This book was entertaining enough. It kept me curious throughout the story. It was a slower pace than what I'm used to. More mystery than thriller, I found myself playing investigator as the plot developed. This story kept me guessing until the end, which was not what I was expecting! There are dual timelines that both help to develop the characters. There are so many secrets in this book, and they are revealed, the story all comes together. 3.5 stars.

Briony grew up in Summerdene. When she was old enough to be off to college and move away she never thought she would go back. Alice her godmother gave her the Summerdene house in her will so she decided to go back.
I figured out part of the mystery early on when her daughters boyfriend started acting a bit cryptic. It kept my attention and i wanted to keep reading to figure out what would happen next.
I enjoyed this read.
Thank you netgalley for the opportunity.

On the hottest day of the summer, we wait for Molly on the riverbank, desperate to slip into the cool water. But as the sun starts to fade, it’s clear she isn’t coming. We’ll never see our friend again…
Years later, after an unexpected inheritance, Briony returns to her godmother’s grand countryside home where she spent her teenage years. Despite its idyllic appearance, the old stone house carries memories Briony would rather forget. To escape the controlling behaviour of her godmother’s son, Jeremy, Briony spent every possible moment with her best friends, Molly and Samantha, until the day Molly vanished without a trace.
Briony is certain Molly was keeping a secret in those final days. Why else was she acting so strangely? And why did Briony constantly feel like they were being watched? When Briony discovers Molly’s decades-old bathing suit in a locked part of the house, she begins to piece together what happened to her friend. But, as more skeletons come to light, is Briony ready to uncover the truth after so many years?
This is a slow-paced mystery that kept me curious and guessing from the start to the surprising ending. It is told in alternating timelines from the 1980's and present time. The characters are well-developed with an interesting plot. A good thriller with twists and turns and POV of several characters, mainly Briony. This was a very enjoyable book with a return to the past and how the events impacted the people they became. Briony, in the past, lived with her godmother, Alice, and her son, Jeremy. Briony has now inherited Summerdine and all of its secrets. While waiting for Molly to go swimming, Samantha and Briny realize that Molly goes missing. They figure that Jeremy must have something to do with Molly's missing. If you like secrets then you will love this book.
I couldn't put this book down by deidre palmer. it's a thrilling addictive story. full of twists and turns
I really struggled and felt like this jist dragged too much and had too much pointless detail for me to really get invested .I loved the premise and it did get more interesting towards the end but I skimmed most of it just to get it finished
I absolutely loved the description of this story when I saw it. Unfortunately after getting to 38 percent I found the story not going anywhere and I battled to stay engaged. I felt that there is to much detail and not the style of writing that I tent to enjoy.
I wish the writer all the best when it goes on sale. Unfortunately not for me.
I found Her Best Friend's Secret to be a little too slow paced for me--it could have been significantly shorter, and I definitely found myself skimming through parts where I felt it dragged. I wouldn't really call it a mystery or a thriller, as all the twists are pretty obvious from fairly early on. It's more of a family drama, with a mystery for the characters but not so much the reader. Unfortunately, because I figured out the mystery so early, I found myself getting frustrated with the characters for not figuring it out. Not a bad book, but definitely go into it knowing that it's more drama than thriller, and be prepared for the slow pace.
Her Best Friends Secret by Deirdre Palmer due to be published on April 23 2024. Published by Storm Publishing. This is the first book I’ve read from the author but will definitely not be the last. I cannot wait to read more. The writing was amazing and the story just flowed and I couldn’t put it down until I finished.
Briony had been left an inheritance from her godmother, Alice - the house, Summerdene, in which she was raised with Alice's son, Jeremy. Briony spent her childhood with her best friends Molly and Samantha, until Molly vanished. Now she has returned to her childhood home to turn it into a bed and breakfast along with the help of her daughter, Faye. She discovers an old swimsuit of Molly's in one of the rooms. Why would it be there, and what happened to Molly when she disappeared? Is she still alive?
