A helpful guide for parents without their own counselor or care coordinator to help them through all the things that go with a mental health diagnosis for a child.
This book was helpful to me as a person who is just learning that my child likely has a diagnosis coming (we are on waiting lists). It helped me really think about what I'm observing with my child, and have a good idea of what likely is to come next. I feel like the book is especially well timed for where I am right now.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Thoughts: This book gave great overviews of the main mental health diagnosis, signs and symptoms, what parents can do and how to manage. As a parent of a child who has a few of these diagnosis, it did not necessarily give me new information that I have not heard from our pediatrician/therapist but nice to hear it again.
Thank you to Jaqueline Corcoran, Rowman & Littlefield and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This book was definitely interesting, and I think it would be useful for anyone wanting to know more about a child's mental health diagnosis. But as it is an American book, a lot of this book - a lot of the specifics - were not relevant for the UK.
So it was a good guide for some basic info - but if you are wanting more detail I suggest a UK published book.
A good basic resource for parents that provides an overview of various mental health diagnoses, types of providers/settings and parenting resources.
"Your Child's Mental Health Diagnosis" stands out for its clarity and structure, offering an approachable guide for parents delving into the often-intimidating world of child psychology. It's refreshingly free of jargon, making complex information accessible to those without a background in psychology.
