Her Pretty Lies is an absolutely brilliant thriller about Kendal Good, whose life is starting to unravel. The scholarship she was given, which would pay for her course fees is no longer available. Homeless and desperate she accepts a deal with a stranger but things take a turn for the worse when someone ends up dead. And Kendals been framed for the murder.
This was such a captivating story, I really did not want it to end. I was hooked, the characters felt real and the twists just kept on coming! This book was thoroughly enjoyable and I’m so thankful to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the advanced readers copy !
This was ok. The writing I wasn’t a fan of, constantly using the words “bitch, fuck, hoe, girl bye, sis” just felt out of place in this kind of book and quite juvenile.
It took a while to get into what was going on fully but once it did it was very fast paced and entertaining. But as things got revealed I was getting more and more confused. There was so many characters and different plot lines all mixed in to one and I was kind of lost.
There was a lot of twists but felt kind of far fetched. I think it’s quite similar to how freida McFadden writes so if you like silly far fetched thrillers you’ll like this. It was an easy and fast paced read and I did find myself wanting to know what was going to happen next.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
This book was a bit of a slow burn - it took a while to take hold.
I did like this book though, there were a few twists that I didn’t see coming. Although it was all kind of wrapped up in the last couple of pages.

Kendall is a psych student
The fellowship she had that was paying her tutition and providing living arrangements falls through the same day she finds her boyfriend cheating.
Kendall is now about to be homeless, boyfriendless and kicked out of Grad school.
Mackenzie a rich social media influencer has offered to pay Kendall to sit her classes online & a place to stay because she's failing and her Dad will cut her off financially if she doesn't pass.
Then Kendall finds Mackenzie dead...
You know I love a good plot twist and this book had them in multitudes!! 🤯
It felt like a very YA thriller but I was hooked and had to keep reading.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book started like a YA thriller, with so much secrets and deceptions, and then in twists nobody had coming, went to a whole new direction! I felt like the ending would be what TV calls "jumped the shark", it was too far- fetched and made it unplausible.
Overall, I still thought this book was a fun quick read.
At first, the skipping timelines were a little difficult to follow, but once I got along in the story it got easier.
This book is full of twists, so just when you think you know the story you realize you do not.
It's a great mystery about who done it and who wronged who that will have you suspicious of every character in the book.
This is the first book that I have read by this author.
It is a great thriller that keeps you on your toes with plot twists and turns right to the end.
Normally, I can get a measure of ‘whodunnit’ in books but not with this one; so the surprises as the story unfolded just kept coming.
Now this was so good. More twists and turns then I’ve ever come across. I did not figure out a single one.
Kendall finds out she is not getting her Fellowship and scrambles to figure out how to stay in school. She finds a way but discovers fixing her a problem will only bring more problems to her life.
This was very good. I highly recommend.
This book went from 0 to 100 real quick! Kendall Good can’t seem to catch a break, starting with losing her promised fellowship that would pay for her tuition and living expenses as she pursues her Master’s degree in psychology. Now broke and homeless, things only seem to continue going downhill for Kendall. But a few days later, the IT girl at Bellbrook College makes her an offer Kendall knows she should refuse…. But doesn’t. As the story moves along, you will find that the twists just keep coming — and best of all, you never expect them!
I enjoyed Her Pretty Lies because it was a plot line that I haven’t seen done before, so it that aspect it was very unique and interesting. It was especially exciting to see how the story came full circle at the end, because in the beginning, you are wondering how the different timelines are going to tie together. One thing that kept this book from being a five star rating was that there were twists so often and the ending of the book was 1000 miles away from what you initially thought it would be about. The twists were exciting and you never knew what was coming around the next corner so that made it interesting to read and kept my attention, but I feel as though the author started at point a and ended on point X.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
What a brilliant read this was. It had so many twists and turns from the start that it had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. I loved the story and the characters. It was fast paced with lots of twists and turns. Thriller novel fans will love it. I highly recommend it.
❤️ Thank you to netgalley and storm publishing for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to get accepted for this book. Definitely had a lot of drama a little on the slower side but once you get into it, it gets better. It was definitely a good one and my type of thriller/drama read .
I was so excited to get a copy of this book! Kendall has everything, but has lost it all. An influencer comes into her life and appears to be her saving grace. The twists kept me guessing throughout the book.
Wow. This was a roller coaster from start to finish and one that I had no idea how it would end. An absolutely gripping, un-put-downable read; it had everything I want from a psychological thriller! This was one that I applied for the arc of on a whim, and I am so glad I did. This was fantastic and I am rushing to get my hands on more of Angela Henry's work.
