I cute duo lingo book. Perfect for the parent who wants to introduce their young ones to another language in a fun way.
I really enjoyed this story!
The illustrations in this book are just lovely - they are colourful, clear, bright and they really do bring the story to life - I loved meeting the characters!
There is a great running theme in the book where it gives you a few French words along with the English that the book is written in - my daughter is learning French at school so this was great for her. The story is easy to follow and understand and my 7 year old really enjoyed it.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
I really loved the artwork and the journey this story takes you on!
Thank you to NetGalley, Elena Joannides, and Mythiko Press for the opportunity to read and review an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion.
The illustrations in this book are lovely. They’re bright, they’re colorful, they’re fluffy they make me want to keep turning the pages. However, the story is supremely long. It feels like someone wanted to make a shorter magic treehouse with no idea how to turn that into a picture book. Plus, there is this running theme that you need to learn French and there are lots of French words for the reader to practice reading and saying. This is about two kids who go on adventures. In this adventure they meet up with a flamingo who is lost because the flamingo has not been practicing its language. The book is fine. It’s just a heavy handed and getting a kid to sit through it could be a little complicated.
"Meli & Mac" is a charming book designed for young readers. The characters, Meli and Mac, are not only relatable, but also endearing. They embark on exciting adventures together and incorporate the practice of the French language into their journeys. This book delves into the topic of migrations, while simultaneously offering explanations and meanings for French words, making it an ideal resource for educational settings such as classrooms and libraries.
The vibrant and captivating illustrations truly bring the narrative to life, making it an enjoyable read for children ranging from eight to twelve years old.
Meli & Mac: Rendez-vous with a Flamingo by Elena Joannides, was a book that just kept on giving from the front cover to the very last page. Plus, to see a little boy smile when he opened this book, then started to read it. My nephew O absolutely loved it. Especially, as it was so colourful and fun to read. He loved the bits of the French language that was in the book Plus, there was more at the back which was magic! (O words!)
O took this book into his school and showed his teacher, now this book is used for their French lessons as they're being taught this.
Meli & Mac: Rendez-vous with a Flamingo became a much loved book for many of O's friends. His mum who is also a teacher enjoyed reading and learning new basic words in another language. This has become a favourite book of theirs.
Within this beautiful book, we meet Meli and Mac and have some flamingo fun in Serendipity Forest - and use the translation guide to learn a little French along the way!
This book is written in English and includes a basic introduction to French words and phrases. A great way of being introduced to French, especially it can be read to younger children while they follow the beautiful illustrations. I also found it great to be one of the first books a young child could learn to read from.....Double bonus.
I loved this book as well and found it fun to read and enjoyed reading this with O and having fun talking basic French to each other..........It's a great way to introduce children to a new language which is beautiful.
I highly recommend this book. We loved it. Thank you x
Big thank you to #netgalley and @literallypr for the hard copy for O.
The most perfect book to get any child to learn the basics of French.
Not only is it extremely informative, it had a beautiful story and the illustrations are some of the best I've seen.
Omg this book was so cute! The illustrations are pure art, the history is pure magic and cuteness. I really loved to be inspired by the message the author passed me. Truly amazing!
My kids and I fully enjoyed reading this book! We loved the adventure Meli and Mac go on, the gorgeous illustrations through their journey, and the mini-French lessons! I anticipate enjoying this one many times through the years!
This was a really cute and imaginative book. The pictures were well drawn and the story line was original. I wish there has been pronunciation guides for the French phrases. I don't speak French and stumbled through them reading to my daughter.
Pjs, cuddling, and story-time before bed is a favorite at our house! The last couple weeks the kids had so much fun reading some new material I was given advanced copies of. It’s cute how now they ask what new books I have to read. As soon as I’m finished they will tell me what they loved about the book. My great little reviewers! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚📖 @netgalley #netgalley

Meli & Mac is a Beautifully illustrated story about two children using French to help a lost flamingo. I loved that the French phrases were spread out enough for anyone to easily read the story and included the translations in the corner of each page. The art style is stunningly detailed and colorful. I especially enjoyed the extra French translations at the end.
Perfect for children who are interested in other languages or parents who want to introduce French to their child.
I received a DRC from Mythiko Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Very educational kids book! It is a story about a brother and sister learning French and using that French while going on an adventure with a flamingo.
Fun story, with lots of bright colors and great pictures. I don't see it being a constant repeat read, but I can see us going back every now and then.
I loved the illustrations of this book. They were engaging and fun. The story fell a little flat for me. It was a fun concept though. Just didn’t keep my attention.
Meli and her brother Mac are about to embark on an expedition when they meet a flamingo who has lost his way. He is seeking the Shrimp Extravaganza and they help him. Mac has a magical bag that contains all sorts of items to assist them in their quest. Along the way, learn some French expressions as well as find out how flamingos get and retain their color!
This is a sweet book and a fun way to introduce children to some of the French language. Of course, the adult reading it aloud will have to know (or look up) how to pronounce the French words! There are some additional French expressions at the end. It is a colorful book, beautifully illustrated.
I adore bilingual books for their imagination, diversity and creativity in helping immerse children in a new language. The story was so cute and easy to move with. The illustrations are beautiful and the translations in the pages are extremely helpful. We need more books like this!
