This novel is best summed up the saying ‘no good deed goes unpunished’.
Abi and Ben are driving home from Cornwall on a dark, foggy night when they come across a broken-down car with Samantha, Paul and their small baby Lila. Abi is reluctant to stop to give them a lift but Ben insists.
From here on in the tension slowly builds to a breathtaking ending.
Told in 3 POVs and dual timelines, the plot is expertly crafted and the characters were well developed and totally believable.
The descriptions of the foggy night in twisty Cornwall lanes add to the tense atmosphere of this thrilling and suspenseful novel.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

My husband loves this author's books, but I've never read one. I'm seeing the author speak at a local Crime Festival soon, so I thought I'd give one a go.

I liked it, and it was certainly propulsive - I read it in one (two and a half hour) appointment at the hairdresser. I have to say, though, I wasn't completely wowed by it. I certainly didn't see the twist in the middle coming, but I thought the ending was a little bit far-fetched.

I have read all this authors books, and once again, One Wrong Turn does not disappoint!

It IS one of those books that, once you start, you can’t stop reading. The dishes won’t be washed, the dinner won’t be cooked, the clothes won’t be cleaned. Nothing will be done until the last page is read!

The dark, scary atmosphere of driving down deserted roads at midnight doesn’t let up. The little twists that are dropped throughout the chapters like nuggets get bigger and bigger until the final few pages, and you’ll have to take a few moments to get your breath back!

Well paced throughout with quick chapters adding to the impending drama and characters that you immediately love or hate (and then change your mind amount), you’ll devour this novel!

From page one this gets right into those eerie feels. We have injured Samatha, Paul and baby Isla driving in the fog when they break down. Also driving after a weekend away are Abi and Ben, after missing a turn they encounter the stranded family and agree to drop them at the closest hospital. But are this family as vulnerable as they say? With Abi fighting her own demons she begins to question things and becomes increasingly confused as to just what they could be lying about and more importantly how her and Ben have been dragged into this.

This was a super tense read, the anxiety I felt was real, the not knowing and chapters flipping back to earlier in the morning made the tension increase, once I started I couldn’t put it down. It was a compelling, claustrophobic ride and I had actual balls of anxiety in the pit of my stomach. Absolutely superb writing!

Many thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for my eARC

My Review:
There was a good concept to this book. A couple take a wrong turn and get caught up in a deadly situation. It had some tense parts but it ended up feeling a bit drawn out. There are only so many times I want to hear about how foggy it was. I understand building atmosphere but this seemed to be talked about and described way more than it needed it be. The characters themselves were good and there was a bit of a twist there that I wasn’t expecting. But then the ending came and although I won’t talk about details there were parts I just found unrealistic which detracted from the fast past tension it was trying to build. Overall this was an ok read for me. It didn’t blow me away but I’ve definitely read worse.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

This books is the actual definition of a page turner!! Wow! I was hooked and gripped from the start!
I was so invested. The plot coming in short sharp fragments over two separate timelines, and it got a little vague but it wasn't confusing. Just another puzzle piece.
Overall this book did completely overtake everything (nothing got done until I was finished!) , but in the best possible way.

Abi and Ben are driving home to Bristol after a curtailed weekend in Cornwall. The night is foggy and Abi is reluctant to stop when they are flagged down by a stranded family. However Ben wants to help and so begins their nightmare. Caught up in a plot to defraud a wealthy couple, Abi is forced to drive when Ben is attacked and then she has to fight for her life.

This is an exciting read but feels quite overwrought in terms of plot and execution. I did enjoy it to a certain extent but was pleased that the book was a quick read as it just got less believable as it went on. Yes, it's twisty but the characters are not very engaging. Five stars for pace, less for narrative.

Excellent writing a real page turner of a book.

Nail biting build up, I could not put this book down.

Twists and turns galore, you think you know someone but do they have a dark selfish side that you know nothing about. The car journey of nightmares. Do you really want to pick up hitch hikers after reading this?

I absolutely loved this book. Pulled me in from the first page and kept me hooked til the end with plenty of twists along the way. A must read.

This is the perfect example of a page turner!! Wow! I was hooked and gripped from the start!
What on earth was going on? Where was it going? I was so invested. It was such a mystery at the beginning, with the plot coming in short sharp fragments over what feels like two separate timelines.
C.M Ewan writes so vividly that the book was just coming alive as I read.
I really thought this would be a full 5* - but the ending just got a little bit out of control for me. The final 10% was just plain nuts!! It turned from thriller to action in the blink of an eye. Due to Ewan's writing, it played out so well in my head, but it was still pretty mental!!

Overall this book did completely suffocate me, but in the best way possible. It was all consuming on so many levels. Would be a great film! I reckon this would be a great book to get you out of a slump too!

