I would never stop to pick someone up in a scary road in the dark. With or without my husband. I know you should trust and hope that if it was you that Simone would stop. But after reading this - never will stop ✋

4 Stars from me

It's the stuff of nightmares isn't it, to be driving down an unknown road in the dark and then to see someone by the side of the road - in the middle of nowhere, in the dark - who clearly needs help. Or do they, every horror film you've ever watched will flit through your head, is it a trap, but what if it's not, you'd want someone to stop for you, what if you don't stop and then something bad happens to them. What if you do stop and then something bad happens to you?

Needless to say, wouldn't have been much of a story otherwise huh... Abi and Ben stop to help the lady stranded on the side of the road and life takes a somewhat sinister turn.

Fans of fast paced psychological thrillers will love this book which is full of anticipation, surprises and bootloads of tension as Abi and Ben get separated and try to save themselves and each other.

Loved this! So many twists and turns and the suspense and tension was there right from the start. I soon whizzed through this as it was short chapters which I love and the end of each one just kept me wanting to find out what happened next. Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

Can you just picture yourself driving down foggy unfamiliar roads when all of a sudden someone appears in front of your car and you have to swerve to avoid them. Sounds like a nightmare but this is only the beginning of the nightmare for Ben and Abi who are heading back home after a holiday in Cornwall.

This was one of those books that honestly gripped me right from the very start. Often with some books it can take a while for them to get going but that was certainly not the way in this one. I found this one to be a heart pounding and fast paced thriller from start to finish. There were a couple of twists that really knocked me for six. I could literally feel the tension as I raced through this superb read so eager was I to find out how everything would finish. This book never slowed down for me and each chapter was packed with tension. This was the first book I’ve read by this author but I most certainly will be reading his back catalogue as I was so impressed with this one,

What a brilliant, exciting, breathtaking and unforgettable novel! With superb plotting, fascinating characters and beasutiful writing, Chris Ewan has excelled himself. Two couples, Cornwall in the fog, a vehicle breakdown, the offer of a lift. But is anything what it seems? Can anyone be believed? Stunning!

I loved this book! Abi and Ben are driving home after a weekend in Cornwall. It's very foggy. Suddenly, a man appears at the side of the road. They don't stop but a bit further along they come across a broken down car. A woman with a baby seat is standing by the car. Ben persuades Abi to give a lift to the woman, her husband and the baby. This turns out to be the worst decision they have ever made! This is an absolute roller coaster of a read and I couldn't put it down!

When it comes to psychological thrillers, C.M. Ewan's *One Wrong Turn* is a masterclass in tension and suspense. From the moment Abi and Ben took that fateful wrong turn on a foggy country road, I was hooked, my heart racing with every twist and turn.
The story begins innocently enough: a couple, Abi and Ben, driving home after cutting short their weekend getaway. Their argument is familiar, almost comforting in its normalcy until it isn't. The atmosphere changes dramatically when a man appears in the middle of the road, waving a torch. Abi swerves to avoid him, setting off a chain of events that kept me glued to the pages.
Ewan expertly captures the creeping dread that comes with being stranded on dark, isolated roads. Abi’s initial instinct to drive past the broken-down car is relatable, tapping into the primal fear of the unknown. But the sight of a woman holding a baby seat with a child in it tugs at the heartstrings, creating a moral dilemma that sets the stage for the rest of the story.
The decision to help the stranded family seems noble, yet there's an underlying sense of foreboding that Ewan masterfully maintains. Once the strangers are inside Abi and Ben’s car, the suspense increases to an almost unbearable level. The narrative constantly had me questioning: Who are these people? What are their intentions? Would I have made the same choice?
Abi and Ben’s internal struggles and their dynamics as a couple are portrayed with such depth that their actions and reactions feel genuine. The psychological aspect of the story is as compelling as the external danger, as both Abi and Ben struggle with guilt, trust, and the instinct to protect themselves and each other.
C.M. Ewan’s writing shines in the way he builds tension. Every interaction with the strangers is fraught with suspicion and unease. The foggy, isolated setting becomes a character in itself, adding to the claustrophobic feel of the narrative. The plot moves at a brisk pace, with enough twists to keep even the most seasoned thriller readers guessing.
Without giving away too much, the climax of *One Wrong Turn* is both shocking and satisfying. Ewan ties up the story with a resolution that left me contemplating the decisions and moral choices of the characters long after I finished reading.
This book is a riveting psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. C.M. Ewan has crafted a tale that explores the darkness lurking just beneath the surface of ordinary life, and the terrifying consequences of one wrong decision. If you enjoy stories that combine intense suspense with deep psychological insight, this book is a must-read.

One Wrong Turn is a fantastic page turner which I couldn’t get enough of. There were lots of plot twists which i mostly didn’t see coming, and it had a very satisfying storyline that didn’t leave big gaping holes and unanswered questions. I really enjoyed the book and will definitely be reading more by this author.