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were easy to follow and I really enjoyed storyline!!!
I found it hard to get into this book and found myself skimming the pages to get through it. However having seen some of the other reviews, I think I'll give it another go as I wonder if I missed something? it because quite gripping towards the end and I do usually really enjoy stories from two different times so I'll take it with me on holiday this summer and try again!
I love this author. This is one of my books where someone has to go back to their hometown. In this one Bri has to come home to assess a property she has inherited. It was her godmother's home. She spent her teen years here as a foster child in the 80s. It is now 2022 and she's got an adult daughter and this house.
I really felt for Bri when her daughter brought home that man. My daughter gets attached to losers/creepers sometimes too. And Logan is a real creeper.
Halfway through I could guess what was happening but it didn't detract from the story at all.
This is a slow burn that left me uncomfortable the entire time. Lots of talk of visits to the pub, walking around the village, and making coffee, and then there is this underlying discomfort.
Wonderful ending!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this copy in return for my honest review.
It was a good thriller with twists and turns. The twist didn’t shock me as much as I expected it to! But overall a good book.
Her Best Friend's Secret is a suspenseful thriller that follows three best friends as they struggle through their teenage years and then the aftermath of decisions made during those years. In the present, Briony has just found out that she has inherited her Godmother's beautiful mansion. Her daughter convinces her to convert it into a Bed and Breakfast. Soon after moving back to the small town, Briony is successfully running her inn and her daughter has met a charming man and is developing quite the relationship. Unfortunately, not all is as it seems. Can Briony trust her guests, her help, or even her daughter's boyfriend!? Someone knows what happened all those years ago. Now Briony is forced to face her past.
Briony, Sam, and Molly were the best of friends, so what happened that led to one of them disappearing and never being heard from again. The description of this book had me super excited; however, it did not live up its promise. There really wasn't much mystery or thriller to this book. I was able to predict the entire plot almost from the start. The characters are all underdeveloped and mostly quite unlikable. The pacing is extremely slow and there are a lot of unnecessary details. Overall, this was just not a book for me.
I wish this book wasnt so much of a slow burn as it was. I prefer more faster paced books. May give this author another try further down the road
This was very gripping from page one and i couldn't put it down and read in one sitting. This book kept you on the edge of your seat.
When you think you have it figured out..... BOOM nope a new twist which is what makes a great plot and book! The Character build and just the overall reading of this book just leaves the reader wondering WOW what did i just read.
Fantastic read, great writing and will recommend this book! WTG Deirdre!!! Will read anything the author writes.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
Her Best Friend's Secret by Deirdre Palmer kept me engaged from the beginning and had a hard time putting it down! Mystery, drama, twists and turns throughout! I will certainly be checking out more of Palmer's books!
The book is cleverly-plotted and well-paced and I absolutely thought I knew where the story was going but was wrong.
I raced through it - it was an addictive and compelling read.
Thank You NetGalley and Storm Publishing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Extremely engrossing read! My first time reading a book by the author and I absolutely loved reading her work.
A slow burn thriller with multiple perspectives. It isn't complex yet managed to pull me in and keep my interest. Multiple characters who build up the mystery and interest.
Thank you Storm Publishing and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange of my unbiased review.
Plot premise was interesting but lacks excitement or twists. More of a mystery vs thriller. I found it slow paced as well.
This book had me addicted from the start! It was so intense that I could not wait to see the twist. Authot knows how to deliver the breath taking, draw dropping twist that we all know and love and never expect the ending. I believe this book is her best one yet but I say that everytime I read one of her books. Thank you for allowing me to read your book in advance.
I loved this book and the characters Briony, Faye and Molly. Jeremy was some character a little bit odd. I loved how the story unfolded and kept you guessing as to what the secret was. It was a compelling read and I loved the twists and turns. A real page turner.
