I really enjoyed this book, from the first page til the last it grabbed my attention and refused to let go.

Abi & Ben are heading home earlier from their weekend away, arguing about the reason (Ben has unexpectedly been called into work), & driving down foggy country roads in the dark when they take the wrong turn. Having little choice but to carry on, they narrowly miss a man who suddenly appears in front of the car, Abi swerves to miss him but refuses to stop.
A short while later they come upon a broken-down car with a woman & her baby in a car seat. Abi still doesn't want to stop but Ben insists they help out. They end up offering a lift to the woman, baby, & the man from before who is the woman's husband. As they continue their journey, Abi senses that something is not right between the man & wife but can't get much information out of either of them. Abi & Ben are about to find out that no good deed goes unpunished.
The narrative is told from both couples' perspective (Abi & Ben/Paul & Samantha) & it's tricky to work out what is going on at first. To be honest, I was having trouble getting into this one & was thinking of DNF-ing it, when just after halfway through something happened in the plot that grabbed my attention. The last third of the book was much pacier & more intriguing than the rest & in the end I'm glad I finished it. 3.5 stars (rounded up)
My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Pan Macmillan, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Clear your diary and buckle up because CM Ewan has done it again! A real page turner of a thriller with twists that will have you reading long into the night. Was it all believable? Probably not but I find it’s better to just go for the ride. After finishing this book you certainly won’t be stopping to help anyone on a dark foggy night, best to call it in I think. Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for letting me read and review this book.

Great book but, good grief, the anxiety I felt when reading this was unreal. Why are people so STUPID?! One bad decision followed by another followed by another.....it was maddening, especially when your default setting is risk aversive, as mine is!

Wow, I am breathless after reading this rollercoaster of a ride. A brilliant read that I thoroughly recommend with believable characters that enhance the story. An eerie and foreboding atmosphere sets the tone as Ben and Abi begin a dangerous car journey in thick fog. Already tense from an earlier argument Abi misses her turning and after stopping to help someone who has broken down, their nightmare really begins. Page after page of tension and increasing fear, this book absolutely delivers as a psychological thriller that you will not be able to put down. With some huge twists that shock to the core and totally change your thinking it is an absolute cracker of a read.

A young couple set off home in the fog, only to spot a broken down car and a woman and baby needing help. Stopping to help them may be the worst decision they have ever made, as all is not as it appears.
The story is very tense, and the author tries to ramp up the drama at points, but somehow the technique just doesn't quite work in places. I had trouble with some of the scenarios which seemed so incredibly unlikely or were unexplained, and the idea that a man could pick up a gun and fire it with some accuracy just didn't ring true. It felt that the author had seen plenty of TV dramas involving kidnaps, car heists and gun battles and wanted to include all this for effect, without really understanding how such events really develop or pan out.
Overall its a gripping read and I enjoyed it, particularly the end, although even there I was questioning if some of the actions and results were really plausible. Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a brilliant nail biting rollercoaster of a ride!
Good Samaritan meets evil. When Ben & Abi stop for a couple and their baby who have broken down its more than just their time that they risk losing

This is a gripping thriller.
Abi and Ben are driving home from a weekend away and due to a work commitment they have to drive through thick fog to get back in time.
Abi nearly hits a man at the side of the road but decides to carry on, until she sees a car on the side of the road and a woman holding a child seat.
Ben tells her to stop and soon they agree to help them as the woman has hurt her hand and needs to get to hospital.
That’s as far as I can go with my summary as you need to read the book to find out what happens next.
It’s a great read and is a reminder to me to never stop and offer a lift on a dark country lane.
Thanks to Pan MacMillan and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

What a gripping read!! Was hooked from the start, sometimes a bit chilled!! You never really know someone. To pick up 2 strangers and a baby, rescuing them from their broken down car, what could go wrong?
I recommend this book.
Thank you netgalley for the arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was my third read by C.M Ewan, and by far the best. I love how he turns situations that could happen to any of us into tense, creepy situations.
This book had me totally gripped as I tried to figure out what was happening and who these people were. The twist about halfway in literally left my jaw hanging open, and then tied in very neatly to the ending. This was a pure thriller ride, with no feeling of an action movie as previous read of his was. Characters were built and written well, giving enough insight into each to get a true feel for them.
Thank you very much for the chance of an early read of this.

Sorry for any hitchikers or anyone with broken down cars, but this book is a clear reason to not pick up people on the side of the road.
Abi and Ben are travelling home from a weekend away, Abi is not happy as weekend cut short and as theyre having a disagreement she nearly hits a guy on the side of the road. Further along they see a woman with a baby seat and Ben decides they should stop and help. This turns into the worst decision they ever could've made as they get involved in much more than they bargained for.
The story is told in past and present from both couples. With few characters this journey gives a locked room scenario from a car. It's a tense bumpy ride. Ewan's books get better each time

This is my first book of C M Ewans and it won't be my last. Abi and her boyfriend Ben pick up stranded Samantha and Paul Clark with their baby, Lila from a country lane near Bodmin on a foggy night! It certainly brought me to some nail biting and spine chilling moments when reading this book. It was fast paced and unputdownable! All the sub plots come together to a climatic conclusion! One not be missed. I highly recommend this book.

