This is the 3rd book of the Detective Maria Miller series. I still haven't read the 1st book in the series but listened to the audiobook of the 2nd, Her lost Soul. If you haven't checked this author out, do so!

The Detective Maria Miller series, is a nice detective series with a mix of supernatural horror elements. Helen's writing is fluid, with a nice clear direction and pace. There is still a nice mix of mystery and suspense which builds nicely throughout the books, which leaves you sitting a the edge of your seat by the last 1/3 of the book. The horror elements ( mainly supernatural and detailed gore/murder elements ) are a nice touch to a great storyline. The story has soon great creepy/atmospheric parts, which may leave you in goosebumps or the hairs on your neck standing on end!

The main characters, Maria, her work partner Frankie have a great work dynamic and their relationships outside of work is an underlying storyline but doesn't detract from the main story, hence the reason why these books can be read as standalone. The rest of the characters are well fleshed out.

I really hope that Maria Miller series continues to grow like the other series Ive seen of Helen's

Good read - this book is a ghostly, mystery thriller with a great plot and some added humor. Loved the main characters which were a pair of detectives, Frankie and Maria. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and enjoyed the paranormal setting.

Definitely recommend this intriguing book. Third in a series but reads like a standalone. It’s a suspenseful, creepy thriller combining ghosts, detectives, mystery and a bit of humor. I’m looking forward to reading more with Maria and Frankie.

Maria and her partner Frank were back in this creepy supernatural crime investigation with elements of horror. Set in a hotel that reminded me of the Cecil Hotel documentary I watched, the murder was gruesome and the imagery and haunting meant I will leave the light on tonight.
The tension and fear began on the first page and did not falter until it's conclusion. With danger haunting the corridors of the hotel I was gripped. Helen Phifer excels at spooky fiction and she did not disappoint.

I didn’t reliase it was a series when I asked for it! However it was easy enough to read and I really enjoyed it! Thanks net galley

I was so hooked on the cover and premise of this book that I didn’t realize it was part of a series. I feel like if I had read the previous 2, certain things would have made more sense to me. With that said, I still really enjoyed it. I love creepy books and this was creepy. Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the eArc.

I didn’t know this was part of series going into it and felt like I was missing some minor details to Maria Millers past to really tie this story together. However, it was still a nice stand alone read. I felt like it was trying to do too much though… a sleep demon (Freddy Krueger, which is mentioned a few times) a haunted hotel involving a water tower (Cecil hotel) and then also multiple possessions from said supposed sleep demon when they weren’t sleeping? It didn’t all mesh together as well as the idea seems like it could. There was also a few things I feel like needed more explaining to make people really really get hooked into this story. The ending felt kind of rushed. Still a nice quick little ghost story and I may be interested in going back to read the first 2 books in the series.

This book is a super natural head trip that will have you looking over your shoulder and double checking your hotel accommodations prior to booking.

Maria is a detective in New York City, who has seen her fair share of the unexplainable. However this case has reached a whole new level when she is called to a crime scene of a New York hotel with two young girls dead bodies. There is no history of them checking in and the floor where the bodies were found is closed off to guests.

This book was interesting and held my attention for the first half but then seemed to drag on to get to the point. I enjoyed the premise but seemed a little rushed at the end.

She talked her parents into stay there. They stayed on the ninth floor and not the infamous thirteenth.
Dory talks her best friend Michelle into going to the hotel for a ghost hunting tour. The girls cannot afford to stay there. Dory finds a name of one the hotel’s maintenance men who will let them have access to Room 1303 with the promise they will share their video and other shots. . They fool their parents by saying they were going to a nearby sleepover.

In the morning the girls are found dead.
Frankie and, Maria answer the call to investigate; which, of course, we go along on this supernatural journey.

I always enjoy reading the Author’s Notes. In this case “A Letter from the Author’ Ms. Phifer tells us that ever since she read Stephen King’s [book: The Shining] she wanted to write a scary story in a hunted hotel.
She also tells us that her inspiration is based on stories of the famous Chelsea Hotel; in fact her description of the Parker’s exterior strong resembles that of the iconic style of the Chelsea’s.

Story is Book #3 in the Frankie and Maria fast dark and creepy series. I really liked Book #2 [book: Her Lost Soul]. At first I didn’t know I had read Book One in the series as it was entitled ‘The House on West 10th Street” in the ‘Ghosts of New York’ series later republished as [book: The Haunting on 10th Street|39904305].which being in the - ‘Ghosts of New York” series and was published as “The House on West 10th Street” back in April 26, 2018.

I love this series but as I said before this is the authors best yet, giving you everything that keeps your brain running like clockwork with every turns.
The Girls on Floor 13 is the most gruesome crime thrillers I have read this year, what a spooky story it is, totally mind blowing that gives you the willys. What more can I say, excellent just excellent

This one surprised me! I was expecting a mystery - which it certainly delivered - but also a touch of the paranormal as well. A very entertaining and suspenseful read.
This novel, by Helen Phifer, is part of a series of books featuring Detective Maria Miller. I haven’t read the previous two books but that didn’t affect my enjoyment in any way. I shall definitely be checking out the other books in this series as soon as I get the chance. A brilliant read, which I highly recommend.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this book. A bit too paranormal for me and the chapters were quite long with pages of no dialogue that just made it feel like it dragged.

I am not a lover of horror stories, I am more of a mystery thriller person. Yet this book had me glued to it from the beginning. I could not put it down. It had me from the very beginning even with some gore and horror thrown in.

Detective Maria Mill and her partner are called to a crime scene at the Parker Hotel. This isn't just a regular crime scene people feel the hotel is haunted. The scene was a bloody scene which involved two young girls who are missing their feet. Maria and Frankie get pulled into a series of scary events which they try to figure out who the killer or killers are. The real scary part is that Maria starts seeing the lady in blue ghost and cannot figure out why her. She then puts herself in the line of fire many times while trying to figure what is going on. Why is Maria so pulled towards this hotel? What really happened at this hotel all those years ago.? Something is not right and Maria and Frankie need to find out before its to late.

Like I have stated I am not a horror story person. Since it was written as a mystery, thriller the horror part wasn't to bad. I love the characters of Maria and Frankie. They have a special relationship that gets intense in a loving way. Maria is a strong person who likes things done her way. Yet she isn't that put off when she needs to ask for help from her gentlemen friend Harrison who adores her and would love to marry her. The writing in this book kept me at the edge of my seat. You just never knew what would happen next and that is another thing I liiked. It kept me guessing.

Since this is the third book in the series ths is the first time I actually ordered the other two books after I read this one. I only hope there will be more adventures with Frankie and Maria.. Truly a 4.5 stars book. So thank you NetGalley Helen Phifer and Storm Publishing for the ARC. Looking forward to more from this author.

Wow, although it is probably better to wait a bit closer to release date to post my review, I was so entertained by this one, I couldn't wait (I will promote elsewhere after release date though).

If you enjoy mysteries with a ghostly twist, then you have to read Helen Phifer's Detective Maria Miller series.

Phifer is an experienced, talented author with a flair for bringing her characters to life, and I found this story immediately engaging. ❤️🌹

Hmm this one wasn’t really up my alley of books I usually read. I wasn’t expecting the paranormal stuff to happen. Most of the book consists of that and also it can be a slow read if that’s not your type of thing ..

I don’t usually like books with supernatural elements. But this one was an exception. I love the setting in NY where I’ve lived in the past. I love the thriller aspect as well. This one help up as a solid read. I need to go back and read the others in this series. As scary as this was. Heart beating fast scary, I really enjoyed it. Can be read as a stand alone, but I think you will want to go back and read the other two (and her other novels)

It is my first novel in this series and I have been able to follow the plot without problems and both the characters and the references to the previous ones have only made me want to read them.
The book has mystery, murder, ghosts, a bit of romance, that is, the perfect formula to trap you in its pages. In short, a supernatural thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I love this series! Detectives but with a supernatural element. This book didn't disappoint and I read it in one sitting. This time they are called to a murder at a haunted hotel with a dark presence. I was sad when one of the usual characters died, but I won't say who! They spoke about quitting in this book so I can only hope for another book!

Oooh!! I'm not really a lover of horror stories but by working the Detective Maria Miller series of stories into a good X-factor type police procedural Helen Phifer has hit the jackpot in every way. I thought books #1 and #2 in this series were scary but she has excelled herself with book 3; The Girls on Floor 13. Right from the start we have spooky goings on, homicides and suicidal ghosts. We are never quite sure who the killer is and Maria puts her life right on the line several times. It's lovely to see Maria and Frankie's personal lives moving on in the right way as well. I hope this isn't the last we've seen of them as I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about them. A well deserved 5* read.
