Her Pretty Lies… where to start… Well first off a huge thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I felt this book was a bit on the dull side. I admit there was a couple parts in the book that got my attention but for the most part the story didn’t really pull me in or attract me, This book might be your cup of tea, but it just wasn’t what I was expecting it to be.

I feel like there was way too much going on with every character and it got confusing at times. There was so many character plots and/or plans, it didn’t just follow one story line. It kind of branched off to tell a bunch of side stories at the same time.

The book is written through the perspective of both Kendall and Mac(Mackenzie). It is written in the third person point of view.

I enjoyed the relationship that seemed to blossom between Cal and Kendall but it was a very short part of the book. I would’ve loved to have had a bit more of their story intertwined in the book, with the main story.

I give this book a 3.5 star rating. I liked watching the relationship grow between Mackenzie and Kendall, but there was just too much going on and not one clear concise story.

I would give this author another try however, in the future!

Happy reading!

I enjoyed this book for the first 80%. I read it pretty quickly and was enjoying it. The last 20% felt very rushed. A bunch of “twists” were thrown together, some out of nowhere that didn’t really feel like they added anything to the story.

An interesting read that slowly built to a crescendo of one twist after another. Some things I had sort of guessed and others absolutely floored me. There was even a twist of a twist that I would never have seen coming in a million years. Super intriguing and definitely a lot of gasps to be had as I read on. Not my usual genre but I really enjoyed it.

3.5⭐️

The start is interesting, then it gets a bit confusing who is talking at some points. Then I started to piece it together. I didn’t know how it was going to end so there were some twists.

I wouldn’t call it a crazy psychological thriller. More of a mystery to be solved.

Read if you like-
- plot twists
- influencers
- a lil romance
- murder investigation
-lies
-drama

Thanks netgalley for the ARC! Publishes 5/3/24

Big thanks to NetGalley, Angela Henry, and Storm publishing for the ARC copy and chance to give my honest review!

Kendall Good finds herself in a downward spiral with a streak of really bad luck. Just when things can't get any worse, Kendall is given an offer that seems like it will turn her life - or at least her semester - around! This sets off a string of lies, death, and forgotten past! Twist after twist and so much deceit!

I loved this storyline but I did not like how the chapters bounced from 1st person to 3rd person narration. No chapter titles was a downfall also with this flip flopping. Regardless a gripping plot and I would be interested in reading more from this author!

In a remarkably short span of time, Kendall goes from being the girl who has everything, to one who has very little. At this low point, she is approached by an influencer at the place where she studies with a very questionable proposition.

Kendall knows that she could be expelled if she gets caught up in doing this. But what are her options? Against her better judgement, she explores the opportunity.

This story can be a little confusing at times, due to the multiple POV and the difficulty in identifying each character due to a structural conceit adopted by the writer (you'll know what I mean when you encounter it).

It is highly eventful and provides plenty of twists to keep the reader's interest engaged. Some parts can be a little far fetched, but if you can carry off a suspension of disbelief, you are the right person to enjoy this story!

What can I say about Her Pretty Lies except I loved it. What a real page turner that I could not put down.

Kendall Good is on cloud nine. She has a boyfriend of three years, a beautiful place to live and now she has a fellowship that will get her through her college years. Then the dam broke open. She finds her boyfriend in a compromising position with his ex girlfriend, she lost her place to live and her fellowship fell through. What will Kendall do? Try and get her library job back, go for help to her over bearing mother or just throw in the towel and drop out of school? She has lost everything or has she?

Enter an internet influencer named Mackenzie who has over heard the troubles Kendall is going through. She offers Kendall a home, money and clothes if she would take all of Mackenzie's test for her and basically be Mackenzie during her classes. Is this true, is Kendall dreaming? This would solve all of Kendall's problems, the only issue is Kendall cannot be found out. All goes well until Kendall starts getting notes saying she knows what she's doing and this can all blow up. Especially when Mackenzie is found murdered, or is this really Mackenzie. What will Kendall do?

Her Pretty Lies has many twists and turns which I love in a book. We find out the real connection between Kendall and Mackenzie.
Is Mackenzie really the good person she portrays to Kendall and how do their mothers figure into this whole situation. This was an easy read and I truly wanted to find out the whole story behind the girl's lives. What I also enjoyed was how the character Liv Kendall's good friend really throws a twist to the story, especially towards the end. Kendall does not know who to trust and the ending blew my mind.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC. Bravo Angela Henry for a very thrilling story of love, hate and reconnection. Then throw in many twists and turns and it becomes a thrilling read. I look forward to more from Ms. Henry.

Well that was twist after a twist after twist. I called a couple of things but there was plenty left in store and the story did a great job on making you guess right to the very end.

This is a twisty, suspenseful thriller that I really enjoyed. This was a first by this author for me so I didn't know what to expect but I was hooked from page one and was anxious to find out how it all came together. Every character in this book has secrets and every one of them keeps lying, you don’t know who to trust.

