The body of a man is found at the bottom of a quarry. His appearance, and physical evidence, rule out the chance he travelled there unaided: he was put there. DI Kelly Porter is tasked to investigate and soon digs up a bitter history between the two brothers who own the Cumbrian farmland that the quarry sits on. Arthur and Samuel inherited half each and have been locked in a feud that’s dragged on for decades. Privately, Kelly has other concerns about the family. Her elderly friend recently moved to a care home on the old farm that is managed by Arthur’s inscrutable wife.
The twelfth outing for Kelly & her team & another edge of the seat thriller. Whilst it could be read on its own I’d recommend either reading in order or at least reading the previous book as it gives an insight into how the team are feeling & coping in this book. The setting is very well described, the story is fast paced & the characters have depth. I always love how the author blends the professional & personal lives of the main characters – it makes them more relatable to me. There are twists & turns before things are resolved
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

DI Kelly Porter is back with a new crime to investigate. The body of the local funeral director has been found in a slate quarry - but did he jump or was he pushed? Shared Remains is a slow burner, it builds and builds the stories of the main characters, uncovering one nugget at a time. Samuel and Arthur are brothers, at odds over shared ownership of their family farm and their differing plans for the land. Add in to this a retirement home with a number of residents handing over their inheritances, and there's plenty for Kelly and her team to look into.

Kelly is also dealing with a lot in her home life as well. There are some significant revelations which rock her (already rocky) relationship with Johnny.

I enjoyed the different pace of Shared Remains; there's still plenty to keep you engaged, and the development of Kelly's story is a highlight.

Another fabulously entertaining story about DI Kelly Potter. This is a very realistic series of police procedurals and every book adds another layer to the stories of Kelly and her team as well as the solving of an absorbing mystery. Hard to read in places, but it really makes you think. Excellent read.

This series maintains as one of my favourite police procedural series and 12 books in, it is still keeping up the same excellent level.

Back with the team who are still recovering from the events in the last book, they are soon tasked with investigating the strange death of a local funeral director whose body has been found at the bottom of a slate quarry. What appears to be a pretty straightforward case at first, soon becomes an issue of a family feud that has gone on for years and reaches further than they could have anticipated.

Kelly's rollercoaster personal life is the other main part of the story and having been a big fan since the start of the series, I feel like I have been on that rollercoaster too! Currently in a dip, Kelly has to make some difficult decisions and I am now 'patiently' waiting for the next instalment to see what happens next!

I really enjoyed reading this book, which like the others in the series shows the author's depth of knowledge of the Lake District - and good knowledge and/or research is always a 'good thing' in a book for me!
It was interesting puzzling our the 'whodunnit' and 'why' of this books, which had plenty of action and was nice and twisty.
The only sad bit, for me, was the late death (I will say no more), after which I had to remind myself it was only a story, not real life.
I look forward to the next book in this captivating series!

What’s not to like. It’s Rachel Lynch. It’s Kelly Porter. An excellent addition to this series, as Kelly battles Killers and a troubled home life with Johnnny. Loved it. Fast paced, engrossing, a real page turner.

Each book on this series is better than the last. Looking forward to the next one

This latest installment to the DI Kelly Porter series sees Kelly and the team called to investigate the strange death of a local funeral director who was found at the bottom of a quarry after being missing for days beforehand. When the initial presumption of suicide is found to not be as clear cut as it seemed, things take an ever darker turn. The body was found on the land of one of two brothers with a rift that has been going on since the death of their parents. But what is the connection? As Kelly delves deeper, she finds there could be ramifications to not only the brothers, but to people closest to her.

I always really enjoy a DI Kelly Porter, I've been a huge fan of Rachel's since the first book, and I look forward to seeing the developments not only in the cases but in Kelly's personal life. Rachel tells the stories so well, and the plots are always so interesting with a mix of drama, twists and turns! This book is no different! loved it! it's such a great series, and set in a beautiful location, The Lake District. This particular story involving two brothers at war with each other was very well written, and full of some surprises along the way! The mystery of the way the body was found had me hooked from the beginning, but I had no idea where the story was going to go, or who if anyone was responsible! loved it!