Kendall is desperate. Her prestigious fellowship that was supposed to fund her grad school experience has been ripped from her hands - now she's homeless, hungry, and hopeless. Until she is approached by an influencer at her school with a proposition: a salary and a room in exchange for taking an online class and passing. It feels too good to be true, and when a stalker starts threatening her, she realizes it is. And when it turns out that this influencer is not only found dead but also is an imposter and fraud, Kendall is framed for the murder, and suddenly she has a lot more to worry about than a lost scholarship.
If you follow me you know I've been reading a lot of influencer mysteries recently, and not many of them have been living up to my expectations. This is the first influencer thriller that has exceeded my expectations in a looong time. There were so many twists here and I really could not predict how this one was going to pan out - I had a lot of suspects but it still managed to surprise me!
I believe this will be on Kindle Unlimited when released, make sure this is on your TBR!
Whilst there was plenty of drama in this book, I was personally disappointed. I found it dull and slow paced and difficult to want to keep reading as I didn’t particularly care for any of the main characters. I’m sure others will love it, but it wasn’t for me. Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and the author for the chance to review.
As a general note before we begin the review, please remember this is my own opinion of this book so please take it with a pinch of salt.
Her Pretty Lies is a mystery/thriller book about Kendall and how her life falls apart, from losing the Bennet fellowship, leaving her without funds to finding her boyfriend cheating on her. This is where Mackenzie comes in as Kendall's new friend.
Starting off, I would like to say what I liked about the book. The cover is simple but very beautiful, it drew me in. The genre played a small part but the description had me interested. What I love about this book as well is that it was a quick read so you could easily get this done in a day or two. I would say that chapter three was where I felt the book actually picked up and actually kept me interested. The descriptions throughout were well done and I felt like they helped us imagine the scenes well as we read.
Next up, I would like to talk about what I liked less or disliked about the book. I’m not sure where I would like to start but I will start somewhere. The prologue and the first two chapters I felt were very short (being just over a page long) and to me felt very rushed so I could not be immersed in the story. I also felt confused about how they tied together as it felt like the scenes did not go or flow well together and they were just thrown in. Each of those chapters had something different going on so we bounced from one scene to another with no real sense of cohesion. Thankfully for me I felt like the story picked up after chapter three as I mentioned above.
I appreciated the locations and sort of timestamp given through the chapters but I would say I’m personally not the biggest fan of when chapters go from third person point of view to first person point of view. I don’t mind reading them in a book like this but I would much prefer one point of view instead of both in the one book. I also noticed a few punctuation mistakes while I read.
There were a few twists and parts in the book that I felt were predictable but most of them were pretty unpredictable to me.
Overall I’d rate this book a 3.5 stars out of five - bumped up to 4 stars. This book was really good and the premises kept me hooked but there were just some things that I felt could be better.
Kendall is smart, needs money and a place to stay; Mac needs to finish the semester with good grades, has unlimited money, and has a big house. It was the start of an unlikely friendship — until Mac turned up dead and her secrets started unravelling fast…
The main suspect? Kendall.
She was being framed, but why? by who?
This was quite a slow paced book until around the last 30% when it picked up. All the characters were somehow connected, which didn’t become clear until further into the book, when everything finally fell into place. It was filled with twist after twist, with the ending being the most shocking of them all.
There was so much going on in the story, and some parts seemed to not be relevant to the main plot, that it stopped me from enjoying it as much as I thought I would.
3.5* overall
Thanks to NetGalley & Storm Publishing for this ARC.
When i started this book i found it hard to follow, different characters whos stories did not seem to weave together with the main plot - once the connections fell into place the pace picked and it became clearer.
There were many twists and turns which i appreciated.
I read this book in a day! It was slightly choppy and confusing in the first half. There are lots of characters and no concrete connection between most of them. Once the connections started falling into place, the pace picked up and never stopped! There are some unnecessary scenarios thrown in, which I feel led to more of a disruption to the flow of the storyline. There are tons of twists; some I saw coming, others that I did not. A lot of chaos unfolded when all of the twists started taking place at the same time. I began feeling a little overwhelmed and the story became somewhat unbelievable for me.
If you love murder, mystery, thrills, drama, and a dash of romance- this book is for you!
It’s such a wild ride.
This was my first book by Angela Henry. I will say the beginning was slow and there was a lot going on. By about 50% in…I was hooked. I had a few ideas on how the twists would turn but was wrong on several. This was a quick read overall and an enjoyable short thriller. Would read another by this author
You will not not be sorry choosing this book. Exceptional xxx
I could not put it down at all and would recommend it