Kendall went from having a boyfriend of three years, a fellowship to complete a graduate degree, and a great friend and support system to being homeless, broke, and alone in a matter of a few hours. Pondering her lack of options, she's approached by a famous influencer that attends her college with an opportunity. A very shady opportunity that will lead to expulsion at minimum if she's caught. What is she supposed to do? And what happens when someone else finds out and starts to blackmail her with a very odd list of demands?

This was pretty good for a YA thriller, but there is just SO much going on. There are multiple POVs in this book, but you're given locations as to where the character is when they're "speaking," rather than a name, and it causes the opening chapters to be very confusing until you get almost half way into the book. From there, there is layer after layer added to the story to the point it's a little absurd. How many ridiculous situations can one person end up in via coincidence in the span of a few days? Everything gets resolved in rapid succession which makes it feel rushed and extra insane.

A few of the "twists" were really predictable, but I can say I didn't expect the final one! Even though the resolution at the end of it had me rolling my eyes a little and wanting more. And some of the dialogue was really cringy--if I had to read "sis" one more time I was going to roll my eyes back into my head until they exploded.

BUT I was definitely hooked and read this in one sitting! It's a fast paced and quick read without a lot of filler, and I think it's a great example of a YA Thriller. This is definitely a must read for fans of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and One of Us is Lying!

Thank you Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read an ARC of this one!

Every single character in this book has secrets and every single one of them keeps lying, you don’t know who to trust to tell the truth. This fast paced thriller is full of twists and turns, especially throughout the last part.

DRAMARTIC is the best word to describe this book. It did get a bit overwhelming in some parts as too many things were happening at once but overall I enjoyed it.

3.75 stars.*

Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for a digital ARC copy.

“Her Pretty Lies” is a thriller/mystery by Angela Henry. I really have mixed feelings about this book. It started off with a bang - Kendall seems to have life going in a great direction; she has a scholarship, she has a place to live, she’s got friends, and a boyfriend. However, like dominoes, things start falling - her scholarship is revoked, she becomes homeless, can her friends be trusted, and her boyfriend is a louse. Kendall is approached with a rather shady plan - that could end up with Kendall and the student at minimum being expelled. But desperate for a place to live and money - Kendall agrees to the plan. Then things get weird. I think every single character in this book - okay, maybe not the police and maybe not a school official - have secrets they don’t wish to have exposed. It did take me a while, with the misdirection, to figure out how the first few chapters tied into Kendall’s story. Around the 80% mark, the stories of others aligned with Kendall’s and things started happening rapid fire fast. At the beginning I did get confused as to who was who and which timeline the reader was reading. Additionally once the rapid fire section began, it really seemed like nearly anything could have been possible in this book. This was an okay read, though it did hold my attention. Two minor quibbles - not sure why nearly everyone’s race was mentioned [it really didn’t matter] and the YA vibes due to the Tik-Tok generation slang scattered throughout.

This book started out strong and quickly grabbed my attention. The author used a lot of detail to tell the story and I felt like I could vividly picture each character. However, what started out strong ended up all over the place, with so much back story and so many secrets, I had a hard time keeping track of it all. I did not find this to be a psychological thriller as categorized, but leaning slightly towards a cozy mystery after all is said and done. Looking back, the story felt more like a soap opera.

Kendall has just lost her grad school scholarship, ended her long term relationship, and lost her apartment and job when she’s offered a solution to her problems that she can’t refuse. Things are looking up for Kendall until she finds notes threatening to expose her secrets. In the middle of trying to juggle her life, she’s framed for murder. Who can she trust? Is anyone really who they say they are?

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. My first by this author. A grad student is down on her luck, the fellowship in college got cancelled. She has no money and ends up homeless. Then she meets someone willing to give her money in exchange for help. But what kind of help? I liked the diary extracts.

My Rating: 4.2 Stars

Kendall has it all – a great boyfriend, a new apartment, as well as a prestigious fellowship at Bellbrook College where she can earn her degree in psychology.
How could so many things go wrong so quickly? The Bennett Fellowship funds are no longer available. Then she finds her boyfriend Byron in her bed with his ex-girlfriend, Kayla.
Now she is being accused of a murder she didn’t do!!
Who can she trust?

She states she should have known she was hiding something. (At this point I wasn’t sure who ‘she’ was!!!)
I thought ~ ~ Perhaps I should have known! After all I do read a lot of thrillers.
Nope! I was clueless.
This indeed was a page-turner with ‘Oh! Yes! There are ‘Big Reveals’.

Want to thank NetGalley and Storm Publications for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 3, 2024.

The book was so messed up and twisted. It is filled with so many plot twists and secrets. So many unthinkable things happens and characters are complex and mysterious. Everyone was harbouring a secret in this book. This is a kind of book where you think you have figured it all out but then the plot twists will completely shock you and they won’t let you go until the end. I would say just go blindly in this book if you like an addictive psychological thriller with intrigues, suspense, secrets, plot twists and mystery. I need to check Author’s other books too.

Thanks to the Author and Publisher
