Another very enjoyable book with this being the last book in the trilogy.
We see what happens to the three daughters of the Harry Saward. How their lives have changed since the end of the War. We also see what happens to their Aunt Maria and her fiancé Eddie. Jessie still only sees Jack when he comes to Sandringham she wonders if he still feels the same. Beatrice is working at the hospital and sees George when he comes to the village on business. Kitty whose husband is still missing from the War she is friends with the Saward sisters, ends up going to the Workhouse will things work out for her.
It was really interesting to read about this family and what happened to them. It certainly was researched well. I enjoyed all the characters and was also sad what happened to the woman who were War widows. Also how some men were treated when they came back from the War.
I would recommend this book.
This book lives up to the title. The stationmaster Harry Saward’s daughters Jessie, Ada and Beatrice along with their aunt Maria share their struggles of missing their menfolk. It is their family unity that helps them through the difficult times, of which there are many to keep you entertained. Meanwhile Kitty Willow who’s husband Frank is missing in action, presumed dead has had to move to the workhouse with her six children after having had to leave her home as it was needed for the man who replaced Frank on the royal estate.
You just dont stop to think that while the royal family are in residence that normal ups and downs are affecting the people round about them, why shouldn’t it. The factual information contained within the story was fascinating.
My favourite was Emerald, I cried about Archie and Freddie at the funeral. My favourite character was Mr Bell and least favourite was Mr Mumbles. I delayed getting to the end as it was the last in series, I shall look forward to more from this author.
Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion
This is the 3rd in the series about the Saward sisters and their communities.
It is possible to read as a standalone book but as with all series the context is better if one has read them all.
It is well written and well researched and great to get back with sisters. There are lots of factual elements.
And of course romance and love
It was interesting to read about the after effects of WW1 and how people were affected even though it was harrowing in places.
Having said that it was a really enjoyable read and I hope there will be more.
Another great story about the Saward girls who's father is the station master at Wolferton just a couple of miles from the Sandringham estate.Kitty Willie's husband is missing after the war and she is having to move out of her home in the Sandringhsm estate. They have to go into the workhouse and she split up from her 6 children. What will happen to get and the Saward girls.Thank you to Netgalley and Bonnier books UK.
1919 Wolferton, and Kitty Willow along with her six fatherless children has to leave the cottage Appleton house on the Sandringham estate, she has no choice, he husband Frank is missing presume dead for over a year now, the estate gardener, they need the cottage for a new worker to take over and everyone at the house is sad to see them all go, a lot of women's lives have been ruined through this awful war, forcing the whole family into the workhouse in King's Lynn nine miles away, standing at the big two iron gates, what life is Kitty entering into with her children, will her husband ever be found? and would she ever see Wolferton again? This story is heart breaking to read as we find the struggles of the after war and how families had to start to adjust and it's not a case of getting back to normal. There's a lot of changes and not only for women, children too.
I love every thing about it, as we read about old characters and new , some you love some you hate, the author has one again delivered another inspirational book for her readers.
I loved it!
