The Adventures of Honey is the start to a middle grade series featuring dog detectives. While the premise is cute, I did not love this book. I found the plot not captivating enough as well as undeveloped characters. I do realize this book is written by a 12 year old. I see potential but as this book stands I wasn’t a fan. I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in trade for my honest opinion. My thoughts are my own.

The Adventures of Honey: The Bacon Betrayer is an enjoyable children's book that captured my imagination from the very first page. Following Honey, the aspiring detective dog, on his quest to solve the mysterious bacon theft was a thrilling ride filled with laughter and suspense. From dodging grumpy cats to facing his fears in Chip Valley, Honey's journey kept me hooked until the very end. What I loved most about this book was its message about courage, friendship, and never giving up on your dreams. It's a story that both children and adults alike will enjoy, and I can't wait to see what adventures await Honey in the next installment!

'The Adventures of Honey' by Emmanuel Karolitsky is a simple dog detective story written by a tween. A great accomplishment at putting the story together and getting it published.

The Adventures of Honey: The Bacon Betrayer is the first in a series of dog detective chapter books written by a 12-year-old boy. The book is intended for young children and contains illustrations by the author. The book formatting was terrible on my basic Kindle but was perfect on my cellphone. I recommend reading the story on a tablet device so the illustrations sync with the story.

Honey is a dog detective, who has been waiting impatiently for two years to be assigned a real investigation. When Mrs. Howl finally calls, she sends him on a risky mission to track down a bacon thief at a factory. Honey is thrilled to be paired with his best friend, Rocky, also a novice investigator. He is devastated when he learns that his nemesis, an experienced dog detective, is in charge.

The threesome face obstacles as they try to solve the case. First they encounter a gang of alley cats and crash their motorbikes, so they have to find a new way to travel to the factory. Then they nearly freeze to death and travel to the place that Honey is frightened of the most. The reader hopes that Honey can solve the case that determines his future as a dog detective.

The Adventures of Honey: The Bacon Betrayer is a short picture book broken into six chapters, intended for young readers. It’s a perfect story to read to young children before bedtime, doing a chapter per night. While some of the phrasing of the text is awkward, the story will make sense to young readers. The author’s illustrations really add to the charm. The author gives a hint of his next story in the last paragraph.

I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the book from the author and NetGalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Honey and his friend Rocky have been waiting with great anticipation for a call from Mrs Howl. Their basic training is complete, and they're waiting for a special assignment. But it's been ages!

So when he does receive that much anticipated call, he and Rocky are wild with excitement. Until they discovered they'd be accompanied by a senior agent on their first assignment.

To Honey's surprise, things go unexpectedly well - especially considering the they have to track down the Bacon Betrayer, deal with an attack from Zombie cats, and venture into a very dangerous part of town!

This is a simple but cute story. I was puzzled by the typos and peculiarities in the language, until I discover this is was written by a boy.

So, read from that perspective, he has done a great job. And other children may well enjoy the novelty reading a story written by a child. Giving it 4 stars on that basis.
