I never get tired of these WWII stories. I love that they connect me to those that came before. This one was an emotional and well done experience.

I enjoyed this one very much. Wartime stories always interest me and this one was on the top of my list. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another great read, Historical fiction based on an ordinary street in world war two.. The neighbours in Weaver street have to stick together and help each other out during the difficult times that they face. As you would expect it is very emotional following their journey but there are joyous moments as well. Loved it

In this World War II historical fiction novel, readers live on Weaver Street in Liverpool with a host of strong, capable women whose lives have been upset by the war. Maggie, Kitty, and Mavis support their families as the war wages on and the men in their families are away at war. WAAF officer Anna joins the community and strikes up friendships with Maggie’s ARP warden daughter Lily and her lodger Mavis as well as her coworkers at the local base. As the war rages and their lives continue to change, these women must band together to support each other through the highs and lows of life in wartime Liverpool under the constant threat of aerial bombing. The characters are the heart and soul of this story, and alternating between their perspectives allows Walsh to create a fuller picture of the war and life on the English home front. The relationships between the characters are lively, natural, and fun to follow as their relationships develop throughout the novel. The first book in a new World War II series by Walsh, she does an incredible job introducing the characters and the setting to readers; fans of the World War II historical fiction genre are sure to enjoy this book.

Hard Times on Weaver Street

I felt I was welcomed home to Weaver Street when I had the privilege to read the next chapter of these wonderful neighbors. New neighbors were introduced. Would they fit in? Will Weaver Street change?

I loved that the neighborhood was one of different cultures and economic status. They pulled together and survived the bad times. They came together to celebrate the good times. It was lovely to see how they united. You don't see that in today's world.

My favorite character was Kitty. She had such high hopes for her future. She arrived on Weaver Street as a young bride and developed into one of the strongest on the street.

I really enjoy period pieces. This was a page turner.

Hard Times on Weaver Street

When the Great Depression hits Liverpool hard, can Weaver Street's close knit community keep each other safe?

As Liverpool and its residents begin to heal from the wounds and memories of World War I, life on Weaver Street in 1924 is blessedly peaceful.

At number eleven, widow Kitty Conlon is dreaming about her upcoming wedding to John, while at number nine her best friend Maggie is cursing her bad luck as she juggles the demands of her cantankerous mother, stroppy daughter and fly-by-night beau. At number fifteen, Mavis has a mysterious new lodger, while further along the street the O Malley family are missing their beloved Ireland.

But as the Depression begins to bite, and the arrival of the Muller family on Weaver Street signals the worrying drumbeats of conflict coming from Germany, the fragile happiness and peace Liverpool has been enjoying looks destined to end. And as the neighbours pull together in the toughest of times, the women on Weaver Street face the prospect of waving their menfolk off to war.

Weaver Street at War

The book is based during WW II in England. I think of my mother while reading this as she was born in England and lived there during the war. She has told me stories of her childhood. She still has her ration book. She tells me how she had to go to the bomb shelter and her father being a home guard. She has told me about the dancing in the streets when the war was over and how one young boy burnt his bum jumping over a bonfire during the celebration.

My Mom is 86 now. Her memories are clear. She would have had a difficult time reading this book. Any story based during this time bothers her. I loved it but of course, I didn't experience what my Mom did.

The neighbors became family. They celebrated and mourned together. They had each other's back. What is sad is that I don't know my neighbors. You say hello if you run into them while taking in the mail. Would it be different if we experienced what they did on Weaver Street?

I have read all three books of this series. I loved them all.

I was so excited when I heard there was going to be another book in the Weaver Street Series and it did not disappoint, this was a brilliant follow up and I was instantly pulled into the story. I loved the seamlessly blend of characters old and new and they way fight battles together with community spirit and unbreakable friendships. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I was rooting for the wonderful characters to overcome the trials and tribulations they faced, this was such a heartfelt wartime saga and I was easily lost in it and you will be too.

I am a huge fan of Chrissie and her work and have been for quite a while too. By no means have I read everything that she has written but that is something that I hope to rectify in the not too distant future. I must admit that I am particularly enjoying the series set on 'Weaver Street'. I read and loved the first two books in the series and have been impatiently waiting for the third book in the series to be released. Well ladies and gents the wait is over because the third book in the series is called 'Weaver Street At War' and it was released on 15th May 2024. It's another superb addition to a superb series. I absolutely loved reading 'Weaver Street At War' but more about that in a bit.

The fact that I saw 'Weaver Street' and Chrissie's name on the cover of a book that I knew I hadn't read yet was enough to grab my attention and draw me in. As soon as I started reading the story itself that was it for me. I started reading and didn't stop for a good two hours or so. From then on, it's safe to say that reading 'Weaver Street At War' became seriously addictive. My copy of the book wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. I had taken so well to the characters that I had to keep reading to see how the story was going to pan out and how it affected the characters who seemed more like friends than characters in a book. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn't realise just how quickly the time was passing and how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Weaver Street At War'. I found 'Weaver Street At War' to be a gripping and emotional story which certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

'Weaver Street At War' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Chrissie Walsh. Chrissie has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Chrissie's books often feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. Chrissie certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story and then some. Chrissie clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. Chrissie has obviously done a lot of research into the time period during which the story takes place and this makes the story seem that bit more authentic. I love the way in which Chrissie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Weaver Street At War' and I would recommend this book to other readers. 'Weaver Street At War' is historical fiction at its best. I will certainly be reading more of Chrissie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Another great instalment of the Weaver Street books with a new character coming to live in Weaver Street. Anna comes to live with Mavis as her new lodger but could Anna already be linked to Weaver Street without her knowing? I love this series, Chrissie's writing flows so easily drawing you right into the story. The characters of old are a joy to read about and new characters introduced just fit into the bosom of the street so well.
A fantastic series and a must read for any fans of saga novels.

