A masterfully crafted and simply riveting novel of a woman whos sister had disappeared. A perfect blend of complex characters, plot twists galore, and great psychological suspense
Title: My Perfect Husband
Author: Georgina Cross
Pub Date: May 16, 2024
I couldn’t wait to read this one since it has been getting such great reviews from others on the team at #thrillerbookloversthepulse!
Lauren and Alex seem like they have the perfect marriage. They even have an extra special bond because they both have siblings that went missing. Lauren has not stopped thinking about what happened to her sister 12 years ago and she has been praying that one day she will get the answers she needs. Then one day, that call comes and she is devastated to find out that her sister’s remains were found in New Orleans. She is even more shocked to find out that pictures were found on the body that make her question who her husband really is and whether everything she knows about him and their marriage is even true.
This book is told through dual timelines. It alternate between the present situation and Lauren and her sister, Ellie’s, backstory…All coming together to explain the mystery behind the photos. This was an addictive thriller and I found it hard to put down. There were so many questions that I wanted answers to and several twists throughout. What really happened to Lauren’s sister and where was Alex’s brother? Does Alex know more than he admits? You won’t want to stop reading until you find out the answers these questions…And then just when you finally get the answers that you have been waiting for, you will turn the last page and realize you have more questions!
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author!
Thank you to @bookouture, @netgalley, and @georginacross for this e-ARC! I’ve read two other books by Cross and could not wait to get my hands on this one, especially after seeing rave reviews from everyone at @thrillerbookloversthepulse.
Lauren and Alex are our main characters and have been happily married for 8 years. They met in college and initially bonded over the searches for their missing siblings. But Lauren and Alex have not been honest with one another and there are big secrets being hidden from the past. This book is for you if you’re looking for a domestic suspense thriller full of lies, secrets, and an unreliable narrator. Written from mainly one point of view, a lot of this book reads almost as stream of consciousness and is easy to follow along with, although the writing was repetitive at times. This is a twisty, fast paced read that I enjoyed overall. Other than that, I recommend going into this book blind because I feel like the blurb gives too much away!
My first book by this author and this is the kind of thing i need from a good old psychological/ domestic thriller
It kept me thinking about it the whole day and how the story turned it made the book even better
Alsooooooo, the writing 💅🏼💅🏼chef’s kiss in the thriller department
Thank you netgalley and bookiuture for the arc🫶🏻🫶🏻
I’m a huge fan of books that keep me guessing, and this one really nailed it for me! There were so many times I thought I had it figured out, and none of them were what actually happened.
Multiple timelines are always fun to read, but I wish the back and forth in this book was a bit more labeled. Towards the end the timeline jumps were included by the chapter, but not in the beginning. Sometimes I felt I had to re read certain things as they were not in present time in the book. Overall this is a great, quick and easy suspenseful thriller. I recommend!
If you’re seeing #MyPerfectHusband all over, that’s because we at @thrillerbookloversthepulse are going crazy for it and can’t stop raving about it!
This one had me guessing from start to finish - utterly hooked. I suspected EVERYONE - the characters were so well developed. The twists were just brilliant and I loved the dual timelines. With pacing that was just right, I couldn’t wait to get to the end.
An entertaining and twisty thriller, you’ll rattle through this one and be prepared for a “what the actual” ending…!!
4.5 stars rounded up.
Everyone at THE PULSE is raving about My Perfect Husband and the hype is certainly real. I couldn't put this one down. It was filled with surprises, a setting that felt like a character in and of itself, and a mystery that kept me guessing.
I loved the New Orleans scenery and setting, Lauren and Ellie's backstories, and the parallels between Lauren and Alex and their missing siblings.
The dual timelines worked so well here and really made it hard for me to figure out what was going on and who I could trust! The pacing was spot on - it kept me flipping pages and needing to know what would happen next.
The characters were well developed and at some point, I think I suspected every single person of something!
Overall, this was a really fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to check out more by Cross.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy.
My Perfect Husband is a story of a couple who meets at a grief group because they both lost siblings, both went missing years ago and have never been found. Alex and Lauren are married now and share the same hurt at never knowing what happened to their siblings until one day Lauren gets a call from the police telling her that Ellie's body has been found.
Lauren is send some photos from the police that were found on Ellie's body and Lauren is shocked to find pictures found with her sister are of her husband, Alex, who always swore he didn't know Ellie.
How did Alex know Ellie and why has he kept this from Lauren, is it to do with Alex's missing brother? The twists and shocks in the story are huge including one of Laurens own.
Fantastic read!
I really enjoyed this book for the first 75%, then it took an absolute nosedive into absurdity. I was invested in the case, in finding out who killed Ellie, but the ending made no sense. I’m bummed because I was really liking the book— the author’s writing style, the mystery, the setting— but the end just ruined it for me.
My Perfect Husband is a story of a couple who meets at a grief group because they both lost siblings. At the opening of the book Lauren gets the call she has been dreading ever since her sister Ellie went missing. Ellie’s body has been found. Lauren is shocked to find pictures found with her sister include her husband, Alex, who didn’t even know Ellie. This book will keep you reading because you won’t want to put it down. It’s a fairly quick read and filled with surprises and leaves you wondering who is telling the truth. A great read!!!
I loved the mystery and the start of this book however I feel it dragged out (even though it’s already quite short) and the ending was quite obvious.
The characters weren’t likeable, especially Lauren, who wasn’t as innocent as we were lead to believe but felt like she just wanted sympathy (which I definitely felt bad she’d lost her sister, however the wording throughout made me realise she wasn’t as innocent).
Would still recommend as a quick short thriller though.
I really liked this book and the plot. I like the trope of hearing about the murder or big event first, then going back and forth between past and present as it all is revealed. The story was good in the fact of figuring out what truly happened and how involved both Alex and Lauren were separately. I truly thought they were going to get away with it so I was shook at the end when the detective turns up in Chicago and has more questions and know they were involved. Great last twist.
Had me hooked from the beginning… Clear your schedule because once you pick it up you won’t be able to put it down. I loved this book and did not expect what happened at the end! I wish there was a bit more to go on at the end but I still loved it anyways. Maybe there will be a part 2! It was definitely captivating! Thank you to ARC, the author and publisher for this read in exchange for a honest review!

My thriller besties at @thrillerbookloversthepulse have been raving about My Perfect Husband in the group chat and I can see why - it’s a twisty fun read that pairs perfectly with a bevvy and a lazy afternoon.
This was my first read by Georgina Cross. I didn’t trust a single character and that’s just the way I like it! I enjoyed her writing style and the way she teased us with breadcrumbs of the truth throughout the story. Though I still have some questions for a few of the characters… 🕵🏻♀️
My Perfect Husband a fun and twisty whodunnit that will keep you guessing until the last page. It’s out May 16 and will be available on KU!
I look forward to reading more of her books!
Thank you to @bookouture and @netgalley for the gifted e-arc to read and review 🩷

It is quoted as “unputdownable” and I can def vouch for this! The twists are always coming at ya & the setting was perfection👌. I loved that at times it felt a smidgen like a hist fict(my second fav genre), but only because of how well she describes New Orleans in this book.