Ben and Abi, away for a well needed weekend away in Cornwall, when Ben gets called back early for work. A lawyer trying to push his career and impress the partners. Abi had been a nanny, but decided she could no longer look after other people's children after suffering her second miscarriage.

On the treacherous journey through rural Cornwall, they come across Paul and Samantha with Lila, their baby daughter. Stranded. Broken down in the horrendous weather in the middle of the night. Ben foolishly offers them a lift, Abi doesn't want strangers in her car and especially not strangers with an infant. Was her instinct to be suspicious correct? Why were Paul and Samantha being so coy, so withdrawn...so dubious. Something doesn't sit right with Abi and she can't stop thinking about it.

This is true rollercoaster of a ride with more twists and turns akin to roads in which it depicts. A book I simply couldn't put down. Once I'd started I found every spare moment I could to get it finished. C.M Ewan, bravo sir. This is a masterpiece.

One Wrong Turn started well and for the first half it was a tense and scary read.
Driving home to Bristol from Cornwall one late, foggy night Abi and Ben stop to pick up a couple and their baby whose car has broken down.
From this moment I was internally shouting at Abi and Ben to stop and not continue with their journey and reflected on what I would do in their situation. I loved the way the author built up the tension with the parallel narrative about the couple, Samantha and Paul in the days before they are picked up by Abi and Ben. It takes a while for the reader to understand what’s happening and I really enjoyed this section of the novel. However as more becomes clear to the reader I felt that the plot became more ridiculous and the tension was lost.
A mixed read for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan Team for sending me an early thrilling read!
This is my second book of CM Ewans so I knew it would be a good read.
Get in and put your seat belt on for a thrilling ride!
It's an extremely foggy night and to make matters even worse Abi and Ben take a 'wrong turn'. The atmosphere is built through out Ewans writing. There is tension between Abi and Ben, things have been left unsaid and not only that Abi nearly runs someone over, standing in the fog. The suspense heightens, as they carry on, they come accross a car with the bonnet up and a woman carrying a baby carrier. After much debating, they stop to see if she's OK......WRONG TURN
The characters were great and plausible, this book was a real pageturner full of twists and turns. For me, one of his best to date! I loved it! 5* psychological thriller!

I thought that a book based mostly in a car wouldn't capture my attention, but how wrong I was, this is a suspenseful psychological thriller that delivers from the off at full breakneck speed.Never have I read a book where each chapter has left me wanting more because the tension was so high I just wanted to know what was happening and why.Its always exciting whenever you find a new author who's books, you can't put down and after this high speed read this is an author that's going on my go to list in the future.

Starts with tension and mystery- who are these people and what are they running from then turns into an all out corpse fest!
the tension runs high throughout, the plot thickens with each chapter and the truth comes out of left field!

When a couple swerve to avoid a man in front of their car on a foggy drive home through country roads, they differ as to how they react. Would you stop to search for a stranger? And would you stop if you spotted a woman and a baby beside a broken down car? Abi agrees to give shelter for the pair, but is it the best idea she’s ever had?

It's an atmospheric, claustrophobic thriller set mainly in a small car- sounds unlikely but it works really well and I read it in one day I was so gripped! A couple pick up another couple who are stranded in thick dense fog in a remote part of Cornwall. I won't say too much about the story as I don't want to give any spoilers but the fog is a character all on its own! Youre never really sure who you can trust either.
For me there was a little too much dialogue and description in the blow by blow accounts of what happens, especially towards the end. Ultimately this didn't spoil it and I absolutely raced through it.

One Wrong Turn was a gripping read, I was even thinking about the book when I was doing other things trying to work out what was happening. It was quite scary in places, I will never see fog the same way again. Abi and Ben are driving home from a supposedly Romantic weekend away, but Ben has been called into work on the Sunday so they need to leave early. Abi has something she wants to tell Ben, but before she can do so they spot a broken down car and against Abi's wishes decide to give them a lift.

What follows is a nightmare of a journey, is anyone who they say they are? What is the rush? Who can be trusted? Full of tension, Abi's fear is acute you want to be able to rescue her.

Unputdownable and a must read

I love a fast paced thriller, non stop action and edge of your seat drama and #OneWrongTurn delivers throughout.
A particular highlight would be towards the middle of the story there is a real WTH moment which will have you wanting to reread everything you have just read, I just love a genuine shocking plot twist, they are so rare.
My only negative would be that towards the end I think it may have dragged on slightly too long, you know when you're watching a film and a character has been shot 5 times, stabbed, electrocuted, beaten black and blue yet they're still standing. It felt slightly unbelievable the abilities of certain characters strengths. However, overall a fantastic thriller and I strongly recommend. Thank you #NetGalley for the arc
