The 3rd-installment to the series, Maria and Frankie are summoned to the Parker Hotel, an infamously haunted NYC-hotel, after the bodies of two teenage girls are found murdered in one of the rooms on the 13th floor.

This is book 3 in the Detective Maria Miller series. I have not read the previous 2 books. This one can be read as a standalone, but I feel I might have enjoyed it better if I had character background that would've been revealed in books 1 and 2. This book definitely kept my attention, and I was invested in what was going to happen in the end.

On the flip side, there was a lot going on. I went into this one blind, so I was a little caught off guard when dreams and supernatural things occurred. I found it hard to keep up with the timelines at certain points. The ending didn't provide the closure I was seeking. Maybe that's in preparation for a sequel.. Overall, I was loving the book until the paranormal aspects made it hard to suspend reality.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Fast paced, easy read. Very spooky. We get povs from the killer, which is well done and creepy to read. But pretty predictable ending.

Available now on KU. Maria Miller is a cop on the “strange case review team” which basically means she works paranormal cases. This is book 3 in the series, but it can be read alone. Two teen girls are found dead in a haunted hotel, missing their feet. Theres ghosts so don’t go into this book expecting a standard crime thriller.

Definitely interested in reading the rest of the series now.

Side note: girl, take the offer from your rich boyfriend to buy you a bookstore cafe!! And tell him you love him!! What are you doing??

Thanks to netgalley, Helen Phifer, and Storm Publishing for the arc!

It's always a thrill when a new Helen Phifer book is available! I hate watching scary movies but love scary books, and what better after a haunted asylum than a haunted hotel!

The Maria Miller books are so good. I have no idea what is next in store for the series as this book was pretty final for the creepy crawley/ kooky spooky division of the police. I'm glad to read that it will continue and not leave us after 3 books. Maybe Maria will turn ghost whisperer!

I love that Maria and Frankie are such real characters. Flaws and kinks and all. Even more realistic was the fact that they can get seriously hurt and not just Rambo their way through the book. The host of different characters is what makes it for me. The regular ghostbuster squad of Missy, Emilia and Father Anthony are back and they bring a lady ghost in blue, poor hardworking Rickie and a one footed prostitute called Cherry.

I love the flow of the writing and the humour within and the real life bits of trivia that gets mentioned. I Googled the hotel but couldn't bring the pictures to life. In the authors note when the Chelsea Hotel was mentioned, THAT is the spooky hotel of my imagination to a tee.

All in all, another smasher from Helen Phifer and I intend to haunt her other series for a read of other characters soon too.
Big thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review. This has been added to Storygraph and Goodreads already.

The Girls on Floor 13 is a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a easy, fast read that was hard to put down. I didn't read the fist 2 books but it can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend adding this book to your TBR.

This book is about a haunted hotel that holds secrets that pull you in. The author did a great job writing and adding in details to hold my attention. It's filled with mystery, ghosts, secretes and murder.

Ever wonder why there isn't a 13th floor in hotels? This book will make you glad there isn't!

I don’t normally read books with paranormal themes and now I know why. This is a creepy, fast paced mystery. If you like a haunting tale, this book is for you! You will want to keep the lights on after you are done with this. Many thanks to the author, Storm Publishing and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The 3rd installment of the Maria Miller series, and what a hit.

We meet back up with Maria and Frankie who have been called to a scene at the Parker Hotel, NYC. Room 1303 on the 13th floor. Inside they find 2 dead teenage girls, with their feet cut off.

As they begin the investigation, they end up with more questions than answers. Dark forces are also in play. Hopping between the past and present, we get a glimpse into who may be behind taking the girls lives... and feet.

I thoroughly enjoy this series, however they can be read as stand alone. I hope there's many more to come. This one in particular reminded me of the Cecil Hotel, the story I have a *slight* obsession with! I love the paranormal, with the police procedural elements and I find this series such an easy read!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Being that this is the first Detective Maria Miller book I read in this series, a few things got lost in context for me. The concept of the story was intriguing, but I wish there was just a little more backstory especially for the woman in blue. A paranormal serial killer and a haunted hotel make for a great combination, but I would have liked more space for the side characters.

This is the third installment in the Detective Maria Miller series. This is my second foray into this series, having read the second installment earlier this year.

This was a quick and easy read, but I felt that it wasn’t as strong an offering as the second book in the series. This one was less character-driven and not as evocative.

One of the things that drew me to this series was the relationship between Maria and Frank. They were a strong team and had a good partnership. I didn’t get that as much in this book. Although they sometimes talked about how much they cared for each other I didn’t really feel it in this one, and there was a lot more tension in their interactions than I would have expected. Maria’s relationships with other secondary characters, like Missy and Emilia, were also a big strength in her earlier book, and in this one there seemed to be less focus on those relationships as well.

The paranormal aspect of the story started off strong but then it kind of went off the rails. Obviously, disbelief has to be suspended when reading books like this, but at some point we went from unrealistic to UNREALISTIC. At that point it was hard not to get taken out of the story. It stopped being fun and just got confusing.

This one started off strong but fell flat in the end. Things were wrapped up very quickly and we were left with some loose ends, including the fate of a couple of new characters we were introduced to.

This may or may not be the end of the series, but I would still be interested in giving another installment a chance. It would be interesting to see if this really is the end of the road for Frank and Maria, or if their paranormal adventures continue in their civilian lives

Thanks NetGally and Storm Publishing for the advanced copy.

