A hard hitting book about love, loss, relationships, and finding the people you love and trust.

A book that I’ll recommend to my older teens as it covers some difficult parts of life really well.

This was a great fast paced easy read. Deftly felt a little to predictable at times and I was sad that it just didn't shock me at any point! Would recommend as a great palette cleanser in between heavier books;

The book is definitely an easy read. Easy to get into, easy characters to follow, and a twist is always great.

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy. Unfortunately, this story really wasn't for me. The writing is very reminiscent of 2010s YA contemporary and just doesn't hit the mark in today's climate. I was unable to read past 30% of the book as the writing was not compelling, the characters were quite bland, and the formatting made it difficult to follow the story.

I did not actually know this novel was for a young adult audience until just literally now but I am glad I read it as I did find it an interesting novel.

We meet main character Ella who is wrecked with guilt after her best friend Hayley passed away in an automobile accident.

We also meet Hayley's ex-boyfriend Sawyer and Ella starts to have feelings for him which increases her guilt three-fold.

Ella is asked to help sort out Hayley's bedroom where she finds her diary, she starts to read and soon realises that Hayley had some secrets that Ella was not aware of.

This was a really interesting read and (even thought I am 40) I did find it a good, fast paced book to read.

Thanks to Sloan Harlow, the publishers and Netgalley for allowing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a very predictable read but written in a very engaging manner.

Things I liked:
- Quick, fast-paced read
- You can almost imagine it as a Netflix series
- Hayley’s diary entries, I felt this was an effective touch. I also adored her character.
- Dealt with grief well

Things I didn’t like:
- Predictable
- Whilst the twist sort of made sense, there were many unanswered questions.

Thank you NetGallery for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I did enjoy this book and its various twists and turns along the way. Whilst I understand that the book has good sentiments and powerful meaning, as an adult I don't necessarily think this book should be targeted as Young Adult. The main reasons being the large amount of explicit sex scenes and domestic violence preset . There were aspects of this book which were definitely targeted at YA, however the depth of the topics mainly domestic violence made the book more New Adult or on the cusp of Adult Fiction in my opinion.

This book was very thrilling, which made for a relatively quick read. It was one that kept me on my toes with the plot twists and surprises. The relationships between the characters had be gripped and throughout I was trying to figure out how it was going to end. I thought the aspects of dealing with grief were covered very well and Ella's character perfectly portrayed the different feelings that people may experience when heeling from a death. I definitely enjoyed the romance aspects of the book. For this I will happily give the book a 4/5

Unfortunately due to the formatting and spelling errors which could be found throughout the Kindle version of this book, it did make it a little difficult to read in my opinion and some of the time I contemplated given up.. At times words were missing and replaced with question marks or words such as 'The' were half there half not. It would be a recommendation that someone look into this so that it doesn't take away from enjoying the content of the book.

Thank you to Puffin Books and NetGalley for letting me read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Title: Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow

Release Date: May, 30th, 2024

3.5 Stars

Ella grapples with guilt and grief following the tragic accident that claimed her best friend Hayley's life. Returning to school, she finds herself drawn to Sawyer, Hayley's boyfriend, despite her inner turmoil.
As their bond deepens, Ella discovers unsettling truths about Sawyer's past and his relationship with Hayley through her friend's journal. Despite her instincts telling her to stay away, Ella is unable to resist the pull towards Sawyer, even as she uncovers dark secrets that leave her questioning everything she thought she knew about him.

This book offers a captivating blend of witty banter, romance, and thriller elements, with dark undertones and layers of trauma. Potential trigger warnings should be noted due to the heavy content.

Despite some predictable twists, I found the narrative compelling, keeping me hooked and finishing the book in less than 24 hours. The story is told from three different perspectives, providing insight into the complex relationships between Ella, Sawyer, and Hayley through her diary entries. The diary entries aded that little touch of angst and mystery to the narrative.

The plot delves into raw emotions, deceit, and hidden truths, prompting reflection on their consequences. We are navigated through the complexities of grief, loneliness, and love, while shedding light on the fear associated with domestic situations and anger issues.

Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow
Rating: 3.5/5
Release Date: 30 May 2024

It’s been months since the accident that killed Ella’s best friend, Hayley, and Ella can’t stop blaming herself. Now Ella is back at school, and everywhere she looks are reminders of her best friend—including Sawyer, Hayley’s boyfriend. Little by little, they grow closer, until Ella realizes something horrifying ; she’s in love with her dead best friend’s boyfriend.

"Everything We Never Said" is a dual-POV novel that includes excerpts from Hayley’s diary, delving into the intertwined relationships between Ella, Sawyer, Hayley, and Hayley's boyfriend, “S.” The characters are well-crafted and relatable.

The book flows smoothly and is well-paced. While some of the dialogue can be a bit slow at times, it is generally suitable for the intended audience. Despite a touch of predictability, it remains an enjoyable YA read.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Penguin Random House UK Children’s | Penguin, and the author, Sloan Harlow, for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and fair review.

What an interesting premise. This would make a great movie or miniseries. I’m so excited to see how this book unfolds and unravel the mystery of what happened to our protagonists friend.

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy. Unfortunately, whilst the story started off intriguing, I couldn’t read past chapter 2 due to incredibly bad formatting with a lot of mistakes and many words such as “the” missing. This made it incredibly hard to read and follow unfortunately.
