I'll start with the good points:
- A good idea for a story - integrating mediumship and psychics with mental illness and grief
-Some genuinely creepy parts
-Yorkshire as a setting - makes a nice change from London!
Unfortunately, the execution left a lot to be desired.
The characters were very erratic in both their behaviours and how they are described - their motivations, actions, beliefs etc swing wildly between scenes from one extreme to the other. I was always confused about who I was supposed to be supporting and believing.
Didn't enjoy this overall unfortunately.

Spooky, gripping, tightly knitted and well plotted. A page turner that kept me hooked and turning pages
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The synopsis had me so looking forward to this book and when i seen i had a review copy i was so excited to get right into it.
I was lost from page one and just had a tough time staying with the story. It was a confusing read for me and had a very had time keeping up with what was happening.
This was a slow paced book and i just didn't think this was for me. I just couldn't connect with the story.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
I enjoyed How to Read Ghost. There are scary events that make for an awesome thriller. The storyline is unique and the writing is addictive, so be prepared to not put this book down until the completion..
I was really intrigued by the blurb and loved the cover, so couldn't wait to dive into this one. Unfortunately, I struggled with it from the opening pages... I had a tough time keeping the story straight in my own head for some reason, and kept feeling like I was losing the threads of where things were supposed to be heading and having to backtrack - but not in an overly-complex-have-to-keep-it-straight way, but instead a what-the-heck?! one (never a good thing). It felt like the pacing was slow and uneven and I just couldn't connect to the story or characters. This one wasn't for me...
Really wanted to like this book, and I think it had great potential, however it was slow in parts and at times confusing with the different storylines intertwinning. I think if it was stripped back a little, more horror and quicker paced it would have been great. The idea was there, loved the characters though!
The blurb for this read appealed to me massively, sounding so different to the usual tropes in my go to genre of thriller & mystery etc. So I was keen to get stuck in. If your interested in spirits, mediumship and the afterlife then this is definitely a book for you.
The beginning pages take us through Ollie being at his Mum Miranda’s funeral but he can hear her voice shouting to him about “finding the letter”, Ollie is with his Uncle Dominic who just tells Ollie he is high as he has took some medication to help him get through the funeral. As Ollie finds out more about the “sight” that his uncle was blessed with from his Nana he starts to question the truth about mediumship and starts to study the gift.
This is a YA read with thriller elements, not scary or creepy, but very cleverly written and an enjoyable read