Abi and Ben have been away for the weekend to Cornwall and are travelling home earlier than anticipated as Ben has been called into work. The weather is against them, there is thick fog and visibility is very poor, which isn't helping Abi's mood, they take a wrong turn and Abi then has to swerve to avoid a man who has materialised in front of her car. Ben thinks they should go back but she refuses, as they continue driving they see a car on the side of the road and a woman holding a baby's car seat, they know they can't leave a family stranded and offer them a lift, however they quickly realise they've made a huge mistake when the couple begin behaving very oddly.
The Wrong Turn centres around two couples; Abi & Ben and Samantha & Paul and tells the story of what happened when Abi took a wrong turn and ended up rescuing total strangers who had broken down on the side of the road. The story is told in past and present and from the perspectives of the main characters. It's a fast paced read, with great characterisation and the quality of writing that is fast making Ewan one of my go to authors. His ability to draw the reader in and keep us guessing from one chapter to the next is pure brilliance and the twists just kept on coming. One thing I do know, after reading this, I certainly won't be stopping for anyone on a foggy night! This is the fourth book I've read by this author and they just keep getting better. If you like a thriller that is full of mystery, drama and suspense then you will not go wrong with this one.
I'd like to thank Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for inviting me to read this. I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

I loved reading this book. Abi and Ben are driving home in dismal weather conditions. On the road a car has broken down and they feel compelled to offer Samantha, Paul and their baby a lift. From there the Stirling takes on twists and you are kept guessing. A definite must read.

This was super sinister and creepy! Yes, you may well not stop for a lone man on the side of the road on a dark and foggy night, but when you see a woman with a baby seat, that's going to pull on your heart strings, right?
Ben and Abi feel compelled to stop and help Samantha, Paul and their baby girl, stranded with their broken down hire car and Samantha's hand needing medical attention. Very quickly, the alarm bells start to ring though, not least when Paul pulls out a gun!
Fasten your safety belts, this is one crazy ride and the road ahead is twisty and very dangerous!
This binge-worthy book has everything I love in a thriller; the plot is superb, the pace doesn't let up, the characters are compelling, whether I like them or not, and I had to keep reminding myself to breathe!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, C. M Ewan and Pan Macmillan for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Chris Ewan takes everyday situations and poses the question 'what would you do?' Inevitably you should never take the course of action as the characters in this book - we the reader in 'Safetown' know this. Here Abi and Ben find themselves in a predicament, do you help the strangers at the roadside? I mean what could go wrong....
What follows is an energy paced read that takes you along with breathtaking speed until the twists and turns finally spit you out with a few more revelatory shocks thrown in for good measure. Action packed and nailbiting stuff - a C M Ewan trademark. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of his previous books and suspect this has TV series stamped all over it!

Driving late at night in the fog, Abi and Ben make a wrong turn and come across a couple in need of assistance on the side of the road. Is playing the Good Samaritan a good idea?
One Wrong Turn is a twisty read from start to finish and you never quite know what is going to be revealed next. There is an under-running of unease all the way through though which keeps you gripped and makes it hard to put down as you read on to find out what will happen next. It really shows you how just one action, in this case taking one wrong turn, can have massive implications on your life.
I don’t want to say too much in this review for fear of spoiling it - it’s one of those books that you really want to go in blind for. Occasionally the amount of cliff-hanger endings for chapters get a little wearing after a while and it does spiral out of the realms of realism towards the end. However, it’s a solid read and I do recommend it for fans of twisty thrillers.
Overall, One Wrong Turn is a tense, twisty thriller. Thank you to NetGalley & Pan Macmillan for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is delightfully bonkers! And I mean that in a good way. It grabbed me from the off, held me captive throughout, spitting me out at the end, exhausted but satisfied.
We start with Abi and Ben driving home early from a weekend away. Abi is annoyed at Ben for putting his job before her, again. So much so that she misses the turning they should have taken. Which is good for us readers, as if they had made that turn, they wouldn't have literally nearly bumped into Paul as he tried to flag them down. They ignore him but soon after come across a broken down car in a lay-by and a woman with a baby. Ben persuades Abi to stop this time, and she does, and they pick them up...
We then go back in time to see how Paul, Samantha, and baby Isla got to where Abi and Ben found them... And slowly start to realise - at the same time as Ben and Abi - that things are not always as they seem and that things are about to get hot and heavy, and very very dangerous...
OMG this book delivered punch after punch after shock after surprise. Often deliciously over the top. Well, maybe at the time, but after all was said and done, after all the secrets came out, the deceptions revealed, I actually sat back and applauded the author for such a well plotted book. The way that he inserted the snippets from the past at exactly the right times to illustrate, explain, and progress the action happening in the present, genius! So much so that I pretty much read start to finish in only a day. Luckily it was sunny so I lounged outside on my hammock for the duration...
OK, so it was, at times, a bit over the top. I refer you to my previous bonkers description, but it was so much fun...
All in all, a cracking addition to an already impressive back catalogue. Roll on next time! My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I was engrossed in this book from start to finish. It’s a gripping thriller of a read. Young couple Abi and Ben returning home from weekend away come across a woman and baby in a broken down car after missing the road they should have turned off. The weather is dark, it’s damp and eerily foggy which certainly added to the atmosphere of the story.
The tension, menace and intrigue was constant. I had no idea who to believe or how this plot was going to turn out

Awesome.
Abi and Ben are driving home down foggy country roads, arguing about having had to cut short their weekend away when they take a wrong turn. Abi’s driving, but her eyes leave the road for a moment as she says something to Ben – just as he gasps. A man is in front of the car, waving a torch. Abi swerves to avoid him. Ben tells her they should stop and go back, but Abi refuses. It’s dark, the roads are isolated and they don’t know this stranger. But, as Abi continues on, they see a broken-down car. Every instinct is still telling Abi to drive by, but then she notices the woman holding a car seat with a baby in it. For a moment, Abi hesitates, but they can’t leave a mother and baby on the side of the road. Agreeing to give the family a lift, they set off again. But now these strangers are inside their car and it might be the worst mistake they have ever made .
Loved it so much.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hodder Straughten for giving me an advance copy.
