As a minor-league Swifie (I listen to the songs and I’m going to the concert but that’s as far as I go), I found this book really interesting.

It’s obviously about Taylor Swift and her fans. It’s both a personal love letter and a social commentary. I learned a lot about fandom, both the positive and negative aspects of its culture and the impact it has on people.

Timed to link in with the UK leg of Eras Tour, it gives a potted history of Taylor Swift’s career, some of the major events of her life both public ally and privately and explores the way she has built her fan base, but also how they have shaped her.

The writer is knowledgeable and has done a lot of research so that the analysis isn’t just limited to Taylor. I found the details out how the celebrity gossip market has changed and its symbiotic relationship with fans absolutely fascinating. As someone who poured over gossip mags in the late 90s/early 00s, it’s interesting to see how much has changed so quickly.

The book covers the break up with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy, but stops before her Travis Kelce romance.

Taylor land moves on quickly and the release of The Tortured Poets Department anthology and some of the songs add interesting insights into themes explored in the book such as fame, privacy, and criticism of Taylor’s relationships.

Whether you are new to Taylor Swift and looking to catch up so it all makes sense, or a long-time fan, there is something in this book for you.

Visually it is interesting with lots of art and beautiful quotes. The chapters are clearly divided so you can sip in and out. An easy and timely read that will help fill the Eras gap in your life.

A swiftie history book!

This book is both a modern day look into Fan culture and how it has evolved.as well as a love letter to Taylor Swift.

This book starts by looking at Taylor's career and how it has evolved alongside her fans before delving a bit deeper into fan-culture as a whole. It's a great read if you're a swiftie and want to learn (or reminisce) more about the swiftie-evolution and what it means to have a constant role model in the form of a celebrity.

I wouldn't really call this a companion for the era's tour as advertised, more a companion to Taylor in general and her fans. It reads slightly like a personal memoir of the Author at times but is overwhelmingly a recap of Taylor and her fans so far. There is one chapter on the Eras tour, but this is mainly recounting what has happened to date.

Thankyou to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have only recently discovered Taylor Swift as my 9 year old has just started to listen to her. So I found this book informative and I liked that it was not just about Taylor Swift it was about the fandom as a whole.
You could tell it was written by a fan I think this really added to the narrative.
I found it interesting looking at the fandom from the outside, as I like certain music and artists but I don’t love any of them enough to this degree. I can remember being obsessed with Buffy in my teens though so I can still remember how encompassing it can be, and it was enlightening to see how much has changed with the rise of social media.
As a parent I hope this will help me with sharing the excitement when either of my children become a big fan of something or someone!
