This book grabbed me right from the start. The writing is easy to follow and digest, with the right amount of descriptions and character building. It was a level- paced ‘whodunit’ thriller, with twists and turns everywhere. The ending was shocking, heart breaking and gut wrenching. I absolutely loved it and will certainly be reading more by this author.

Two drowned girls. One daughter still missing. Can Freya save Isa before she becomes the third victim? Or has the killer already set their sights on Freya next?
The first in a new, totally gripping serial-killer thriller series by Amazon bestselling author Emily Shiner.

Entertaining and gripping thriller with some twists. Very much enjoyed the narrator. This made my commute incredibly more enjoyable. I wish there was more background to Freya’s story, but I do realize this is book 1.

Detective Freya Sinclair returns to her small home town, five years after the scandal which saw her arrest her serial killer parents. Freya is immediately thrown into a case of a murder of a young girl, which quickly escalates when more girls go missing. Freya is forced to race the clock to solve the case, whilst dealing with neighbours who harbour resentment about her past mistakes.

This was a chilling and engrossing, well paced read. I finished it in two sittings, and enjoyed the character development and twists and turns. Freya was strong and determined, but had a level of vulnerability which was refreshing, and I really enjoyed her dynamic with her official and unofficial team.

The interwoven narrative of the present day case, Freya’s memories and the echoing repercussions of her past mistake was compelling. While we got a lot of insight into the mistake, and Freya’s family history, I still have questions, and I’m looking forward to picking up the next book to learn more.

I really enjoyed the character voices in the narration, and thought the narrator did a wonderful job of portraying their emotional experience. I’d highly recommend the audiobook production of this story.

Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

ARC REVIEW:

Thank you so much to @netgalley @authoremilyshiner and @bookouture for the advanced audio copy of Three Drowned Girls!

This was my first book by Shiner and I can tell you I will be reading & listening to every other book she has published 🤩 I’m a sucker for mystery & thriller audiobooks for my daily work commute and this book fit the bill.

Detective Freya Sinclair returns to her small hometown years after a mistake involving both her career and personal life and is immediately thrown into a complex case. From bodies found in local bodies of water to reports of young girls who haven’t been seen in a concerning amount of time, Freya is pulled deep into an investigation with many twists and dead ends. It is a race against the unknown to find the missing girls before more of their bodies are found.

I enjoyed the mystery woven between Freya’s current case and the one that led to her leaving town years before. The characters were interesting and the story had me hooked from the beginning. I look forward to the next installment in the series and maybe finding out more about Freya’s past as well as seeing how the potential romance with a certain new resident may progress 👀

Just finished and requested One Liar Left! Really enjoyed book 1 and can't wait to read what's next for Freya and Candy. There are parts where their banter was a little much but overall, I was engaged the entire time and finished it in a day!

Thank you to Netgalley and Emily Shiner for this opportunity in exchange for an honest review!

This book was slower than what I normally choose to read but I still enjoyed it.
Detective Freya Sinclair is back in her hometown years after the events that saw her family torn apart.
With young girls going missing and turning up dead, Freya is on the hunt to find the killer(s).
The plot was slow moving but with enough action to keep me interested and guessing.
I listened to this on audio and was impressed with the narrator.

Freya Sinclair moves back to her small hometown in North Carolina after having left 5 years ago after the shocking discovery that her parents were serial killers. On her first day back in fawn lake police department, she is immediately assigned a case of a young girl found dead in a river in the local woods. Freya jumps headfirst into the case whilst still getting a frosty reception from the locals who have not forgotten the past. Upon investigating this poor girl’s death, it is clear there more going on in fawn lake and other girls are missing. It’s a race against time to figure out what’s going on before the other girls are found dead.
I loved the plot. it was gripping, it was atmospheric. Very character driven. I was hooked straight from the start. It was fast paced with out being rushed. I do wish we found out more about Freya’s past and her parents. Id love to know what circumstances lead to Freya deciding to leave Fawn Lake, more about her upbringing and her parents. Whilst we got enough to just understand, its clear that there saving more info for the series ahead. The side characters were likable. The teams very own Candy and Brad have a lot of potential and worked well alongside Freya’s strong personality, and we can’t forget Esther our lovable guardian/ grandmother figure. The descriptions were not overly gruesome and gory. I would have like to hear more in-depth detail about the case but I am a true crime fan so that just one thing that I’m interested in I can’t wait to carry on reading and see what the next instalment of the series has in store for us.
I was given this advanced copy as an audiobook. The narrator was extremely easy to listen too. Noticeably clear, very easy to understand. Very easy to get immersed in the story the accents used were fairly convincing even if they felt a bit stereotypical at times, but it did help immerse you in to the plot.
Thank you for the advanced copy of the audiobook from Bookouture via NetGalley all opinions are my own.

I will be the first to tell you I'm not a fan of series. However, sign me up for book two! I'm also not a big thriller fan, but I couldn't put this one down. The story kept me glued to my earbuds long past when I should have been in bed or working. I will be adding this to my library for my patrons in book form. They'll love it and I can't wait to see what else Shiner has to offer in this series!

Three Drowned Girls
Emily Shiner

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is one of many books that I've read by this author now and I've loved them all so far.
I'm at a point where I don't really even think about it, I spot the author name and just automatically grab as I know that I'm going to be getting a great read!

