A simple version of Stan Lee’s life meant to empower children. This short story shows Stan Lee’s life in a simplistic way, showing a young child with a love of reading and writing, becoming a well known and well loved author.
Working with children, I would gladly read or suggest this book to others as a way to inspire children to keep pushing forward with their dreams.
I really like this short Stan Lee bio comic. It is the perfect length for anyone who wants to learn more about Stan The Man Lee.
Stan Lee the comic book is a short awesome graphic novel biography about Stan Lee. We get to see where he grew up and how he started writing comics and then eventually become the head of Marvel Comics. We also see how he becomes the face of Marvel comics and a larger than life personality.
Stan Lee is a great comic to read as a jumping off point to learn more about Stan Lee and the history of the comic book industry. I’d love to see more comics like this one about more comic book creators from the history of comics.
I really enjoyed reading Stan Lee. I hope more graphic novels about comic book creators are published. I love the format as a way to learn about the history of comics and the creators behind your favorite super heroes.
You never know if a comic book like this one can inspire a child to create their own comics and do something special like Stan Lee.
This was a fun little read, it was different to to other books in this series that I've read in that it follows a comic book writer, which made for very fun and vibrant illustrations. It was fun to learn more about such an iconic figure, and I think it's a fun learning opportunity for young readers who are marvel fans but might not know anything about how the franchise came to be.
There is, again, something so poetic about showcasing the life’s story of one of historic most prolific and influential sequential art creators in the form of, well, sequential art. I have been getting emotional about X-Men all month, and this book only made it worse. Heartwarming, truly.
I enjoyed this book and I thought that it was another great addition to this fabulous series that just keeps getting better and better with each new addition.
This book features Stan Lee and it gives a very brief overview of his life for kids - and quite a lot of them will know his creations I am sure!
A great book for kids and one of my favourite series for little ones, I loved the illustrations for this one, it really brought his story to life.
It is 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Amazon and Goodreads - another great addition to the series, fabulous images and easy to follow – highly recommended!
A great new biography in the Little People, Big Dreams series. Stan Lee is a very recognizable name and this is a great intro for young people.
‘Stan Lee’ by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Ana Albero
is a biographical children's book from Little People, Big Dreams.
Little Stan Lee grew up in New York and was an avid reader. When he wasn’t reading, he was writing his own stories. His break came when he got hired by Timely Comics. Then he began creating his own characters and the rest was history.
I love this series and I’m glad to see them do one of my favorite famous people. The art is bright and colorful and I loved the nods to Stan Lee’s co-creators and creations.
4 stars = Great! Might re-read.
This was a fun read. The artwork is excellent, and I appreciated the emphasis on reading/storytelling and perseverance. Would absolutely recommend for young Marvel fans as well as personal/school/public libraries looking for picture book biographies.
The ICON and the amazing writer, Stan Lee!
I mean, I adore him so I was so happy to read about how his tale started, such an inspiration!
Thank you NetGalley!
Stan Lee by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara are wonderful Little People, BIG DREAMS books that are a joy to read with young children. This book is about the amazing life of Stan Lee, the comic book genius who created Spider-Man, The Hulk and Iron Man!
Little Stan grew up in New York City. As a child, he loved reading books, poems and newspaper strips. And when he didn't have his head in a book, he was writing stories of his own.
After he graduated, Stan got his big break in the form of a job as an assistant at a small comic book publisher called Timely Comics. He started by helping the editors with their work, but before long, he was helping to write the comics. He contributed to a Captain America story but soon started to create his very own characters.
From the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man to The Hulk, Stan's superheroes were innovative and exciting. Even though they were super, they felt human, flaws and all. In the years that followed, he built a solid career at Timely Comics. With Stan’s help, Timely Comics grew to become Marvel, the multi-million-dollar corporation behind some of the most successful Hollywood films, including The Avengers, Black Panther and Ant-Man.
Stan created a whole universe of connecting characters and stories which leapt off the page and into the hearts of millions of fans around the world!