The author seems to specialise in these 'normal people in extraordinary/dangerous situations' storylines and this was more of the same.
Reasonably enjoyable, chugs along with various layers being revealed as we go.
There was far too much descriptions of driving and roads and reptition of internal monologues that didn't really go anywhere.
And the 'villains' did seem to be a little crackpot, risking a huge amount including murder etc for a relatively small sum of money, it did all seem a little extreme. But... easy to read and nothing too troubling, those who enjoy potboiler thrillers should get along with it.

I didn’t connect with the characters in this one. The plot flowed well with a few surprises I didn’t see coming, but I found I just wasn’t enthralled and was glad it was a quick read. Thank you #netgalley

Well if there was ever an advert not to drive in thick fog then this book is it!

Abi and Ben are driving home in thick fog when they take a wrong turn and come across a couple and a baby, whose car has broken down. Whilst Abi is nervous about picking up strangers, Ben reassures her that all will be ok…however all is not what it seems. Abi immediately feels tension in the car with their new passengers.

Told through a mixture of flashbacks to the previous day and in real time, the tension builds quickly. This is a real page turner as I wanted to know what’s going to happen…at the same time as not wanting to know!

One Wrong Turn is a great psychological thriller, it builds momentum very quickly, with twists and turns throughout that makes for a very enjoyable read.

One Wrong Turn was a book that kept getting better and better the more I read.
Abi and Ben are returning from a weekend break in Cornwall early as Ben has offered to go into his p,ace of work the next day hoping brownie points will lead to promotion. The journey is going to be hard going as a blanket of fog has come down and Abi can hardly see the end of her bonnet. As they are travelling it becomes clear Abi is not happy about having to return home early as she wanted to discuss something with Ben. Along the road they narrowly miss a man in the road, Ben pleads with Abi to stop but she won’t, further on a woman is stood next to a car with with a baby in her arms and Ben manages to get Abi to stop. They have broken down and they come with Abi and Ben but things aren’t quite as they seem and it soon becomes clear that they have to do as they are told or their lives will change forever.
This book will make you think twice before picking up strangers!! It was a very tense read towards the end and had a fast storyline. The characters were believable as in Abi and Ben. Yes the storyline was a little far fetched but was it really?
I would like to thank NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book in one sitting. The concept is brilliant p, the characters are totally believable and the writing is immaculate. The tension wracks up from the start and just gets tighter and tighter. I kept thinking that the adrenaline couldn’t get anymore higher - but I was wrong. What a rollercoaster and some swerves I didn’t see coming. I loved this book that I’m buying today a hard copy for my husband. PS. Don’t give strangers a ride in your car - you could be picking up trouble!

I have driven through Bodmin Moor in the fog. It was a wrong turn. I felt sick and afraid that I was completely lost. At least I didn't have weird strangers in the back like the characters in this book had.

This is a well plotted story about a couple who pick up a family whose car has broken down. The woman is injured and needs a hospital but Cornwall is an isolated and vast place, as well as being dark and cold in the winter. Written in short chapters to keep the pace tight, (in the first person for the driver and third from others) each chapter revealing something to pull the reader along. The story is told in two timelines: one in the present and the other that follows the family up to the point where their car breaks down and the timelines meet. Brilliant suspense.

Of course, nothing is at it first appears and when it looks one way, then it changes. Around the last quarter of the book the story becomes a bit of an action-thriller as it leads to its conclusion. Perhaps because I know this part of the world so well, but the location is definitely a main character, even if the author made a few parts up. Hey, it's fiction after all.

Wonderfully well written, ensuring that perception, angst, intuition and sympathy are authentically portrayed. A really chilling, atmospheric and tense read. This is what a psychological thriller should be. Loved every minute of it. Oh, and don't pick up strangers...

I loved this book and how gripping and twisty it was. I really liked abi and Ben and dis feel foe them and the predicament they found themselves in. I did not see a lot of the twists and turns coming there was a lot of ooh and ahh whilst reading the book. It will have you gripped until the end and even after you have finished reading you will still be thinking about it after wards and I have to say I liked the end as it tells you what happens to every one afterwards ad some books just leave you hanging. I really enjoyed this read.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I almost DNF this as I found the first half quite clunky and difficult to get into. The second half was much better with a few surprises.

"One Wrong Turn" is an exceptional read. The description alone was enough to send shivers down my spine, and the story itself was gripping to the point of being unputdownable. It was filled with twists and turns, eeriness, and an exhilarating narrative. I cannot praise it enough; it was simply outstanding.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my ARC.

Well ... that was a ride and a half!

Abi and Ben have cut their weekend away short and a returning home in dense fog when they take a wrong turn. A man appears out of the fog but Abi doesn't want to stop so drive on. Further up the road, a woman with a baby car seat stands next to a car with its hazard lights on ... should they stop? Would you?

Of course they do but in doing so, they set into motion a nightmare that you would never see coming.

This book is non-stop, yes it's a bit OTT but it's absolutely riveting and I raced through it desperate to see how it would all work out and I wasn't disappointed. With great characters, a fast pace, full of suspense and tension and some great twists, this is a book that I found difficult to stop reading.

Many thanks to the author, Pan Macmillan, Macmillan and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this riveting read.
