A Mooing Horse? I knew that would make for a fun book. Poor Coco who mooed was ignored by the other animals because they thought him annoying and sometimes he was so loud they'd run and hide. Till one day he heard about an audition and he thought he might become a star.
He competes and wins for his beautiful moos. So now rather than being ignored or made fun of, he is a hero and icon.
Great story to be yourself and follow your dreams with fun illustrations.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
Coco doesn't get my vote. It wasn't a great read, and the illustration was decent but nothing that blew me away. There were a lot of references in the book that seemed to be British colloquialisms and would not necessarily resonate with a global audience quite to the same extent. I found myself wanting the language to be simplified or tailored more to the target demographic. The story itself is good in the sense that it's about a horse who doesn't follow the mold and does what she wants. But some elements of the story just didn't line up. The competition, where she suddenly couldn't moo - the bee was the cause seemed unclear - was a good addition to start but not sure on how it was executed. I mean, where did Coco get the money to enter the contest in the first place? And then, what was he going to do with the pot of money at the end. And why is it being judged by animals who, again, have no use for money. Ugh.
I guess that this would be ok for a young reader but I would not go out of my way to pick it up from the store and, if I had bought it, I'm pretty sure I would have been really disappointed and not added it my collection of classic picture books. There are better stories that cover this topic. And I really wanted to like this one.
A fun book about striving for your ambitions and embracing your differences. Fun and well written with comforting and beautifully rendered illustrations.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
Cute! Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for access to a digital review copy of this title. I thought this was a great short story about taking something that makes you special and really letting it shine. The story was linear, simple to understand and entertaining. This title would be good for ages 5 and up. I enjoyed the anagram lists at the end of the book - helpful for homeschooling! The illustrations were inviting and complementary to the story. Topics were a bit too advanced for a younger audience.
The story of the moving horse was alright. My kids felt pretty neutral about the book. The lesson of being who you are regardless of what others say and following your dreams are great, but the story felt a bit convoluted.
Overall, it was a fine read, but I don't see us going back to read it again very often.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for providing me access to an ebook version of Coco the Mooing Horse.
It was a cute story with a wonderful meaning. Coco is a horse who enjoys singing and mooing, despite being put down by other animals for it. A singing contest occurs and he decides to enter it. He runs into a little issue during his performance, but doesn't give up. Up for grabs is a bag full of coins, but does he have what it takes to win the contest and prize?
In my opinion, some of the chosen words were a little advance for the age of the audience. Most children that are interested in hearing about an animal that sounds like other animals will not be able to understand some of the words in this book because they are not a part of their daily speech. The book provides a great opportunity to explain these terms and broaden their skills.

Great book! I only have one critique for this book, because I liked a lot of things about it. My only note is the anagram aspect of the book seemed a little bit confusing at first. I had to go back and read the "Note for Parents" to fully understand how anagrams related to this story.
On the other hand, I liked a lot of things about this book. The drawings were very detailed and accurately matched the text, with great, soft color.
My favorite thing about Coco, though, was the message he conveyed: Be yourself. Coco had so much confidence within himself and sang his own unique song. Even when others didn't believe in him, he still believed in himself and went on to make history. I think that this is a perfect message to spread to kids at a young age, because it is so, so important. Coco will truly become a role model for many kids.
My boys loved this book about the mooing horse. It felt like a kids silly version of American Idol with a sweet message of following your dreams.
The illustrations were great and gave my boys lots of giggles
I read this book to my 4.5 year old before bed tonight from his iPad. He loved that a horse could moo. At first he said the horse was silly for mooing, but towards the end at the signing competition, he said that he was glad the horse could moo because, he had the best voice and it let him win the competition.
An enjoyable story for children about reaching for your dreams and not letting the naysayers get you down. It was well-written and the illustrations were well done.
