This book has incredibly cute, endearing illustrations, and it includes interactive elements as Ploof learns to paint his first rainbow. There's a solid story arc in addition to the little things for kids to do as they read, and the book has a great message about accepting mistakes and persevering when you're learning a new skill.
This was a really cute and fun read!
We loved it being interactive, and really showcasing some good techniques to handle emotions.
A fun educational book!
An endearing story as Ploof teaches a bit about colors and shapes while also teaching us that it’s ok to be yourself.
I am a big fan of the first Ploof and this one also hit the mark. I loved the mindfulness component which I feel will be so helpful to little ones to connect with in their own mindfulness journey. I wish the book was slightly shorter but I enjoyed the process in explanting what trying a new thing looks like.
Very interactive and cute! Could very easily be used in a storytime or classroom setting to help teach colors.
THIS.BOOK.IS.PRECIOUS!!! Perfect for the preschool and Kindergarten kids, the second book in the Ploof the cloud series covers shapes, colors, mixing colors, emotions while being so inviting to little ones. I especially love the inclusion of Clanton’s Narwhal (and caticorn) since our family are major fans. We will definitely be getting a copy of this book for our home library and our preschool’s library!
Super cute! We will definitely be adding this one to our collection and I look forward to reading this one at story times.
Aw, I love the message that Ploof is sharing with young readers. Ploof lets us know that it is okay to feel overwhelmed and to not succeed when we try something new. We also get to see Ploof keep trying and have fun with the new skill that they are trying to learn.
I loved all of the drawings that Ploof makes at the end of the book and how interactive Ben Clanton made the story.
ARC provided by Netgalley. Thanks!
Paint with Ploof is an adorable little picture book with interactive moments for children to act upon. The artwork is simple and lovely and conveys the message of what is happening in the story.
A great book to be read out loud, so you can instruct children to either answer the little questions or actions needed to be done.
My young children, age 4 and 7, both enjoyed it and laughed a lot at one point in the story.
A must have if you enjoy the Narwhal and Jelly series. There's a surprise appearance too!
What a lovely little story about colors, weather, and feelings. I loved the interactive element and I think any toddler would have a blast with this colorful tale.
My rating guide:
1- Hated it, don't read this
2- Not for me, you might like it
3- Very good! Add to your long list
4- Loved it, you need to read
5- NEW FAVORITE!!! READ IT NOW!
The Ploof books never disappoint! The interactive nature of this book makes it the perfect storytime or bed time read. In this installment Ploof wants to make their first rainbow. Ploof gathers the colors and teaches the audience how to mix primary colors to get secondary colors. My only complaint is that in the arc the colors are not listed in rainbow order, if it is not changed you could ask the child that you’re reading to to name the colors in order or when you get to the rainbow page you could point to the colors in order and have them list them to you. This book would be fun to read before a rainbow art program with young kids. I will be purchasing a copy for my library.
This is such. Wonderful book full of colors and imagination. This book explores first times, being ok with feeling your feelings, and imagination. It’s beautiful and has plenty of illustrations to co time dialogue with a child beyond just the text itself. What a wonderful book that tells you it’s ok to be sad sometimes and feel those things and to give space to process.
Cute book that will make any child smile.
You get to help Ploof figure out how to pain a rainbow and see the surprise at the end.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I adore Ploof!
I loved reading the first one with a class of mine and cannot wait to share this one with those kiddos next school year!
This is adorable and interactive. The use of colors and rainbows is super cute and I know my students will love it.
Thank you to Net Galley, Tundra Books, and Penguin Random House Canada for the eARC!
Simple text and colorful illustrations follow Ploof through his journey of making a rainbow for the first time. This interactive picture book has readers helping along as Ploof finds the perfect shape for his rainbow, selects the appropriate colors, and supports Ploof when things don’t go exactly as planned. Ploof learns that sometimes trying new things can be hard and it’s okay to feel sad, but with a couple deep breaths you might see things in a different light.
THOUGHTS: This simple, fun story will have younger readers waving along with Ploof, answering questions and finding shapes throughout the text. There is even a nod to Clanton’s other well loved character Narwhal. This is a sweet picture book about trying new things and feeling your feelings when things aren’t perfect the first time. The story also provides messaging that what you create is uniquely you. Paint with Ploof is suitable for ages 2-5.
Ploof is back and this time Ploof is trying to make a rainbow. Equally interactive as the first book, this one also introduces concepts of mixing colors to make a new color and how to work through frustration when things don't go your way. A fun story to read aloud with a group of kids!
A cute book about a cloud, Ploof, who has to paint a rainbow for the first time. This was very cute! I especially loved the illustrations
Another winner from Ben Clanton and Andy Chou Musser! Adorable Ploof works through some struggles and big feelings when trying something new. Great modelling for young readers and a fun, interactive read aloud. A must for all kindergarten classrooms
I won’t lie, I went into reading Ben Clanton’s PaInt with Ploof with very low expectations, thinking it would probably just be a fun and silly book about a cloud painting. But my oh my, was I quite pleasantly surprised by the unique story and uplifting teaching moments present in the short story.
I really think this is one of the better children’s books out there, one that will be exceptional for kiddos who have trouble dealing with their emotions. The story follows Ploof on his first journey to make a rainbow, taking the opportunity to teach a little bit about colors before things go a little awry for the tiny cloud.
The artwork was beautiful and exciting the whole way through, leaving ample opportunity to turn this read into a chance to learn about and engage in some painting along the way!
This is definitely the sort of book I would love to read to my kiddos one day.
I enjoyed this book - It has the same vibes as "Crunch the Shy Dinosaur," which I read regularly in my preschool drama classes. While the plot maybe isn't... the most adventurous? it still would capture little ones' attention by getting them to speak, wave, think about color mixing, and discussing others' feelings. It's cute!
