A story full of suspense, told from the different perspective of the characters- I thought I'd worked everything out, but there were twists at the end which I didn't expect.. Some of the characters weren't particular likeable- and not just the bullying sisters.

This book was quite a good thriller but I found it a little drawn out and it didn't really grip me. The story revolves around two families and how they stick together even though they are unsure who is telling the truth.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC of thisbook.
It was a bit of a drawn out read with the constant flipping between the 2 sisters in the foster family. It was a very believable story and the ending was a great twist.
Will certainly read Sarah Clarke books in the future.

This is my second ARC I've had the pleasure of reading by Sarah Clarke, and Ive enjoyed both! I love a good murder mystery, classic "who done it?" Lots of twists and turns, several times I guessed what was going to happen or who was the killer, but I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong! Thank you NetGalley once again!

This about life in as village in the Chiltens. The book mostly follows two families, both with teenage sisters, one family is close nuclear family and the other is two sisters who have had a difficult life in care after their mother was murdered by her partner. The plot is told in different timeperiods and fairly soon in the book, one of the sisters in care is found murdered. The Rose family may have reasons for wanting her dead, as tehir younger daughter was being bullied at school. In the police investigation, it transpires that they have not revealed what happened on the night that Amber was killed. So far, so good, though I found quite a lot of the actions of the Rose family questionable when we got further into the book, especially given that both parents have responsible jobs (social worker and former teacher) There was also a lot of mistrust between the family members as they suspected each other of dealing with Jess.
Not a bad read, but have read better. Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC

A shocking crime takes place in a small town, which threatens to tear apart a couple and their two daughters. A very taut and emotional psychological thriller, which does require quite a lot of suspension of disbelief, but is gripping and page-turning.

A great book with lots of twists and turns. I thought I'd guessed early on who had killed Amber but was pleased to be wrong once the killer had been revealed. Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

The tension was there right from the start. It was intriguing the way each person could easily have been the murderer and when I thought I had worked out who it was the next part of the plot revealed something different about another character which gave cause to think of them as credible suspect. They all appeared to have a motive for murder. New pieces of information were dropped in throughout which kept the interest of the reader. I was surprised and did not expect or even see the end result
A fully engrossing story which I read at speed and loved all of it, there was no lull in the storyline and would recommend this to anyone.

Teenager Lucy Rose has her quiet life turned into a living hell by bully sisters Amber and Jess. Although the youngest, Amber is the stronger willed and leads her sister into trouble. They've recently had to move foster home and have a traumatic past. Their new foster home has them move to Lucy's school and they seem to target her for their bullying from the start. One day Rachel, Lucy's social worker mum, is called into school as the bullying has escalated. That night Amber is murdered and Rachel has doubts over her family's involvement - Lucy who went missing that evening; big sister Milla who went looking for her and was gone for hours, and dad Matt who is acting suspiciously. When Rachel is the one to find Amber's body, the family are drawn in and to the attention of the police. I didn't know who to suspect, especially when Jess also went missing. Full of suspense and makes you wonder what you'd do if you thought your children or partner were involved in a serious crime. #netgalley #thenightshedies

Good premise, poor execution.
Lucy is being bullied at school by two sisters who have moved to a foster home in the village. Things come to a head the day they steal her sports bag and distribute the contents around the playing field.
That evening Lucy goes missing and the family go out to search for her, Rachel on foot, Matt in the car and her sister Milla going to places she thinks Lucy might hang out. They eventually find Lucy and all return home. The following morning, however, while on a run in the nearby woods and fields, Rachel comes across the younger of the sisters, Amber, dead.
The family begin to unravel as they all consider each other capable of the crime, but there are others involved too, a boyfriend, a drug dealer and possibly even, her sister.
The plot twists and turns. I didn't foresee the outcome and enjoyed the mystery side of the story.
Unfortunately this was a below average rasd for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.

This was an amazing book. The plot was more windy than a country lane. I though yes that’s it I have got it just to it being totally flipped in its head in the next chapter. It was pure brilliance in book form. This book really got in my head and kept me held until the final page. One author I want to read more of

The area I felt that let it down was the characters however. None of them trusted each other, especially not Rachel and Matt and I thought there were some very dubious decisions made - for a start regarding the money and secondly with Rachel searching for Sean. These things brought my enjoyment of the story down a notch or two, from what would otherwise have been and well written and plotted thriller.
With thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the arc.

I have really enjoyed the author’s previous work; the characters are always written well, and the storylines are gripping. This novel is no different. The beginning lures you in, and the tension builds throughout, with an unexpected ending. Plenty of twists and turns and secrets are revealed. My only negative is the time jumps, but that may be just me, as I am not a fan of too many changing timelines. Having said that, this is definitely a gripping psychological thriller that was hard to put down, and once again, the author did not disappoint. A highly recommended read.

A bit of a slow burner with lots of red herrings and tricks thrown in to keep the reader guessing., but I didn't mind that at all. The characters and setting are believable and all add something important to the narrative. Probably quite reflective of a small, close knit town and all the gossiping that occurs there! I actually know Thame and Chinnor quite well so this added to my enjoyment. I had my suspicions about how it would end but was pleased to be surprised still. It took a little time for me to get on top of the different timelines but this was ok in the end. I like the different viewpoints and getting to know the different characters through their own eyes, as well as those of others. A few remaining questions at the end but overall this is a great book and highly recommended.

When a runner finds the body of a teenage girl she soon realises that is that of one of the two sisters who are bullying her youngest daughter. But who killed her? One is one of her own daughters or even her husband?

This is a really well written murder mystery. Each character has their own flaws and you really believe it could be any one of them. The writer draws out each personality and you really feel like you know them.

This was a great story with twists and turns. I thought I'd figured it out a few times but was wrong!
The side stories of the foster care system was well thought out and well written;
A book that keeps you turning just one more page...

This book was better than I thought. I found it interesting that two foster care girls bullied someone vs the foster care kids getting bullied by the popular crowd. I understand better when you find the connection between the girls, the bullied girl, the mother and father, and their "long lost brother." It held my attention better than I thought and had some really good twists. Did not guess the ending at all.

I usually enjoy dual timeline stories, but found this one a little confusing and too slow paced for my liking. However there were some good twists and turns and the ending was well worth persevering for. 3*

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Two teenage sisters, in care, are making life hell for Lucy Rose and she has no idea why. Lucy's Mum goes out for a morning run and finds Amber, one of the sisters, dead. as the investigation goes on, suspicion falls in turn on different members of Lucy's family and her Mum has to start investigating on her own to allay her fears. Its quite a clever plot and the story rattles along, but some of the action is barely credible. Probably more of a YA novel than an out and out thriller.

An excellent faced paced thriller that leaves you guessing then changing your mind numerous times. It draws you in from the start. Loved the two timelines and the character were well drawn. Would highly recommend this book. Thanks to HQ and Netgalley for this review ARC
