lot of hidden secrets, action and adventure, and plot twists throughout. This book focuses on world development as the reader is immersed in a new world full of mythical creatures, deadly competition, and elemental magic. Morgan begins to learn more about her heritage, who she is, and who she wants to become. This was a page turner for me — It was hard to put down!

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This series is interesting but feels too similar to other trending books for me to fully separate plots.
Book one was an exciting ride, and I couldn't wait to get started on book two! This being said, I believe this book is far superior to the first. As in the first book, this book contains extraordinary detail, amazing world building, and incredible character development. In this fantasy, the romance and spice were intensified, making it even more compelling. It's refreshing to see new characters written, and it's fantastic to see pronouns that are gender inclusive. The ending was certainly not one I had anticipated, and I am eager to start book 3!
Thank you Netgalley & publishers for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this book I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!!!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
"Court of Claws," the thrilling sequel in Briar Boleyn's series, surpasses its predecessor with an intensified blend of romance and fantasy that's utterly captivating. In this installment, we delve deeper into the tumultuous enemies-to-lovers relationship between Morgan and Draven, which is artfully portrayed with a tantalizing push and pull that keeps readers voraciously turning pages.
Morgan's internal struggle with her burgeoning feelings adds a delicious layer of complexity to her character development, making her more relatable and her journey more compelling. The romantic tension builds to a crescendo, culminating in scenes with Draven that are both emotionally charged and exquisitely satisfying—definitely worth the wait.
Briar Boleyn excels in crafting vivid, dynamic scenes that transport readers right into the heart of the action. The pacing is relentless, almost necessitating the book to be devoured in one sitting. It’s a testament to Boleyn's skill that the story flows so smoothly, with each chapter seamlessly leading into the next, escalating the stakes and deepening the intrigue.
A special thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this mesmerizing sequel. "Court of Claws" not only lives up to the expectations set by the first book but exceeds them, cementing itself as a standout in the genre. Eagerly having downloaded the subsequent books, I am thoroughly excited to see where Morgan and Draven's story will lead next. This series is a must-read for fans of fantasy romance looking for their next addictive read.
There was lots I liked about this book and lots that I did not. I found that Morgan jumped between hating Draven to being obsessed with him to hating him again to be too dramatic/extreme for my taste and gave me a bit of whiplash. I get having conflicting feelings, but hers were always expressed in extremes one way or the other.
I also found Draven a bit shallow(?) as a character. He didn't feel as well fleshed out as I wanted him to be. There also felt like there were many opportunities for him to be more forthcoming about things, and there never seemed to be a solid explanation for why he wasn't. It felt like some of those aspects could have been more well thought out/better explained.
Overall, I am enjoying the story and looking forward to the next book.