**3.5-stars rounded up**

Helen Phifer's Detective Maria Miller books are all super solid, page-turning Paranormal Mysteries. These books follow Maria Miller and her partner, Frankie, as they investigate cases that lack a normal, scientific explanation, and trust, these stories get DARK. Located in New York City, there's certainly no lack of bizarre happenings for them to investigate. Maria and Frankie have quickly become one of my favorite detective duos.

In this, the 3rd-installment to the series, Maria and Frankie are summoned to the Parker Hotel, an infamously haunted NYC-hotel, after the bodies of two teenage girls are found murdered in one of the rooms on the 13th floor. The girls are laid out on the twin beds, as if on display. It's a gruesome scene. As the investigation begins, the hotel manager shares some information with Maria that surprises her. A newspaper article reporting on an almost identical double murder that occurred in the hotel decades earlier.

In fact, a lot of people have suffered a tragic end at the hotel, some of the spirits reportedly still stalk the halls. Is there possibly some connection to the past in this case?

The more time they spend at the hotel, the more it seems to be effecting Maria. It feels like something has poisoned her body. It's truly a race against the clock as they try to find the murderer, before they have the opportunity to strike again. I found this mystery very intriguing. Phifer wastes no time diving into the main case we're going to be examining. I appreciate how Phifer's not afraid to get graphic. This one is definitely not for the faint of heart.

I loved the inspiration I felt from IRL Haunted Hotels. I know the author had a particular hotel in NYC in mind, but it immediately made me think of the Cecil Hotel. I mean, the watertower connection...

There's def some creepy imagery in this. I feel like Phifer excels in that area. Let it be known, this is a true Paranormal Mystery. It's not one of those, is it, is it not, cases. Go into this knowing it is absolutely, 100% Paranormal.

As with many Adult Mystery series, you can read this as a standalone. I would recommend reading the other books in the series though, as there is a lot of great character development for Maria and Frankie, as well as some really fun side characters, over the course of the three books. With this being said, you could actually read this one first and then if you loved it enough, go back and read the other two. I would certainly have no problem with doing that.

This gets absolutely wild at the end. It's so gripping. It's compelling throughout, but the pace and the stakes really increase the closer you get to the end. Overall, this was an entertaining, fast-paced, creepy mystery. I love how Phifer pulls a historical perspective into her stories as well. The back and forth and the way everything builds out is just very pleasing.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys Paranormal Mysteries, or Horror Mysteries. Maria and Frankie are like the Mulder and Scully of the NYPD.Thank you to the publisher, Storm Publishing, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I can't wait to see what comes next for these characters!

Another book in the Maria/Frankie series with a paranormal element . This one is set in a NY hotel. The book is ok, entertaining and a quick read (I read it within a few hours). The supernatural is not realky my thing, but it is ok here . The crimes are resolved fairly quickly. I like the main characters, not too keen on Harrison .This is not as good as others in this series.

When I requested this book from Netgalley there was no indication in the books description that this would be a paranormal book or a kind of ghost story, So i was unpleasantly surprised by this book. People getting pulled into walls is just not my thing.
But when I start a book I always try to finish it, so even though I don't like the genre I read on to see where the story was going and if, apart fI dom the occult, it was well written.
Didn't like the characters though and found the dialogues flat and uninteresting. This book is just not for me. Two stars for the book and I'll throw in an extra star for the interesting background story of the hotel.

Well, wow what's not to love about a detective series with a sprinkle of supernatural added in. The characters of Maria and Frankie are described perfectly and make you wish you knew them personally. This book is part of a series but could be read as a standalone I think. Absolutely brilliant book.

This book looked and sounded intriguing, but honestly it just did not do it for me. It started to become tedious.

Detective Maria Miller and her partner return in this excellent installment of this supernatural thriller series. Two girls found dead on a bed in the Parker hotel. Spooky goings on raises this above your normal police procedural. Plenty of twists along the way. Thanks to Storm publishing and Netgalley for this review copy.

Wow wow wow out of this world amazing!
This had every element of an amazing read. Horror and gore, suspense galore, terrifying plot twists and some amazing characters. This one opened with the most horrific of events and then added some supernatural dashes and an epic read was created. I could not put this down. It was one of the best reads this year so far. I was sad when I got to the end I wanted to have more of this story to consume. A absolutely horror inducing fast paced read!

Creepy hotel and two dead girls.

Detective Maria Miller is back investigating 2 dead girls have been found on the 13th floor of a creepy New York hotel with a past of haunting events. Maria senses something isn't right when she sees a ghostly figure and with an identical murder from 40 years previous is this a copy cat or something far more sinister.

This was a good enjoyable quick thriller read. This book had a creepy atmosphere and some great twists. I have had a great time with this series.

Thank you to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and Helen Phifer for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Girls on Floor 13 by Helen Phifer was no different. This book is the third book in the excellent Detective Maria Miller series and I loved it. I highly recommend this series but it read it in order...........Helen did not disappoint with this series.

Detective Maria Miller, and her partner Frankie are back with another edge-of-the-seat thrillers that you cannot put down!
When two teenage girls are found dead in room 1303 of the Parker Hotel, Maria and her partner are trying to figure out what is going on. The case brings back another that happened several decades earlier. Who would want to kill young women and take their feet?
While they begin their investigation, they are soon met with more questions than answers, and the darker forces around them are starting to wreak havoc on their lives. Will they survive this latest case?

This is hands down one of my favorite books of the year. I was hooked on these from the first one, and I sure do hope there are more! Maria and Frankie make a great team, and the cases always bring a bit of nail-biting and heart-stopping sections. While they are dealing with paranormal aspects of cases, I really enjoy how these have a more earthy feel, not so far-reaching as some books I have read.

Highly recommend this one if you are looking for a great police procedural with a paranormal twist!