As the war continues the ladies of Weaver Street come together to help each other and wish for the end of the war. A good story of friendship and community..

Weaver Street at War is the third book in the Weaver Street series. I haven't read the previous books and I don't feel as if it caused any problems with reading this one. I loved the people of Weaver Street and in hindsight, I wish I had read the other books first. But only because I would have enjoyed reading some of the characters' backstories.

This book, even read as a stand-alone one was a thoroughly enjoyable story. I found myself totally involved in the lives of the main characters. When they laughed I laughed, when they cried, yes, I cried. The author definitely has a way of writing that really captures your heart.

What I particularly liked was that not only did I enjoy reading about the lives and loves of the women of Weaver Street, but I was given a good idea of how it was to live during the war years. The hardships, the loves, the losses, but most of all, the way that people pulled together like they never had before. I was very impressed.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I am definite that it won't be the last.

Another great book in the Weaver Street series. It’s great to catch up with Kitty and everyone one on Weaver Street. It’s now time for everyone to pull together during World War Two and we see the younger generation of the street step up for the war.
Anna has had a sad start to life firstly being given up for adoption and then to be adopted by a couple that never really cared about her. Anna joins the WAAF and finds herself billeted in Weaver Street with Mavis. Soon Anna finds herself welcomed into the street and feeling like for the first time in her life she actually belongs somewhere.
This book follows Anna and Molly and Lily as the battle the traumas of the War and try to live the best life they can. This is a great series and I can recommend all three books. If you like sagas you will not be disappointed with this series.

Another great read in one of my favourite historical saga series. It’s great to be back with the neighbours of Weaver Street, it’s 1941 and everyone is feeling the effects of the war, the men folk of Weaver Street are away fighting for their country and the women must stick together and support each other. It’s a difficult time for everyone and their friendships are so important during this time. This is an emotional read at times and I did shed shed a tear or two but it was also at times an uplifting read . Whilst this is an easy read it’s one that I didn’t want to put down .

I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.

This is a historical saga that takes place in Liverpool during WWII. On first impressions, the protagonist, Anna, seemed like a lovely character, and I was keen to know more about her. I quickly warmed to the other characters too; they seemed warm and friendly, and I loved how the author brought Weaver Street to life, making it seem like such a homely place to live.

While I was reading, I thought a little bit about the things that we may easily take for granted today, such as the items that were rationed during the war. I often find that this type of book feels like an escape, and has a strange way of making me feel a little bit nostalgic for a time and place that I never lived in.

I felt that as the book progressed, several of the characters experienced something that changed them in some way and helped them to grow. I really enjoyed getting to know Anna and her friends on Weaver Street. Over the last few years, I've taken to reading more historical sagas, and I think I would be interested in reading more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and to the author, for the opportunity to read and review this.

I absolutely loved Chrissie Walsh's "Weaver Street at War". This is the first book in a series, and I can't wait to read the rest!

I love this series! It was great to be back in Weaver Street with all the gang who are pulling together even harder now that the street is at war. The next generation are to the forefront of this story. All have loved ones serving and the women are doing their bit too. Anna Carswell is the new addition to the street. Working for the WAAF at Derby House, she is billeted with Mavis and soon becomes one of the gang. Kitty's friend Maggie is still her same old self even though she is now respectably married to Stanley. Lily still lives with them and has joy and heartache aplenty.
I took a star off because there were quite a few coincidences, too many I thought and it was all a little too neatly tied up. This was war after all. Anna's story was strange and didn't sit right with me.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend the series to all Lizzie Lane and Ellie Dean fans.

Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of this book.

Life on Weaver Street continues along with the war and we get too see what all our beloved favourite characters are up to and we are introduced to a couple of new ones. Anna joins the Weaver Street crew in this book and is warmly welcomed to the street. There are a few surprises in the plot with family complications and bombings that had me shocked with tears streaming down my face. The girls keep everything light hearted and so fun and I feel like Lily is the brightest light with her honest and direct manner which made me laugh. A story full of joy, intrigue, war struggles and community. They will not let anything dim there hearts as they support each other through the toughest of times.

It was great being back in Weaver Street and this time round the residents are dealing with the war. They support each other through the heartbreak and the joy that they experience. As well as characters from the previous books we meet Anna and Ross. WAAF Anna is sent to lodge with Mavis and immediately is embraced and receives the maternal love and support that has been missing from her life. She then meets Ross and although pushes him away at first they soon begin a relationship. We catch up with Lily, matriarch Kitty, Maggie and all the others in Weaver Street. Their stories are woven into the book and it always feels that they all get an equal amount of space in the story. There is such historical detail in this and is written in such a way that I was able to visualise the events, locations and each character’s individuality shine through. I really hope there is another book in this series!! Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC
