Not getting it right the first time isn’t just fine, it’s different rainbow fine!
Ploof's reactions to a challenge and its struggles show us its OK to have feelings and encourages us to keep exploring. I love that Ploof and the narrator break the fourth wall and include us!! Sometimes mistakes aren't mistakes at all. Instead they turn out to be fun, new ways to express our ideas.
Thanks to NetGalley for sharing this DRC with me for an honest review.
Ploof is back again with a fun artsy interactive book for young kids! Ploof covers shape identification, color identification, color mixing, emotions, self-regulation (deep breaths!), imagination and helping others. This is a really fun interactive book because it really makes you engage with the story. Plus who wouldn't want to help a cute cloud like Ploof.
This book is a lot more interactive than I had thought it was going to be! With that being said- this book would be great for readers ages 5+. The colors and art of the book will keep the reader engaged. The book also covers art and colors in an educational way, such as color mixing. I'd love to use this book for a storytime about colors or clouds.
Very cute and gentle book which allows children to be interactive with the story. There are a couple pages that talk about color combinations to make a new color. The big message of this book is that even if things don’t turn out the way you wanted or planned for them to they can still be beautiful! Very pretty pastel colors in the illustrations.
Ploof is a young cloud who is learning how to paint his first rainbow. Painting can be difficult, but after some initial struggle Ploof tries. The art work in this book is darling and will captivate young readers. I loved the little mental health elements snuck into the story. The reader comforts Ploof when he is sad, and says "It's ok to cry. We all feel sad sometimes." Ploof calms down with some deep breathes and takes another look at his first rainbow. A great book with growth mindset and problem solving elements. A solid five stars for me.
I am in love with Ploof! This is an adorable story about a cloud learning to create its first rainbow. The reader is invited to interact with the book by touching, call and response, and acting out different things. This makes for a perfect library storytime pick or a new bedtime favorite. I like the socioemotional undertones and the engaging. whimsical illustration style. 5 stars and I will definitely recommend for purchase!
I had the pleasure of reading the Arc! Thank you so much to Penguin Random House, the Author, and Illustrator!!
I am picky when it comes to rating children books. This book however deserves a solid four stars. This is one of the better books I have read this year. I did not expect it to be that interactive! It was a complete blast and I think all children would love this book. It does a great job of keeping the child interested. The children are asked questions that give them the opportunity for critical thinking and creativity. Even at the end, the child is told to find something and to scratch it. How fun!!
In addition to it being interactive- I enjoyed when the cloud was upset and was able to use a breathing technique to stay calm. That is a valuable tool for navigating life's up and downs. Especially when young and processing big emotions.
The cherry on top was the simple, to the point, and adorable illustrations. It was not overwhelming what so ever (I feel like many books are like that nowadays).
If your child has trouble sitting still / staying interested long enough to finish a book, I would give "Paint with Ploof" a try!
What a fun and creative way to teach colors to children. In this adorable story we follow Ploof as we learn all about colors and creativity. We even learn about trying new things, dealing with feelings and learning to breathe and become calm. Your family will enjoy the simple illustrations that really show the point of the story. It is a perfect book for an early childhood classroom. Enjoy with your little ones.
This was a very cute children’s book that covered emotions. I loved that it showed to practice deep breathing!
#Ploof is such a lovely story of a cute little cloud who needs a little help and resilience to make a rainbow. Lots of great early vocabulary and engaging pictures to develop early language. Love how the cloud uses breathing exercises to calm down.
The illustration is beautifully done with lot's of scope for discussion and interaction.
I will definitely be buying a copy for our school, when this book is published and can't wait to see the other books in this lovely series.
Thank you @NetGalley_UK and @PenguinCanada
Another fantastic Ploof book! The perfect mix of imaginative and interactive with art to make you smile. These books are a must have for the toddlers that like to interact with a story. Another swing and a hit from Ben Clanton!
An interactive book about emotions and coping mechanisms, with a fun and cutely illustrated mascot named Ploof. Ploof is a cloud, and in this book Paint with Ploof, he wants to make his first Rainbow. Each page interacts with the reader, asking the reader for feedback and to help with different actions that contribute to the story. As a librarian, my Storytime benefits from books like these because they help librarians engage with the audience, and it makes it especially easy for younger readers with short attention spans. The illustrations are calm, and the skills that are taught in this book can help children cope with stressful situations. I hope we can have more books like this!
We LOVE Ploof at our library so I'm super excited to see this book in circulation come October/November. What a fun story and Ploof is amazing. I'm obsessed! Perfect for fans of Mo Willems characters too!
Awwww! I love Ploof, this cute cloud! As read it aloud to my son, he liked to help Ploof and shout out what the shapes are etc. the interaction I had with him while reading this book was fun!
Thank you, Penguin Randon House Canada and NetGalley, for this ARC of Paint with Ploof written by Ben Clanton and illustrated by Andy Chou Musser! I am a huge fan of these two!
Let me start by saying I recently met this author and illustrator at the ALA conference in San Diego and got the first Ploof signed by both of them! Ben and Andy are the sweetest people; meeting them was such a privilege! When I returned from my trip and logged into NetGalley to see a second book in this series, I was very excited! The Ploof stories are interactive read-alongs that allow the young reader to feel like they are a part of the story with Ploof the Cloud. The story is imaginative, creative, and hands-on! My younger students love it when I read these kinds of books because they become invested in the story and the emotions of the characters. I really enjoyed this second book because it talked about how we navigate our emotions and gave breathing techniques for the reader and character. Such a wonderful addition to this interactive story! The wording was sweet, and the illustrations were wonderful, as always.
This book, in particular, is similar to Hervé Tullet's Mix it Up! If you are a fan of that book, you'd love this one as well! I look forward to adding this book to my school's library in October 2024! My students will be so excited! I hope to see more stories in this series, maybe one related to animals or plants forming in the clouds! Thank you again for this ARC!
Ploof is such a wonderful fun friend! I loved the first Ploof book and have used it for storytimes many times. I will certainly be using this one as well! Ploof wants to make a rainbow but doesn't have quite everything they need. Interactive panels mean the reader can help pick out a rainbow shape and even mix colors together to complete the rainbow. Ploof also allows for some great social-emotional learning moments, giving readers techniques to calm down and feel better when things don't quite work out the way they imagined them to. Paint with Ploof is a wonderful companion to the first book and hopefully not the last we see of this cute cloud.
This childrens book tells the story of a cloud who wants to paint his first rainbow. When it doesn’t go quite as he expects, he cries, takes a deep breath and then starts over again. The breath and crying represent wind and rain but are also a reminder than feelings are ok but we can use strategies to help calm ourselves. The font his huge, and is a dark colour on plain white background. While this is likely written for very young children, I could see myself reading it in art class when explaining to my students that making mistakes in art is common but that we can keep trying to make something beautiful. I think this would be a fabulous addition to my classroom library and could definitely see myself reading this to my class. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this beautiful book.
An absolute delight of a picture book, perfect for both an active toddler story time or a one on one read aloud. The colorful but soft edged illustrations combine with the engaging text to invite the child into the world of the book, encouraging them to examine the illustrations and participate in the action. Fantastic for visual and auditory learners alike, this book will shine in any library collection. Paired with a finger painting craft or perhaps a bubble machine and rainbow song this one is sure to be a hit. Thank you to NetGalley for access to this fantastic arc!
Ploof is my favorite character in a kid's book. He's so precious!
I love the lessons in this book: learning about shapes, how colors mix together, how it's okay to feel sad sometimes, etc.
I can't wait to read this one to my story time kiddos!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I received an electronic ARC from Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley.
Ploof is a delightful character that interacts directly with readers along with the narrator. Both encourage readers to help Ploof paint a rainbow for the first time. I appreciate Clanton showing how hard it is to do something for the first time and to not give up when things don't go as planned. Ploof keep trying and creates all sorts of beautiful things with his paintbrush.
An engaging read for younger readers. They are encouraged to create themselves and support others too.
