A solid 3.5 for me.
I hope that the final product will be spiral bound. I have learned from other crochet titles that constantly flipping to the basic body/head shape pages quickly destroys the binding on traditional paperbacks.
I do feel like every crochet critter book these days, features the same 20 animals in every book. How about, I dunno..... a pigeon? a turtle? Something other than lion, dinosaur, unicorn, bear, etc. They are fine, but I'd be more interested in something more unique.

The QR codes for tricky bits is a nice touch as is the final section that shows you little bits and bobs you can add to really make the pattern your own.

Overall, good. Can't say it would be great for true beginners, but a good building block.

I do a lot of knitting and crocheting, and this is a very comprehensive title filled with different tips and tricks, and techniques for any given level or crocheter, from a beginner to advanced. Lots of pictures to guide the reader, with plenty of step by step instructions.

There were a few new things I learned in this, including the eyes and how to add a simple white strand on the outside to give it more depth.

I love that you can also mix and match to create any style of animal you want, from standing to sitting to sleeping. It's very customizable for each creator according to what the crocheter is in the mood for.

Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a cute little animal amigurumi.

Can't wait to actually try out a few of these patterns!

i really loved this crochet book! it’s easy to understand, even for a beginner. i really enjoyed how there were basic stitches at the front of the book, and all patterns included pictures and detailed instructions. i’m new to amigurumi, so the section with tips and tricks specifically for amigurumi was really helpful. my favorite part, you might ask? the accessories section! how cute!! i especially loved the overalls. i thought that was such a cute and unique idea to add tutorials for clothes to go with your new amigurumi plush!

This is a really great instructional manual. Full of cute creative projects for everyone from beginners to the more advanced - the basics of crocheting and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. The pictures provided are also super helpful. I can't wait to try out a project!

This is an attractive and useful book for making cute crochet stuffed animals! It has great photos and lots of ways to change and customize the adorable patterns. It's probably best for those who already know how to crochet - there are basic crochet stitch instructions here, but they don't have photos or diagrams for each step of the process. The 20 adorable animals in the book are based on a few basic head and body types, which is great, but it means you'll need to flip back and forth between the animal page and the basic pattern pages. Thankfully each design has a QR code that links to an online tutorial.
I like the explanations for how to stuff the creatures and make eyes, and that each pattern specifies the size of eyes and hooks you'll need. The last chapter has a lot of useful information about how to adapt patterns and make your own creatures. It is very helpful to have patterns for variations in shapes, and an index with different body variations. Overall a good book for amigurumi, though not for complete beginners.

As someone who picked up crocheting in the last few years, I jumped at the chance to see this book. Amigurumi Friends is such a cute crochet pattern book. I love that there are various tips and tricks in the beginning of the book that apply to all of the patterns. This book breaks each stuffy down into the same basic body parts and then tweaks them for each creature. It provides a handful of different body poses, which can be applied to each animal/pattern. I absolutely love the versatility that provides, and I think it makes for so many adorable creations. The pictures are super helpful, and there are QR codes for tutorials dispersed throughout. I can't wait to complete the lion for my new nephew, and I would highly recommend this for any level of crochet enthusiasts.

Everything is so cute!! This is a really great teaching book with very in depth and easy to follow instructions right from the start. I liked how the basic skills can be adapted to make what you want throughout the book. The images are clear to follow too.

So, I have pre-ordered this book because I follow Jade on social media and really like her patterns. I'm still very nervous about crochet, so I am hoping that by buying the book will be a way to motivate me once I finish the various Woobles kits around the house. I decided to spoiler this a bit for myself but checking out the book through NetGalley to see if I could follow the instructions and how it measured up. Overall, I'm happy with the book and am looking forward to getting it in the mail. Were some of the patterns I was hoping for included: no. But that's ok, because the ones that were included are pretty versatile and can be adapted in a lot of ways through the choice of yarn, colours, and accessories.

What I liked? The instructions come with a lot of photos, as a book I ordered at the same time was more text than photos and I find that more daunting. There is a good section that introduces crochet stitches and it is well structured to lead a novice along. Each pattern is ranked as easy to hard, and I appreciate that. I also find that most amigurumi books focus on the core patterns and while this book includes core patterns, there is a section on accessories and most of the patterns overlap in some way to help build skills and basics.

Was there anything I didn't like? Well, other than my note about wanting some of the patterns that she has included in her online store, not much else. And I get why she wouldn't include patterns that she has been selling before. But I did still kind of want the mother/baby ones.

Wonderful patterns that have great detailed instructions. With the full color pictures and easy step by step directions this should be a pattern book for every level of crocheter.

Firstly, as a veteran crocheter, I appreciate a well written pattern and these patterns are easy to follow.
As someone who is also a visual learner, I LOVE that the techniques have qr codes to videos! This makes it so much easier for visual learners as well as younger audiences who may be learning for the first time.
The "pick and choose" method of creating almost any critter makes this book a one stop for almost any animal you might want to make, and is definitely a must have for a shelf of craft books.

I tried making a couple of the toys and found the patterns were clear and easy to follow.
The book allows you to customise your toys, with different body shapes to choose from and a variety of accessories to make. There is even a section to help get you started designing and creating your very own amigurumi!
A brilliant book that I think all crocheters need!

An adorable collection of patterns that I immediately wanted to make up. The book is cleverly written, presenting the patterns as five different basic body types which can then be customised using different colourways and extras to become over a hundred different animals. Clothes and accessories add to the options for customisation. The instructions are clear and well written and QR codes link to video tutorials for those who are new to crochet or who just need a little reminder. A fantastic book for those who already have the amigurumi bug as well as those looking to start out. Highly recommended.

The book begins with the basic of amigurumi, and includes QR codes to get access to tutorial video.
The patterns are all made following the same body with 3 posture variation; standing, sitting and sleeping. After that we get instruction on how to personalize by adding the elements specific to each animals. Once again we are offered QR code to access tutorial video. There is also plenty of clear photos.
As such those pattern imply quite a fair bit of sewing, for which we get lots of instruction, with pictures and access to video.
Overall the book is very well done, lots of photos, very cute pattern, clear instruction and the access to video is great addition!
The pattern are easy enough for beginner, but I would not recommend them as a very first project because of all the sewing required, unless it's something the beginner feels confortable with :)