This book however, was a slightly different read as it is actually the first in a series - featuring Detective Freya Sinclair.
All the previous books have been standalones and so I was intrigued to see whether this would have a similarly good narrative and premise as my previous reads.
And I can confirm, that this was brilliant!

Freya was an amazing character to get to know.
Coming back to her childhood town after having previously fled - we don't know why yet - she was thrown into a tough case, dealing with one drowned girl.
As the case progresses it becomes more complex and it was great to see the way that Freya and her small team pulled together.

On top of this we have a couple of great side stories running, that of an attack on property and the rumbling in the background of the reason Freya left town.

I think these stories were woven together nicely and the story flowed keeping everything clear and concise.
The backstory for Freya was super intriguing and although lots more was revealed, I'm certain that there will be more to come on this in future books.

I love Emily's writing style which always grabs you in from the start of the book and keeps the tension high throughout, not leaving you with any lulls in the action.
This was a bit of a longer read than the usual quick reads I'm used to, but had the same ability to keep you immersed.

This storyline had me guessing almost to the end - I'd worked out some of the plot just before the reveal, but was still theorising the full why and exactly who.

I believe that book 2 in this series is already written and will publish the same day - I know for sure that it will be going on my TBR list immediately! I can't wait to read.....

💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

I listened to Emily Shiner's audiobooks before and for me, I didnt like it quite as much.
Three young girls have been found drowned and others gone missing and there is a connecting factor, the parents of these children are behaving bizarrely.
Amelia Sciandra did a good job as narrator and kept the story going. I hope the 2nd book will be faster paced however I did enjoy it.

Three drowned girls by Emily Shiner was a gripping thriller.
Freya Sinclair is an officer of the law who moves back to her small town after a huge scandal involving her serial killer parents made her move away. She is determined to prove herself while helping solve the case of girls who have gone missing.
This was a great read. With a major twist you wouldn’t see coming.

Thank you to Emily Shiner, Bookouture and Netgalley for the ALC!

When Freya Sinclair was a young girl, she had no idea what her parents were hiding in their basement. Decades later, she returns to her hometown of Fawn Lake, now as a detective but some of the residents can’t separate her from her troubled family life. Shortly after Freya arrives, the body of a young girl is found in the river. Before Freya even can identify her, another girl goes missing. Then a third is found drowned. Two drowned girls, one missing…can Freya find her before it’s too late?

I love a good police procedural! It was cool getting to be in Freya’s head as she tried to get to the bottom of things and find the missing girls. The pacing was just right, and the story flowed easily from one event to the next. I do wish there was more background included on Freya’s childhood and parents, since it shaped so much of her life and the way she did things, but since this is the first in a series I’m hoping we can see a bit more in future books? Narrated by Amelia Scianra, “Three Drowned Girls” was fabulous on audio!

This review will be shared to my instagram blog (@books_by_the_bottle) shortly :)

Loved this thriller audiobook! The narrator was amazing and completely sucks you into the story.

I love how fast paced the story was and there was never a dull or boring spot in the story.

Detective Freya Sinclair returns to her hometown in NC. This small sleepy town doesn't seem to be so quiet with 6 yo girls start to go missing. Complete page turner. Can't wait to listen to book 2.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookcouture for the ARC!

Book Title: Three Girls Drowned

Format: 🎧
Narrator; Amelia Sciandia
Publisher: Bookouture Audio
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: April 22, 2024
My Rating: 3 Stars

Captain Freya Sinclair works in her small hometown’s police department when there multiple reports of missing girls and drownings.
Freya Sinclair became a police officer as she wanted to bring serial killers like her parents to justice. However, worries this small North Carolina community will remember only her past.

The story kept me interested. However the audiobook performance did a decent job performing some of the characters however her voice was a distraction when she performed Freya. 
There is a teaser at the end for [book: One Liar Left] Book #2. Which I am considering reading!

This is my third novel by Emily Shine]. When I read my first "The Secret Wife" my comment was that it was better than expected!
I was looking forward to this story. It wasn't a big Wow but I did like it

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this early audiobook.

First in the series of Freya Sinclair novels. Captain Freya Sinclair has returned to her hometown and previous job just in time to notice a pattern of local little girls going missing. Her and her team are on the case to figure out what's happening to these missing girls and why.

This is my first Emily Shiner novel and I loved it. It's a great beginning to a series I will definitely continue. I enjoyed the character development of Freya and the little pieces of her past that were given throughout the book.

The audio accent was great, it added character to the story. It was not too heavily accented and made it very enjoyable to listen to.

I look forward to reading the next in series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A disturbing book about child murders. If you are easily upset you won’t want to read this, but it’s actually not too graphic despite the horrible subject. A good read with good characters

A riveting psychological thriller that follows Detective Freya Sinclair's harrowing journey back to her hometown, where she must confront her troubled past while racing against time to catch a killer before they strike again. With its tense atmosphere and compelling twists, this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Fantastic book!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my review.
This was actually a really enjoyable listen, the narrator did great. I find myself struggling with cop thrillers only because I work in law enforcement and I tend to call out any discrepancies, but even with the minor discrepancies I enjoyed this one and didn’t figure out the outcome until the final 25% of the book, I will definitely keep my eye out for more from this author.
