The Complete ADHD Parenting Guide for Boys is a decently informative resource that helps to answer a lot of questions and address the frustrations that come with having a boy with ADHD. The case studies didn't really resonate with me but I did find some helpful advice throughout this book. The chapter addressing all of the different medications available was especially helpful.
This book was helpful and had lots of good information, but there are other ADHD books that are easier to read and more succinct (ADHD 2.0) is my personal fav) .
Great book for me to help and understand my struggling 15 year old. A complete eye opener that made me a better mother and advocate for someone who has so much trouble with day to day tasks and helped boost his confidence to cope and understand and not feel alone!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the arc of this book.
This book was really helpful for me as I have a son who was newly diagnosed with ADHD. It gives great tips on how to deal with certain situations, and gives lots of insight into the illness.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of the book.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. I have adhd and want to be prepared for if my kids get diagnosed as well. We have been seeing a lot of the signs in our 6 year old son and this book was extremely validating for us on our journey. I recommend this book for those who suspect adhd or who have already gotten the diagnosis. It was a great read.
Having a son diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 7, I have done a lot of research to learn more about it. I am always looking for new tips and tricks to share with him to help give him all the resources he needs to help with every day life. This book is one of those resources. It provides a wide range of information crossing different age levels. If you have a son with ADHD, I highly recommend this book.
This book was fantastic. It came along at just the right time as my son was diagnosed with ADD. This book really helped guide us along a good path and was super helpful
As a boy mom with boys of ADHD this has so much information in it that I never knew. I always love to learn Ned things and this was no different!
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book!
As a mother of a child with ADHD right at the beginning of this journey, this book has made me understand afew things that I wasn't actually sure about. It has learnt me more about ADHD and how I can help my child in a positive way.
I was so excited when I saw this book. My son was diagnosed with ADHD and medication has not been working for him. As someone who also has ADHD, I did find this helpful for myself as well.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book!
As a mother of a child with ADHD this book opened my eyes to so many trust. As well as solidifying things we have questioned and wondered.
If you are curious to learn more about adhd or have a child signed with ADD, pick up this book!
I have combined type ADHD myself and with a son who has inattentive type, I thought this book might be more helpful than others. I honestly was not impressed. I didn’t really feel that the information was anymore helpful than anything else I read or that it was exclusively geared towards boys. The mindset that boys almost always have combined type is an irritating trope, b/c inattentive type boys like my own tend to be harder to diagnose. I didn’t really find any helpful tips or suggestions beyond CBA therapy is helpful, medication alone isn’t enough. Which honestly I already knew, but for those who are knew to a diagnosis, that would be good advice to pursue. I personally wasn’t a fan of this book and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I know.
I think all struggling parents that want to understand their child should read this. I knew a lot of the information, I was expecting more detailed information national but it was a good reminder for me. And would be good for new parents with children with ADHD
As a parent with ADHD myself and a 4 year old son who I and his nursery suspect to have ADHD also this book has been helpful, I have enjoyed reading this and recommended to a friend in a similar situation to me to have a read.
Thank you- it’s some days are tough and overwhelming so this book has made me realise I am not the only overstimulated mum with a chaotic, impulsive and energetic little boy who quite simply can’t help it.
⭐3.5 stars⭐
First of all, let me start by saying that I am a licensed clinical psychologist who primarily conducts psychological evaluations with individuals with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, etc.
Overall, this book had accurate information and very useful tips for parents with boys diagnosed with ADHD (as the title suggests). I do plan to suggest many of these tips to parents that I work with.
Some things that lowered my rating:
1. Typos and formatting issues. There was some information that was incorrect like Michael Jordan being one of the greatest "footballers" of all time" or "ADHD is now one of the most extensively studied childhood competitions" (rather than conditions).
2. I understand this book primarily geared toward boys with ADHD, but it would have been nice to see some gender inclusivity with parents. For instance, the author kept writing "moms and dads" throughout the book rather than "parents." Also, what about transgender individuals and ADHD? That is a huge area that is emerging, as many individuals who think that they have ADHD might actually be experiencing gender dysphoria or some other associated diagnosis.
Thank you to NetGalley, QC Harmony, and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read and listen to advanced readers/listener copies of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book is a good entry point for parents of an ADHD child right after the diagnosis. With many chapters, the book tries to include all ages and situations, with examples and case studies. However, this leaves each sub-chapter very short and lacking detail. Overall, a good birds' eye view of the topic. I would treat it as a launch pad into more research. I appreciated the bonuses included with the book.
Good book with some helpful suggestions. Especially useful for this just starting out on this journey.
Excellent book, highly recommend!
Great guide to parents who have boys with ADHD. Many good tips to help at home and school.
As a parent of two teenage, neurodivergent children, this book is a brilliant introduction to parenting, understanding and managing the many challenges that you can face.
As well as being a parent, I work in a school with children with additional needs and found the strategies and tools very helpful both at home and in the workplace.
Excellent book, highly recommended.
Thanks to netgalley, the author and the publisher for providing this book to review.
This user friendly workbook has understandable explanations and suggestions that work. This covers that very difficult time of puberty and all the negatives that are maximized by the perils of ADHD. An excellent tool for parents.
I requested and received a temporary EARC from BooksGoSocial vi NetGalley.
