What a terrific crochet book for making little crocheted animals.
The author has taken the time to explain precisely, and had photographed beautifully, all of the parts of a crocheted animal. She has given tips and patterns as well. A short book but a definite keeper..
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me this ARC.
First off, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy in exchange for an honest review!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the designs of these amigurumis. I've been trying to teach myself how to crochet amigurumis for awhile now, but its been so intimidating! Amigurumi Friends has really easy to follow and understand instructions, and if that's not enough, there's QR codes that link to a Youtube video you can follow along with to learn the basic stitches.
The author really breaks it down step by step and made me realize that it's really not as hard as it looks with a little faith and some practice. I'm planning on sitting with this book open and going through to make Uma the Unicorn (my favorite in the book, I'm such a sucker for those pastel pinks and greens) for my niece once I have the chance to get the right colors. I'm so grateful I got an advance preview of this book, so much so I'll be buying a physical copy when it releases this summer. Thank you again!
I loved this book and made a few of the patterns in it so far! Very clear and concise patterns that were easy to follow. Highly recommend! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you've never tried amigurumi, now is the chance and this book could be the next step in your crocher experience. Easy to follow patterens with lost of helpful tips will put you in the "expert" category quickly.
Some really lovely makes with detailed step by step instructions. Our crochet group will love making these
Perfect book for beginners! Often people say to start with a granny square, but I found that boring and I’d lost interest quickly. This book has great explanation of each step with detailed photos. The author even explains how to do the placement with either sitting, standing or laying down. The animals themselves are really cute and on the smaller side, which I often don’t find patterns for. They would be great for gifts, practicing your skill, or just fun to work up quickly. And I was pleasantly surprised that the author even included a section with patterns for accessories for the animals. The variety of patterns is awesome, you’ll absolutely find one you love!
What an amazing book! It has all the steps and information needed for a beginner to start with this beautiful craft. But also, it is very handy for people with lots of experience as the different designs are very cute with different poses and shapes. Thanks Netgalley for my advanced copy.
A amigurumi book that talks about the basics and gives cute animal patterns. I liked all the pictures included! I do wish though that instead of just referring back to the head pattern from the introduction, each pattern just had the head directions. It made it hard to move back and forth. This was especially hard on an e-reader.
This is a really cute book with lots of animals. For the most part the instructions were very clear. It starts with basic instructions for all the body parts, then you go to the animal’s page to get specific details for that specific animal. I do wish it gave more instructions in places. For example, the giraffe has spots on the body, but instead of telling you where to change colors to make those spots, it sends you to the general page on how to change colors. And this is rated as a beginner. A beginner needs detailed instructions as much as possible. All in all, it’s a good book, and I would buy the hard copy. I have made a few animals and I believe I can navigate around the instructions. While I believe most books start with general instructions on body, hands, feet, etc (then you go to the specific animal to get any additional instructions), I believe a step by step for the entire animal would be better for a true beginner.
This has become one of my favorite booklets for crochet animals. The instructions are simple and very easy to follow. This is perfect for all levels of crocheters.
Greatly enjoyed Amigurumi Friends by Jade Gauthier-Boutin! This book is so cute, creative, detailed, and informative. Always trying to find new outlets for creativity and enhancing opportunities to improve my craft skills. Crochet is an area I am still honing my abilities in, but the author’s directions, supplementary photos, and compelling projects made this very fun to flip through. Can’t wait to bring more of these to life! Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group-Quarry, and the author for the opportunity to review this ARC!
A solid 3.5 for me.
I hope that the final product will be spiral bound. I have learned from other crochet titles that constantly flipping to the basic body/head shape pages quickly destroys the binding on traditional paperbacks.
I do feel like every crochet critter book these days, features the same 20 animals in every book. How about, I dunno..... a pigeon? a turtle? Something other than lion, dinosaur, unicorn, bear, etc. They are fine, but I'd be more interested in something more unique.
The QR codes for tricky bits is a nice touch as is the final section that shows you little bits and bobs you can add to really make the pattern your own.
Overall, good. Can't say it would be great for true beginners, but a good building block.
Very well written!
I do a lot of knitting and crocheting, and this is a very comprehensive title filled with different tips and tricks, and techniques for any given level or crocheter, from a beginner to advanced. Lots of pictures to guide the reader, with plenty of step by step instructions.
There were a few new things I learned in this, including the eyes and how to add a simple white strand on the outside to give it more depth.
I love that you can also mix and match to create any style of animal you want, from standing to sitting to sleeping. It's very customizable for each creator according to what the crocheter is in the mood for.
Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a cute little animal amigurumi.
Can't wait to actually try out a few of these patterns!
5/5!
There's some great designs here, with clear and easy to follow instructions. Well illustrated and I loved the section at the end with ideas for customising the animals. Thanks to Netgalley.
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of AMIGURUMI FRIENDS: 20 EASY PATTERS TO CREATE 100+ ADORABLE CUSTOM CROCHET CRITTERS by Jade Gauthier-Boutin in exchange for an honest review. This is a book with basic shapes for assembling an assortment of stuffed animals. It has 20 adorable patterns and tips for using the basic shapes for making your own version of stuffies. I liked it, and I highly recommend it.

I loved this book!
It was so easy to follow along and a ton of options; for all levels. I requested it because it’s something I’ve never tried before and I’m so glad I did.
i really loved this crochet book! it’s easy to understand, even for a beginner. i really enjoyed how there were basic stitches at the front of the book, and all patterns included pictures and detailed instructions. i’m new to amigurumi, so the section with tips and tricks specifically for amigurumi was really helpful. my favorite part, you might ask? the accessories section! how cute!! i especially loved the overalls. i thought that was such a cute and unique idea to add tutorials for clothes to go with your new amigurumi plush!
Thank you so much for this book!
I love crocheting and I can’t wait to make all of these! The pictures are perfect. The steps are so easy to follow and I can’t wait to make all of the adorable stuffed amigurumis!
This is a really great instructional manual. Full of cute creative projects for everyone from beginners to the more advanced - the basics of crocheting and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. The pictures provided are also super helpful. I can't wait to try out a project!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is an attractive and useful book for making cute crochet stuffed animals! It has great photos and lots of ways to change and customize the adorable patterns. It's probably best for those who already know how to crochet - there are basic crochet stitch instructions here, but they don't have photos or diagrams for each step of the process. The 20 adorable animals in the book are based on a few basic head and body types, which is great, but it means you'll need to flip back and forth between the animal page and the basic pattern pages. Thankfully each design has a QR code that links to an online tutorial.
I like the explanations for how to stuff the creatures and make eyes, and that each pattern specifies the size of eyes and hooks you'll need. The last chapter has a lot of useful information about how to adapt patterns and make your own creatures. It is very helpful to have patterns for variations in shapes, and an index with different body variations. Overall a good book for amigurumi, though not for complete beginners.
