I don't know whether the setting for this was largely in a car, but this was a very tense and claustrophobic read. First time I've read a book by this author and delighted to find a new author.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.

Another thriller that I found hard to put down. Don't trust anyone, especially random people you find on the road! It kept me invested all the way through, I didn't expect some of those twists and turns. I would like to see this as a tv movie or show!

This is Ewan’s third novel that I’ve read so far and I really enjoyed it.
Ewan is a master of unexpected twists and red herrings. His descriptions are always thorough and relevant to the plot. He is excellent at showing the characters’ emotions, making the reader live through them as if they are part of the story. This will be a hit!
One thing that I noticed, in the final chapter: “Next weekend, we’re taking Oscar down to Cornwall to meet Gary’s parents for the first time.” I think it should be Ben’s parents.
Thank you for the arc, Pan Macmillan and Netgalley!

One Wrong Turn follows Abi and Ben, who pick up a stranded couple with a baby, only to find themselves entangled in a web of deception. While not the most original, this novel delivers a gripping, enjoyable ride with engaging characters and steady suspense. It is told from three different points of view and the very short chapters make it a quick read. Each chapter reveals new secrets, keeping readers hooked. Though the twists might be predictable for some, the execution is skilful, making it a solid, entertaining read for thriller enthusiasts.

One Wrong Turn is a fast-paced thriller.
Abi and Ben are driving in Cornwall on a foggy night when they stop to help a couple with a baby. The couple, Paul and Samantha, need a lift because their car has broken down. This leads to a nightmare scenario as Paul and Samantha are not as innocent as they appear to be.
When they stop at an isolated petrol station events take an even darker turn.
This is an intense thriller with lots of twists and an intriguing plot. The story is told from different perspectives and time lines. The fog adds to the dark and creepy atmosphere.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book will give you the one reason why you don't pick people up in the middle of no where in the middle of the night. Loved it!

A novel which opens with a decision based on inherent human decency, which quickly gives crededence to the saying, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions". Wouldn't we all stop our car at night to help a mother and baby standing next to what appears to be; a broken down car? For sure more people would be alive now if Abi had not stopped. Maybe after reading One Wrong Turn you would not now stop. Anyway, it's a gripping thriller with a few twists and turns. After having read it, I can't help thinking that the objective of the criminals could more easily have been achieved. However, that would not have delivered the excitement which C.M. Ewan penned for us.

As soon as I was invited to read this book, I immediately picked it up. I only discovered C M Ewan last year, and have since read and reviewed all books as 5*. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as usual and again was unable to put it down.

Don't buy this book unless you are able to check out of 'life' for however long it takes you to read it!

I was hooked at the beginning of this book. At the halfway stage, something changed. The situations occurring got silly and put me off the plot. The plot could happen in real life and that was what attracted me to the novel. The chapters are narrated by different characters and at stages I didn't know who was narrating. The plot is predictable at times. The chapters are short, sharp and you move forward quickly through the book.

Abi and Ben are having to cut short their holiday as Ben, a lawyer, has to return to work early. Abi is not pleased about this! It is a foggy night and Abi is driving (Ben has not passed his driving test) and due to the foggy night, the driving is difficult. They are arguing when a man appears through the fog into the middle of the road. The plot from this point on keeps you attention.

The other main characters, Paul and Samantha are married and have a baby girl, Lila. Paul’s character is arrogant, shifty and self-centred. I did not like his character. Samantha's whole world is Lila, and, as a mother, the story pulled at your heart strings. Samantha has been asking herself, can I trust Paul, as his behavior has changed recently. I felt sympathy for Samantha.

I was a little disappointed with the book and give it a 3 star rating.

I WANT TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST OPINION

The narrative commences with Ben and Abi, a young couple driving home through Cornwall late one dark, foggy night. Along their journey, they encounter another couple, Paul and Samantha, accompanied by a young baby, seemingly stranded due to a breakdown. Initially hesitant and cautious about stopping to assist, Ben and Abi eventually decide to offer the stranded couple a ride. Little do they know, this decision may turn out to be their most significant mistake yet.

The ambiance within the car is skillfully established even before the plot unfolds, setting a tone of suspense and underlying danger. Ben and Abi are portrayed as likable and relatable characters, drawing the reader into their perspective. While avoiding spoilers, it can be noted that Paul and Samantha's characters are intricately depicted, keeping the reader engaged and eager to uncover their secrets as the story progresses.

As the narrative unfolds, the tension steadily becomes nearly unbearable, prompting readers to ponder their reactions in similar circumstances. Interspersed within the chapters are glimpses into Paul and Samantha's past, shedding light on the events leading to their encounter with Ben and Abi. These interludes serve to deepen the mystery surrounding the narrative, adding layers of intrigue and complexity to the storyline.

While the plot may verge on the slightly farfetched side, such elements are often expected and embraced in the realm of tense thrillers, adding to the overall suspense and unpredictability of the narrative.

The story is expertly crafted with seamless plotting, packed with tension that keeps readers on edge, making it a highly recommended read for enthusiasts of the genre.

Effortlessly blending mystery, suspense, and well-developed characters, this narrative promises an engaging and gripping reading experience for those seeking a thrilling literary escape.

Fasten your seatbelts. You are due for a rocky ride, a foggy night, and rural roads in Cornwall. Abi is itching to discuss an important matter with Ben, but this has not been divulged initially. They miss their turning. A broken-down car halts them in their tracks, and they play the good Samaritan card to Samantha and Paul with their baby Lila – a couple they’ve never met before.