This powerful book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the comic book creator’s life.
These are a joy to read from start to finish.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Always love books by this author, who made efforts of highlighting the ordinary life of a person. Just like Stan Lee, who wrote about ordinary people with their superpowers. A normal kid who enjoyed reading and treating all jobs, even mundane ones, as extraordinary. The result: a lot of people know him by his works and his involvement in the making of the said books' movies.
We love these books and this one was definitely no exception! I “knew” about Stan Lee but I definitely didn’t know about his life.
The illustrations were even better than normal in this one.
This is probably one of the best books Little People Big World has done. It feels fun. It feels exciting and it feels like you get to know the real Stanley. It doesn’t feel like you’re waiting for all the information in the paragraph on the last page.
It is a brief biography of a legendary artist who gave this generations a gift of Marvels, Stanley Martin Lieber aka STAN LEE. This is in form of a comic and illustrated well while telling world in brief about his life in making.
I have read Maria earlier also, so felt connected with her writing pattern.
It is good to know how a simple boy with the hobby of reading books & from writing news story in local newspaper become so famous among 2 generations in continuity. I didn't know that Captain America was not his character. Creating superheroes among common man to made them realise that it could be possible, was his biggest achievement, as all of his characters are ground to earth initially and very common in society to even notice. His wife suggested to do so and he made a regular wandered a world savior in present modern era for children of western world. His journey took wings when he met Jack Kirby. And then, 'The Fantastic Four', 'Spiderman' (my most favorite), 'Hulk', 'Thor' and many more and not to forget everyone's favorite 'Ironman'.
After comics, his writing got screenplays and there was Marvels Entertainment. But fewer people knew initially that he played cameo in every movie based on his comics.
This is an inspirational illustrated book for children to learn from someone who out of regularity made himself world famous. To learn for how a creativity & self-belief is enough to give one superpowers.
I enjoyed this short book about Stan Lee’s life. I loved the illustrations and the to-the-point narration about his life, the very beginning of his career, and what put him on the map to become one of the most famous people on earth. This is a great way to teach kids about important people and how they impact our lives.
The picture book was cute. It also matched a lot of the information in Stan Lee's autobiography so it seems accurate. I think my kids would have liked this book.
4 stars
Stan Lee is a new biography for young readers in the Little People, Big Dreams series. These are all delightful and exuberant little books which cover the lives of famous cultural, science, arts, and innovative icons while maintaining an age-appropriate level of detail. Due out 2nd July 2024 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint, it'll be 32 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.
A powerhouse of creativity, inclusiveness, enthusiasm, and flourishing despite all odds, Stan Lee went from being a scrappy son of Jewish immigrants in NYC to creating or co-creating an amazing stable of superheros and turbo charging the silver age/renaissance of superhero comics in the 60s to the blockbuster franchises for Marvel down to the current day. Nearly everyone loves comics and he was an absolute titan of the genre.
Written by Isabel Sánchez Vegara it's easy to read with clear accessible language. The energetic and colorful illustrations are well done. The art by Ana Albero is appealing and colorful and supports the text very well. The art is rich in small subtle details which invite readers to take a closer look.
Well written and appealing, all of these little books are worthwhile and enchanting. This one is a worthy addition.
Five stars. This would make a superlative reading circle book, classroom library book, or gift. Stan Lee was an intelligent and beloved figure and has become an icon for a more hopeful and cooperative future, encouraging reading and literacy, honor and doing what's right, and this little book is a nice introduction to his life and work for the youngest generation. As always, there's a short timeline in the very back of the book with some suggestions for further reading.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book! It's a sweet little book about the infamous Stan Lee. It's easy to read and understand for any age with great little illustrations.
Another solid entry in the series. Stan Lee's early life and burgeoning interest in creating stories are explored here as well as his later start in television and film.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
I have heard and seen Stan Lee, but I realized while reading this book that I know nothing about him. As I have stated many times before, I truly adore this series.
