Firstly never pick a stranger up , you just never know what will happen . Abbie and Ben are travelling late and in the fog when they see a broken down car with a couple and a baby stranded on the roadside. When they offer their assistance a whole chain of events occur that puts them all in danger. This was a very fast paced atmospheric read which will have you gripped from start to finish . The short chapters keep you reading and although the whole event takes place over a few hours it seems like a long time ,as I’m sure it did to Abbie and Ben. It’s action packed and slowly we the reader are enlightened to what it’s all about. I enjoyed this as a quick read but my only criticism is that it was slightly repetitive especially in the middle . Overall a good read with a satisfactory ending.

I’ve been a firm follower of Chris for a number of years now & each new release is more gripping than the last! This one has multiple twists & I couldn’t stop reading it because I was desperate to know the ending.

Well written, gripping and brilliant!!

Absolutely loved this book. From the first page it had me hooked. It was very fast paced. So many twists and turns you could never get bored. It literally had me on the edge of my chair. The plot was well thought out and put together. Great characters that went well. Shame it had to end

Ben and Abi are returning home after a few days away because Ben has to go into work. Abi had hoped this time away would help her troubled marriage, but after taking a wrong turn in the fog a man tries to flag them down , they carry on but shortly after see a broken down car by the road with a woman and a baby in a car seat standing besides it. They stop and the couple ,Paul and his wife along with the baby get in the car and ask to be taken to a Hospital on the way back, the Hospital is closed so they carry on their way home. Abi decides they need to get petrol so they go to a petrol station .This is where things take a turn for the worse as Paul has a gun , Abi shouts for Ben to run as he approaches the car from the kiosk , he does but Paul shoots him and they force Abi to continue under threat of the gun.Things then take a dramatic twist as things with the people they picked up are not as they seem .

Ben and Abi travel home late one night in foggy conditions. They've argued, and Abi is upset and doesn't want to drive in such inclement weather. They miss turning and fall into a dark adventure of danger and deceit. The author creates a claustrophobic and toxic ethos from the outset, intensifying with each event and flashback to the past. The cast list is minimal, predominately Ben and Abi and Samantha and Paul, but the compelling plot draws you into their lives, and it's like falling down a dark well. Immersive, intense and intriguing, the plot unfolds with each reveal from observation or past narrative, perfectly planned to inform and ramp up the suspense. I like the dark mystery that unfolds, mirrored by the dark, foggy night, the characterisation and the atmospheric setting. It's a compelling and exhausting read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

This book was excellent and seriously so suspenseful with plenty of twists and turns all the way through. I couldn’t put it down at all, what a page turner!! The characters are great, the story is so fast paced along with a brilliant ending. The style of writing is perfect.
I have read other books by this author and I have enjoyed them all.. can’t wait for the next one to come out. I would recommend this and its author to anyone that likes reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

C.M. Ewan’s One Wrong Turn is a taut thrill ride from beginning to end. That question about ‘would you stop?’ had me screaming no, even before the action took place. Caught in a dense Cornwall fog, Abi and Ben are already tense and not really speaking to each other because they’ve had to cut short a holiday weekend and the roads are just horrible. Abi’s driving and she barely see in front of her. Her every instinct tells her to keep driving when they come across a man in the road. So, she keeps on driving even though Ben wants to stop. But then they see a car in the road with a woman and a baby seat and Abi knows she can’t leave them stranded. So they pick up Smantha, baby Lila and thye man, who running up to the car, turns out to the father, Paul.

Thus begins a truly terrifying ride. The couple they have picked up are reluctant to volunteer information about themselves and Abi finds that strange. But Ben chats away, oblivious to anything wrong, sharing information about himself and Abi without noticing that the atmosphere is quite strained.

Abi’s instincts are soon proved right and in a ride that proves to be adrenaline fuelled and strewn with danger, it soon transpires that nothing this couple have said about themselves can be taken at face value.

C.M. Ewan’s writing is filled with twists and is redolent with atmosphere and the tension that comes from knowing that danger is lurking but not quite where it is coming from or why.

The chapters switch between timelines, with Abi and Ben’s weekend playing out at as we watch them trying to work out what has left Paul and Samantha in such a jangly state.

Paul and Samantha seem to be at odds, yet both are clearly really terrified about being seen by anyone else on the road. Samantha seems to be signalling to Abi that something is very wrong, but Ben doesn’t see it and when Abi stops for petrol, she tries to get Samantha on her own.

Events spiral and there are several heart stopping moments during which a great deal goes wrong. Ewan writes in short sharp chapters which aids the building of tension and a whole heap of unpredictability.

Abi and Ben’s own relationship is well portrayed and you relate very easily to Abi who just wants to get home with as little fuss as possible. The couple’s own difficulties impede their ability to communicate well with each other so that by the time Ben realises that Abi has a point about their passengers it is way too late.

The tension keeps building and inside the car it feels claustrophobic and intense, with danger hovering but with neither Ben nor Abi understanding quite what is going on. As a reader you are caught up in the danger and as the plot thickens and becomes riddles with very real danger, everything spirals out of control.

One Wrong Turn is part psychological thriller and part a fast paced, adrenalin fuelled danger ride that’s full of neat plot twists and definitely has that edge of the seat feeling that goes on for most of the book.

Verdict: A dark, intense thriller with many twists and turns amid a chilling and deeply atmospheric setting. The conclusion is both terrifying and electric and left me exhausted because I’d been holding my breath so tightly!

Interesting book, lots of twists which I didn’t see coming. In the end it got a little far fetched and a little frantic however by that point you are fully invested in the characters..