What captivates me immediately is the depth of the characters. You are kept on your toes before you know the reasons. Paul is particularly hostile, Samantha is jittery, and Abi is jumpy. Ben appears calm and helpful but awkward because he senses Abi is not happy helping the couple when a lift is offered.

Clues about the two couples and their mysterious pasts are briefly released—drip, drip, drip. The tension is palpable, and I’d advise readers not to hold their breath for too long as the momentum gathers strength. Also, wear your vest. It’s chilling. As the story unfolds, the characters' true intentions and secrets are slowly revealed, adding to the suspense and intrigue. Watch out for all the cringe-worthy mistakes Abi makes.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan for a tense, dramatic read.

I had mixed feelings about The Interview but I really enjoyed One Wrong Turn. The suspense was really well sustained and it was a classic ‘one more chapter’ reading experience for me!

Some of the characters’ decisions were a bit questionable but generally the characters were life like and relatable and the pacing and plotting were brilliantly done.

Four stars from me!

If you hadn't already been wary of stopping the car to give someone some help, then this story will underline that fear. One wrong turn on a road catapults two unsuspecting characters into a dark tale of kidnapping, murder,, and complex motives The only advice I can give about this story is: don’t assume anything because what you think is happening probably isn’t. I loved it although took me a while to like at least one character thrown into this web of deceit and lies. The author has delivered again a boot full of intrigue and suspense. Dont stop and help! I warned as the story begun, but the wheels were already slowing and I knew then I would be in for a twisty and engrossing ride of a read.

📚 Book Review 📚

This is a thrilling ride of a novel, with twists and turns a plenty on the road it leads the reader down.

We meet Ben and Abi, a young couple driving home one cold, dark night in Cornwall. As they drive the deserted roads, they come across a couple, Paul and Samantha, who have been stranded by their broken down car. Although Abi is very wary about offering a lift to this couple, Ben’s natural chivalry and the realisation that Paul and Samantha have their baby daughter with them, sways Abi into offering them a ride. Surely, this is the right thing to do? Surely, the world needs more Good Samaritans …

This is a very tense read, full of sinister menace bubbling under the surface. Ben and Abi are both realistic, relatable characters and the chapters, which shift from Ben and Abi’s pov to the lives of Paul and Samantha, are skilfully written.

This is a great read with a fantastic plot, easy to get into and difficult to put down. I loved it. What a journey! 😜

I’d like to thank Pan Macmillan, NetGalley and the author for the arc and the fantastic opportunity, in exchange for my honest feedback 😊

Wow this book was so good! If you want a fast paced read that'll keep you on the edge of your seat, then look no further!

The story begins with Ben and Abi, a young couple driving home through Cornwall late one dark, foggy night when they come across another couple, Paul and Samantha, with a young baby who appear to have broken down. Initially, wary and unwilling to stop, they eventually change their minds and offer the couple a lift. Is this the biggest mistake they've ever made?

I love how the atmosphere in the car is instantly created here, even before the action starts, which really adds to the whole sinister and underlying menace. Ben and Abi are likeable, as well as relateable. I can't say too much about the other couple without giving away spoilers but suffice to say, their characters are well captured and keep you turning the pages.

The tension builds to an almost unbearable level and I found myself wondering what I would do if I found myself in such a situation. The chapters are interspersed with details of Paul and Samantha's life and the events which led up to them being offered a lift. These chapters added more mystery to the story.

Effortlessly plotted, tension packed and highly recommended!

Thanks to author C M Ewan, publishers Pan Macmillan and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

One Wrong Turn is a truly nail biting thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. A tense plot that has you feeling claustrophobic and it only keeps on getting started.

Abi and her boyfriend Ben are on their way back home after a weekend away. Driving in foggy weather they spot a couple stranded on the side of the road because of car problems. Abi doesn't want to stop but Ben being a lawyer wants to do the right thing after all they have a baby with them. After suggesting to give the couple a ride Abi has a bad feeling about the whole situation and begins to realise something is wrong but is it too late now.

One Wrong Turn was filled with so much tension and confusion, i was constantly thinking i knew where everything was headed but every time there was a shocking turnabout. Filled with so many unexpected twists and turns and wow moments i was constantly speechless. I got through the book in one day, it was truly a page turner. Told in three povs and in some chapters what headed up to the whole situation unfolding we learn about who the characters really are and they were written very well. I really enjoyed rooting for Abi and couldn't wait to get to the ending to see how everything would come together.

C.M. Ewan's one wrong turn is a must read that will have you breezing through the book. A highly intense thriller that everyone will enjoy. Well deserved 5 star rating, i can't wait to see what other books the author will out with next.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Pan Macmillan for the copy of this arc in exchange of my full honest review.

Two couples, late at night. One stranded by the side of the road, a baby chair hiding a secret, and the other on an unplanned drive after cutting short a weekend break. It's dark, wet, and the couple driving the car are feeling fractious. They too have secrets.

The immediate sense of foreboding in One Wrong Turn is so intense and I was immediately drawn in, with the claustrophobic opening and the clever telling of each couple's back story, played out compellingly, through a series of alternating flash backs; so many times I felt as if I was almost 'watching' the story unfold through a virtual '4th wall', and it's rare for a novel to create such imagery for me. Some excellent play on trickery and yes, 'wrong turnings', but done with such subtlety as to create pitch-perfect pace - I devoured One Wrong Turn in a couple of days.