Thank you so much for the ARC in exchange for my review.

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot (there are already reviews like that out there if that's what you're looking for).

I've read all the previous "Kelly Porter" novels so was delighted to receive an ARC of this latest novel!

The plot has a rather grisly start, and there's a brooding feel to the whole novel as more than one death occurs...

We see further developments in the various relationships of the main characters - and a new member of the team arrives.

As usual, I enjoyed the descriptions of the Lake District setting, and Rachel Lynch's plotting and writing style. I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in this series!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.

DI KELLY PORTER
This is a great addition to the DI Kelly Porter series. Kelly and Johny are becoming ever distant from. each other, could it be due to someone in Jonnys past arriving?? A man's body is found at the bottom of a quarry, was he pushed? Did he fall?? The team are called in, but is this case all it seems?? A small community where everyone knows each other and 2 estranged brothers 1 of which owns the quarry.. why are they estranged?
The man found is the local undertaker who had gone missing a week before, a note was found but his wife was adamant he wouldn't have taken his own life. The estranged brother were given the land by their father which on one side has a nursing home and something dodgy is going on but what??
Kelly and the team work tirelessly to solve the case, but do they?. Lots of twists, great crime thriller, highly recommend

I’d like to thank Canelo and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Shared Remains’, book 12 of the Detective Kelly Porter series written by Rachel Lynch, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Victor Walmsley the well-respected undertaker is found dead at the bottom of Morningside slate quarry. DI Kelly Porter and her team including DS Fin Maguire who’s replacing Rob Shawcross who was killed during a previous investigation, have to decide whether the victim threw himself off the edge or if he was pushed.

It’s always a pleasure to read another novel of Kelly Porter and her team as well as learning more of her personal life with Johnny and their daughter Lizzie, and although ‘Shared Remains’ caught my attention from the start I felt that it slowed during the middle only picking up again towards the end. But despite this, the final chapters where the plot comes together and the characters’ secrets are revealed more than compensates and my predictions are proved to be correct.

I love reading DI Kelly Porter books. You know you are onto a winner with a strong female lead! I feel like I'm back with family and catching up on gossip. Kelly is called in when a body has been found at a slate mine owned by Samuel Morningside. Samuel and his brother Arthur inherited the farm but their father split into two. Arthur with his wife, Beryl build a nursing home. Kelly finds out the name of the victim is Victor Walmsley, a local undertaker. This leads to the investigation becoming a murder enquiry. However, all is not how it seems and you will need to read this book to find out why.. The plot and the sub plot are brought together nicely with a satisfying climax. All in all, this was well written and the descriptions of the Lakes are fantastic. This is a page turner and unputdownable!! I will be recommending this book.

Thanks to Canelo and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an unbiased review.
I've been on the Kelly Porter journey from the first book in the series, and although I have my favourites they are all written to a high standard and in addition to the immediate case she is working on, it has been interesting to see the regular characters develop as we learn more about them.
This latest in the series is no exception to the rule, with a case to be worked upon, but sees the introduction of a new (long term ?) character into the series and the end of a long term relationship.
The case itself, if I'm being honest isn't my favourite but is well written and kept my interest all the way through.
A solid 4 stars for this one and here's to the next one Ms Lynch

The 12th book in the Kelly Porter instalment and yet again another fab read from Rachel Lynch.

A well respected local man is found dead at the bottom of a mine shaft but is it an accident or murder? What starts out as could be either soon turns into something much more sinister!

Total page turner and would recommend as a carry on to the series or as a stand-alone read.

Thank you to NetGalley for my advanced copy to read.

5⭐️

Another strong instalment in this series. I feel like I know Kelly as a character very well now so it is always nice catching up with her. I don't feel like we know the new detective yet other than that he is good looking and Irish, but I'm sure that will come in future books. I did like the addition of Mary, and her storyline was very emotional to read.

The case was interesting, but I felt that it took a bit of a backseat to Kelly's personal issues and the team dynamics this time around, and there was never much question about who was responsible, it was more of a 'why' and 'how' than a 'who'.

