Was very excited to see this pop up on netgalley and narrated by Jennifer Ikeda who I have loved listening to on the A Court of thorns and roses series. She just has such an easy voice to listen to even when you speed it up, it just all feels so magical.
I first listened to this audiobook while walking the West Highland Way (long distance trail through some beautiful Scottish Highlands) and it was just a perfect dark academia, witches/vampires read. Diana, a descendant of witches finds herself coming across an ancient manuscript while doing research in Oxford.
There is witches, vampires, demons, and it is simply charming.
I’ll be recapping the rest of the series in preparation for book 5 releasing in may,!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audio in exchange for an honest review,
One of my favourite series. The first time I read this, it took a while to get through, but now it’s a go to when I need a reading boost.
Really enjoyed in audiobook form, works well.
I read this book around 10 years ago, and it was one of those reads that completely transported me to another world. I couldn't get enough of it back then, and I still have my old, well-loved copy sitting on my bookshelf, even if it's not in the pristine condition it once was.
So, when I saw that there was an audiobook version available, I couldn't click "request" fast enough. Jennifer Ikeda's narration is absolutely captivating. Her voice brings the story to life in such a vivid way, and her portrayal of the characters is just spot-on.
Listening to this audiobook felt like reconnecting with old friends while discovering new nuances in the story. It's a magical experience that I highly recommend to anyone who loves fantasy and romance. Whether you're diving into the All Souls Trilogy for the first time or revisiting it like me, this audiobook is a must-listen.
You've read the book, you've seen the TV adaptation, now revel in their glory once more via the audiobook - the only version that can travel everywhere with you!
I love this story and having it on audio is just wonderful. I can listen whilst doing other thing and get to the next part of the story that I don't want to end (luckily I have the other parts lined up).
It's a love story with so much more going on. The writing is really evocative and the characters are all so detailed. You really feel like you've been going through everything with them!
Okay, but an urban fantasy that refers to scholarly articles and Darwinism? Sooo cool! This is perfect for autumn - dark academia, the supernatural, autumn settings, night walks, gothic fancy estates…
A world of witches, daemons and vampires.
A manuscript which holds the secrets of their past and the key to their future.
Diana and Matthew – the forbidden love at the heart of it.
I would definitely recommend the audiobook format!
However, this was waaay too romance heavy for me.
I wanted more in the college, more of the academia vibes that was cultivated at the start. The emphasis of the mysterious books promoted in the blurb was just not that dominant in the actual story.
Minor spoiler:
Like, this is the first book and they’re married so quickly?! It just feels too unbelievable especially as he’s supposed to be really against love and commitment etc due to his traumatic history.
Ah, How to review my favourite book of all time? I’ve read hundreds of books throughout the years and none have managed to beat this off the top spot of my favourite ever book.
I also love consuming a much beloved book in every format available so the audiobook was a way to experience the book again but in a completely new way. It’s my ultimate comfort read and I just adore everything about it. It’s got everything, magic, witches, vampires, time travel, amazing characters, great story, everything!
Jennifer Ikeda did an amazing job at narrating the book and bringing it to life the magic from the pages. It’s a fair chonk of a book so there’s plenty to keep you occupied, I never wanted it to end.
I absolutely love the character of Diana and the love between Diana and Matthew. And also the feeling of family, strength and beginnings that this book has in spades! I’m so excited to venture further on into this series to see what happens and where it will go. I’m also a huge lover of the TV show adaptation of these books and it’s a great addition to this amazing series.
It’s been written extremely well and you feel like your on an adventure with them both as the story unfolds. I literally couldn’t recommend this book and audiobook enough!
