Dragon Den was 4 solid stars. I would definitely hope a second is in the authors future with that ending. It’s clear there was a planned methodology to the store that honestly was crisp and well balanced.
Dragon Den was an ARC graciously sent to me through NetGalley and the publisher, Yggdrasil Press, and will be released June 20,2024. Thank you to both NetGalley and Yggdrasil Press for the chance to read and review this ARC.
Overall this book is entertaining and does feature some interesting aspects. The commentary was very prominent and did not shy away from the themes it was covering. I did really enjoy the authors writing style and I do think she has a lot of talent in telling a story.
Where the book lost me was when Marcus's internal dialogue wouldn't fit the situation and felt very forced. In some situations it felt like the dialogue was very YA and very simple. I am also of the opinion that if you are a dragon rider and have the option of picking your dragons name, it should be something that is majestic and powerful. It really bothered me that some of these characters named these powerful dragons with names you would give a pet. In this story they are portrayed as a weapon but then would be named something like Tiger.
Another miss for me was the context of the story. Having Dragon's in a modern world is a fascinating idea to me but the story was solely focused on the fast and furious aspect to the point, that it missed the opportunity to world build. I was also bummed that a lot of aspects from fourth wing were present in this book.
If you enjoyed fourth wing set in modern time with the added complexity of gangs and underground crime this may be the book for you.
Who doesn’t love dragons!?
Never watched the fast and furious films but it’s not a required, if anything it meant that there were no spoilers and I enjoyed every twist and turn.
Really fun fast paced story. Super easy read to get out of a reading slump
Dragons, Yes please!!
This one is action packed and fast paced. It is on the shorter side with some hilarious banter between the characters. I love the concept of the book and the overall story.
I don't know if I would compare this to Fourth Wing. This is more of Markus infiltrating the clans and finding out who is at fault than training the dragons or going in depth on the romance. There is nothing wrong with that as the author does a good job on the infiltration piece, just don't go in thinking this is an epic romance or heavy on a dragon riding acadamey.
Why wasn't it a 5 star? With it being a shorter book it didn't have a lot of depth that makes you feel connected to it. This being a debut author will keep me interested on what they work on next.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
It's not often you see fantasy books written like this, I think it did it's job as a fantasy book, but I felt it was a little fast paced so I didn't really have a chance to form a connection with the characters.
The cover is s well done, it looks pleasing in color and is very eye-catching on the kindle as well which is a bonus for me, the writing is super well done and it flows really well, I didn't find any point in the book where I was bored and wanted to put it down so it was a nice quick read.
This was an okay story. I could seee what the author wanted to achieve and the main plot points came through.
I felt like the relationships were short and lacking connections/time to build.
I also felt the transitions needed some more character interactions and phasing in/out of scenes to feel more smooth, and less jarring.
Overall was an ok comfy quick read.
I went into this expecting something that resembles Fourth Wing, as it's being marketed as " perfect for fans of Fourth Wing, Sarah J. Maas, and Danielle L. Jensen". But was disappointed.
The book was very fast paced to the point that I feel like I didn't have the chance to connect with any of the characters or even care about what was happening within the world. This book should have added about 100 more pages simply to just slow it down and garner a relationship between the characters and the reader.
There were definitely some high points, the dragons are done well and I adored the dialogue there. There is a moving scene towards the end that I felt was done well. But the rest of the story was all lacking in connections and substance. I wish the romance in this was slower, and the insta-love felt forced with little spark.
3.5⭐️
Modern-day dragons. I love the concept of this book and had high hopes, but I feel like it kinda fell flat. The book felt too fast-paced and I wished there had been more details. In general, I feel like there could have been more to this book and that it was too short for the amount of description and world building I wanted. The romance was a little quick but still believable. I do think the last half of the book really picked up and was more enjoyable. All told, this was a pretty good book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Yggdrasil press for providing the arc in exchange for an non biased review.
This book gets promoted for fans from fast and the furious, fourth wing and Sarah j. Maas. So as I started I imagined Dwayne “the rock” Johnson riding a dragon while drifting through Seattle. The book feels very fast paced and touches multiple subjects that are important in the modern world like sexuality, racism and finding out where you belong. But because of the fast pacing it felt a bit rushed and thus so making the writing feel easy/sloppy/juvenile at times.
I realized as I was reading this that I’m just not a really big fan of fantasy stories that play out in the modern world. It makes them at least in this case feel a bit awkward.
The dialogue that was supposed to be banter didn’t really resonate with me. I think if I was a 15 year old boy it would have matched better.
I mean I really contemplated dnf’ing when the mmc was talking about girly shit to clean up with after having seks with his love interest.
Lovely story. Amazing characters. I rated it 4 stars because it isn't perfect for me, but I totally recommend it to everyone.
Fantasy Fantastic Love and Dragons. This short but intense story will open your mind and heart. The fun begins and adventure with dragon riders in school and includes topics for adults to explore and experience.
Very good job from the author to captivate and capture the audience. Thanks for the ARC
I absolutely adored this book! I finished in within 24 hours. It instantly had me hooked from the first chapter. From my love of Fourth Wing, it was very easy to grab ahold of and understand. But it is so unique in many ways! I couldn’t predict what would happen next. I would have liked more story and character building, but overall I loved this read. Hoping there will be a sequel!
This book was fast and the furious but with dragons. As a person that loved fast and the furious this missed the mark. The story line was promising but the delivery failed flat. The character were ok. There was a line in this ebook arc that made me groan. I was not a fan.
This was a good book. I really love the world building and the characters. The pacing was really good and it was an interesting story to read