Overall, I would recommend this book and all the others in the series. I wouldn't say this is appropriate to be read as a standalone due to the focus on Kelly and the team.

Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo Crime for my copy of Shared Remains by Rachel Lynch.
The twelve book in the Detective Kelly Porter series.
When the body of a local businessman is found at the bottom of a quarry, it quickly becomes apparent that he was put there.
Located on farmland in Cumbria, it's up to Kelly and her team to discover what happened and how he ended up in the middle of nowhere!
A good read that moves quickly. With a new character joining the team will things go smoothly.
A great writer with an eye for detail, Rachel never disappoints.

This book is another fantastic read from Rachel Lynch. I've read most of the books in this series, if not all, and they never disappoint. I think they give enough background that they can be read as standalone books too. This one had me guessing which of the potential suspects was responsible. There were some unpleasant characters to choose from, but it wasn't immediately obvious who it was. The characters were well written and the plot had me reading it in one sitting. A great addition to my library

This is another one of my all time favourite authors. It seems ages since I caught up with Kelly and her team, and this case didn’t disappoint.

There are some really grim going’s on in Cumbria and when a local man is found dead at the bottom of a quarry, Kelly has to investigate whether it was murder or suicide. Unfortunately the deceased is estranged from his family who, as a result of a bitter feud haven’t got on for years. On his brothers half of the farmland stands a care home, where an old friend of Kelly’s has moved into. All seems great to start with, then suspicions grow as to whether all is how it seems.

There is also Kelly’s home life that has taken a turn for the worst.

This is another cracking tale, which I was sorry to finish, but I’m looking forward to the next one as soon as possible. i even recommended Rachel's Kelly Porter to ITV as a replacement for Vera! They asked for a female northern policewoman and i thought Kelly would be ideal.

My thanks to netgalley, Rachel and the publishers for the ARC.

Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley for the eARC of this, the twelvth book in the DI Kelly Porter series

Kelly and her team are called out to a quarry where the body of a local undertaker has been found. Initially it appears he committed suicide but something doesn't sit right for Kelly. Her instincts are proved correct, he had been pushed from the top. The investigation into his business leads Kelly to a private old age home owned by the sister-in-law of the quarry owner. Worryingly an elderly friend of Kelly's has just become a resident. Soon another body is found. Greed, old feuds, infidelity all play a role in the deaths. In addition to solving the murder, Kelly also has to make some decisions in her home life.

This is an excellent book but I wouldn't consider it a stand alone read. Portions of the book deal with the team recovering from the death of a colleague in a previous book, a new team member joining, and Kelly's home life crisis. The whole series is very well done and I would recommend reading some of the previous books in order to get a feel for the characters. 4 out of 5 stars.

When the body of a local undertaker is found at the bottom of a Cumbrian quarry, Detective Kelly Porter is summoned to investigate. The quarry is on land belonging to two brothers, Arthur and Samuel, and their fractured relationship is not helping Kelly in trying to discover what happened. To complicate matters even further, Kelly’s elderly friend, Mary, has recently become a resident at a care home run by Arthur’s wife and the detective has concerns about her welfare.

In this, the twelfth book in the series, Kelly encounters one of her most complicated cases so far. What starts as a suspected suicide soon turns into something much bigger as she uncovers crimes dating back many years. There is a lot going on and it is testament to Rachel Lynch’s writing that a complicated plot is easy to follow.

One of the strengths of this series is the relationship between Kelly and the other characters, whether it be with her father, Ted, or her colleague, Kate. The addition of another character, Mary, is very welcome and I loved reading how these two women, divided by age, have struck up a friendship that becomes integral to the case. I hope that we see more of Mary as it was good to read a book containing a strong elderly character.

Rachel Lynch always manages to balance the amount of time we read about Kelly’s personal life compared to her time spent at work. After twelve books, we are invested in what is happening to Kelly outside of work and the author always manages to keep this fresh.

This is a series that I am still loving and hope it goes on for a long time to come.
