I absolutely adored this book! It's totally chick lit and you know what THAT'S OKAY!! That's what made this such a great read! I was in the mood for something like this when I started it, so I dove right in and sat back and enjoyed it from the get go!
Right off the bat we are brought into this world where our main female lead, Lena, is getting pressured to lose that innocent cherry she's clinging on to! Of course she has reservations, but with the plan her friends have for her she decides to follow along. That's where the story begins. We have some serious issues that come up and some scares that she comes across, but in between all that we also get a light fluffy read with some hilarity and complete sweet oozing out of it!! You find yourself screaming at Lena and Jake!! Come on!! JUST SAY IT!! lol They drive each other in circles and as the reader you're rooting for all these circumstances to just finally bring them together! I laughed, I cried, I giggled like a school girl reading this. I was really surprised by this one and found it to be something I could definitely read again and again. And can I just mention that cover too!! LOVE!! I love the cover! Totally fun, just like the book! Great job to the author with this romance! I find myself recommending it to all my friends! Thank you for a fantastic read! I give this book my thumbs up!
Popping the Cherry is a spine-tingly, sweet and hot, coming of age YA/NA romance. It successfully brought me back to my own teenage years and left me with a warm-glowy feeling.
Initially, after a chapter in, I wasn't hooked. I was not at all won over with the concept of how Lena's friends handled themselves. Yet, it did not take me long to appreciate Lena's character, her reaction and her inner turmoil. It got to the point, certainly by the second chapter, that my initial reaction was way off the mark. Popping the Cherry is a crackingly good read. Awesome in fact - on so many levels.
I loved the humour; it's quintessentially British. The wit, the sarcasm - I totally loved it. Likewise, the craft of Popping the Cherry reflected a skilled writer, one who is able to polish and shape a book that both young adults and grown women alike will love. This is no easy feat.
Not only does this amazing novel hold sweet romance, but it held a surprising and effective level of realism, built in with the superb tension and drama. I became so caught up in Lena's situation, that I genuinely became upset. I was deeply moved with the situations that Lena faced, and I thought the author handled these scenes with success and sensitivity.
Overall, I LOVED the characters. I LOVED the way the plot was developed and shaped. And I LOVED the ending. Wonderful job, Aurelia B. Rowl.