Liked the ending!

Despite, or perhaps because of, its ordinary starting-off point, this is, quite simply, an extraordinary thriller that will take your breath (or rather, your free time and sleep!) away. The plot starts with Abi and her partner Ben, homeward-bound and weary after a tiring weekend away. When they come across a young couple with a baby, seemingly stranded by the side of the road during the inhospitable night, Abi and Ben do the decent thing: they stop and offer the young family a lift to the hospital. Little do they know that this sets in motion an easy, tense, even dangerous set of events … Fantastically written, with not one word or one chapter too many, this is a breathtaking thriller even for seasoned readers who feel they have read it all. Wholly recommended! My thanks go to NetGalley and to the publishers for the free ARC that allowed me to get to know this author’s work and to produce this honest and unbiased book review.

Certainly a thrill a minute with twists and turns to keep even the greediest thriller reader happy. Interesting plot and on the whole quite plausible..My only gripe being how some of the off camera” events were conveniently explained to a character so as to fill the reader in. It was just a bit clumsy but I loved the book overall.

Oh my god! This book has the makings of a perfect thriller that makes you grip the popcorn bucket hard. You can literally feel the tense atmosphere out of the pages. The author does a brilliant job of creating the setting and uses it to create a sense of panic and fear.

I loved the plot and narratives. It made me continuously guess what was going on. I love how it had me on my toes and the fast paced storytelling. Has to be on my top books for the year.

Thank you Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange of my unbiased review.

This is a really good, tense, thriller of a read. A young couple who have had a romantic weekend cut short due to a recall to work, suddenly find themselves in an impossible situation.

They are driving along a foggy road and are flagged down by another couple with a baby seat. Abi the main character senses something is wrong and oh boy, Is she right?.. what follows is an edge of the seat storyline.

I had an issue with the flow and it could be tighter in length but that’s partly due to the claustrophobic nature of the tale.

All in all a solid recommendation and a thank you to NetGalley and PanMac marketing for the opportunity to preview.

The first half of this book is very slow moving, though you do feel the tension of Ben & Abi's situation build up when they pick up a couple with a baby at the side of the road at night. The journey in the fog is drawn out and there is definately something off about the couple that they have picked up. Abi, the driver has to stop for petrol and this changes the situation for all the people in the car. After this, the pace picks up a little and then really goes with a bang once they reach their destination. The short chapters told from different points of view do make for quick reading, the last part of the book is maybe a little far-fetched but I found myself hoping that things would turn out OK.
I was considering rating this as 3 stars, not bad but not great, but will round up to 4 as the second half definately kept my interest . Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC

Some say ,"no good turn goes unpunished" & this was certainly true for Abi & Ben! Having been forced to cut short their break in Cornwall so Ben can go in to work they set off for Bristol in thick fog. Abi is far from happy. They had looked up a route that would save time but have missed the turning. When a man appears out of the fog she nearly runs him down but narrowly misses him. Ben wants to stop, she doesn't but a mile or two down the road they spot a car with the bonnet up & a woman standing with a baby car seat beside it. This time they do stop. The man from up the road catches up & explains they need to get down the road to get help. They pile into the car & the nightmare begins.

Having most of a story taking place in a car in the fog isn't what you expect to be an action packed story but this one definitely is. OK at times it does stretch believability but by that time I was so totally engaged I didn't care! I read far into the night. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

One Wrong Turn, one right page-turner.

That was one hell of a night. The night for Abi and Ben, when a foggy journey goes about as far off the path as possible, and the night I spent reading because I couldn't put it down.

Buckle up buttercup, this one's a goodie.

Claustrophobic..
One decision, numerous consequences, in this edge of seat twisting suspense. A claustrophobic thriller with a propulsive plot populated with a credible cast and a pacy narrative. Wholly tension fuelled and with an array of twists that the reader may not see coming. Tense, edgy and filled with dramatic moments.

The story kicks off with Abi and Ben, a young couple driving home through thick fog after a weekend cut short. Their decision to stop and help Samantha, Paul, and their baby stranded by the roadside sets off a chain of increasingly tense and dangerous events.

The narrative is interwoven with flashbacks, revealing the backstory of Samantha and Paul, and how they ended up in such dire straits. The story's momentum is driven by constant twists and turns, maintaining suspense throughout.

The characters are well-written and multifaceted. Abi and Ben's evolving relationship adds depth to their characters, highlighting their vulnerabilities and strengths. Samantha and Paul are equally complex, with their true intentions gradually unveiled. The characters' interactions are realistic and charged with tension, that kept me invested in their fates.

The pacing is relentless, with short, punchy chapters that enhance the feeling of urgency and claustrophobia. The narrative shifts between past and present effectively building suspense and providing necessary context. Does it occasionally lapse into implausibility? Sure, but the story's fast pace ensures a compulsive read.

It’s full twists, some more predictable than others. A mid-story revelation cleverly alters the story’s direction. The twists are generally well-executed, though a few might stretch the bounds of believability. Nevertheless, they contribute to a thrilling and unpredictable ride.

In summary, it’s an engrossing thriller that explores the consequences of a seemingly benign decision. Ewan's ability to create a tense atmosphere, coupled with well-drawn characters and a rapid-fire pace, makes this a compelling read. Perfect for fans of twisty, edge-of-your-seat thrillers.

One Wrong Turn is out now - a huge thanks to the author, Macmillan, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book for review consideration.  All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the premise of this book and the beginning seemed intriguing, unfortunately it didn't pay off for me and the story got a bit lost along the way.
