This wasn't the type of thriller I expected or wanted it to be...
Felt like a lot of the characters feeling was way over done, too strong for what was going on around them.
Everyone was awful, just terrible to each other! Most of the time I was just repelled by how they acted and so damn bored!

“(b)elieve me, when I get my teeth into something, my jaws stayed locked until I get what I’m looking for.”

The detective’s words place both reader and protagonist in a vice grip of suspense. Did I Kill My Husband? is a pressure cooker that twists and turns from start to finish.

After Christina Blake’s first husband cheated on her, she is on marriage number two. And she is finding herself unhappy – again. On a cold, icy evening in the English countryside, she drives out to have dinner with the person she trusts the most, her brother. Over wine and dinner, her brother jokes that they should kill her husband. (Or is her serious?) Christina scolds him for his comment, and soon she goes back out into the elements to return home where her two children (from her first marriage) and – she believes – her husband are waiting for her. The road is treacherous and visibility almost nil. Suddenly, her vehicle is jarred by a tremendous impact. She has hit an animal. Or so she thinks. When she gets home, she receives a call from the police: her husband has been hit by a car and is in critical condition.

So begins this, the latest A.J. Campbell thriller.

Immediately, Christina is wracked with panic and worry about what she believes she has done. Terrified, she tells the local detective (who is making this case his priority) that she was home all evening. And it isn’t just the threat of being exposed for her role in the accident that wears down Christina. She must also deal with the demands of a moody teenage son, a younger daughter who survived cancer and a cadre of concerned family members, friends and neighbors whose incessant inquiries about the state of the investigation and her husband’s recovery drive her to the point of emotional and physical exhaustion.

The author lays out her story out in short, pithy, chapters that are nearly all of equal length. Her use of the present tense narrative heightens the immediacy of every scene, pushing the action onward and to ever higher levels of tension.

The ending is sure to confound even the most discerning of readers. Fans of the author’s other books will love this one, as will any readers who favor suspense and, in particular, domestic thrillers.

I do thoroughly enjoy this author's books, because they just keep me wanting to get to the bottom of it all!

I, once again, had a whole list of possible suspects, not being able to decide who to pick as the culprit. I was changing my mind constantly, hesitating, adding a new tidbit of information, and deciding that no, this person could not be the one.

In the end, I completely missed the boat as per usual, because of the surprise the author had up her sleeves making me shake my head in disbelief.

As I mentioned before, I love it when I am totally wrong footed by an author's brilliant story telling and AJ Campbell certainly did that. 5 stars

Thank you

In AJ Campbell's novel, "Did I Kill My Husband?", the protagonist, Christina, faces a chilling revelation when police officers arrive at her door. They inform her that her husband has been admitted to the ICU after a grave accident, having been struck by a car. As Christina attempts to piece together the events of the fateful night, a haunting question lingers in her mind: could she have been the one who inadvertently struck her husband?

The narrative unfolds in a meticulously crafted tapestry of suspense. Christina's initial shock and disbelief gradually give way to a sense of guilt and introspection. As she retraces her journey that treacherous evening and delves deeper into her investigation, she uncovers unsettling truths about Michael's secretive behavior.

As always, another brilliant fast paced book. There was lots of suspense, dark secrets and twists weaved with psychological turmoil which kept me fully engrossed in the story wanting to find out more. I also loved the short chapters too.
Thank you to AJ Campbell, NetGalley and Bookouture.

A new author for me but what an amazing fast paced thriller which I couldn't stop reading.

All the characters were interesting and well described and I was wrong on so many counts who the culprit was.

The ending was brilliant, so many twists and lies with everything explained.

I have now got a new author to follow and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this brilliant ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.

AJ Campbell has done it again with this twisty domestic thriller!

'Did I Kill My Husband?' Is told through the point of view of Christina who accidentally hits something on her drive home. Fast forward a few hours and she receives a house call from the police letting her know her husband, Michael, has been involved in a hit-and-run and is in a coma at hospital. Was Christine the person who hit Michael? Why can't he remember anything from the night in question? Can Christine keep her cool with help from her twin brother Ted?

This is another fast-paced novel from AJ Campbell and once again she doesn't disappoint. So many red herrings and little twists before the penultimate twist at the end of the book makes the reader want to read "just one more chapter" which we all know means the novel will be finished ASAP!

Thank you to Netgalley, AJ Campbell and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC

This book is a thrill ride cover to cover. It's about a woman whose car is run off the road during a terrible storm. She hears a thud and after checking around the car in the pitch black of night she assumes she hit a deer and it took off. When she learns that her husband has been in an accident, her worst fears have been well realized. She is consumed with guilt but doesn't admit to the police that she could be responsible.
Why was her husband out walking in a storm? Where was he going or coming from? Lots of questions and he has amnesia and can't remember details. She becomes her own detective and she's led in so many directions. What she discovers will blow you away and the twists are so unexpected. The final twist is an amazing end to a fabulous story. Happy to recommend this outstanding thriller by A J Campbell.

This kept me guessing the entire time, from the minute Christina hit something in torrential downpour with low visibility despite going out to check and seeing nothing.. once the police arrived early hours of the morning saying her husband been in a horrific accident… I felt it.. the anguish, the fear imagine that alone was you driving! OMG her world got thrown upside down from there on out.

You might think you know the direction it’s going in, let me tell you, you’ll get it wrong! I was certain I knew what was happening but the plot twists kept on twisting which made me compelled to know more! I did NOT expect it to turn out the way it did. It was intense I couldn’t put it down!

Christina is out with her twin, and on the drive home, in blinding rain, she hits something, but cannot find what she hit.
In the morning, the police visit, and inform her that her husband was the victim in a hit and run.
He was supposed to be home with her children - why was he out in that weather?

Wow!
I started this book when I went to bed, and just HAD to finish it!
Gripping? Is that a strong enough word?
Twisty? Oh, yes! Definitely twisty. But I would never have predicted that final twist.
The suspense is intense, and I tore through the pages.

I definitely want to read more books by this author. She unquestionably knows how to transfix her readers!

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Christina’s car is run off the road during a terrible storm, and she knows she has hit something. Later she is informed by the police that her husband Michael is in the ICU fighting for his life. He survives yet he has amnesia regarding that night. Despite tremendous guilt, Christina hides her role in the accident and turns to her twin brother for help. Was she really the one who hit him? Michael has a history of keeping secrets. What if he dies? Very soon, Christina begins getting blackmailed for a great deal of money. This book is a roller coaster ride! So many secrets, lies and twists, I read it in one sitting. With thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. My opinions are my own.

I kept hoping she did not kill her husband. Did she? Was it a deer? Was it her son? A stranger? This talented author used red herrings and secrets to keep me guessing almost to the end...and then...I kept wondering if what happened really happened. Realistic characters, most of them were realistic, kept this novel moving quickly. I did not want to put this book down until the last page and then...I thought about a sequel...another story about the people in this book...and that is who they were...people more than just characters...imagine this book made into a movie. Thanks Netgalley.
