What a fabulous read I really enjoyed this one. Perfect for a winter's day, imaging lying in the sun. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I truly wanted to love this book, cute Greek Villa, fun neighbors, hot contractor, beach, following your dreams, romance, mama mia vibes - seemed right up my alley. But the writing felt a little clunky, my feelings towards the FMC flipped from "I like her she's fun" to "ugh she's a wee bit annoying" often, I hoped for a little more chemistry between the romantic leads, and the first half is very slow, but then the book ended pretty abruptly.
Some thing I did really enjoy - the descriptions of the surroundings and the food - I really want greek food now and to visit Corfu due to her wonderful detailing.
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Claudia buys a run down villa in Greece after she has been left some inheritance money by from an older relative.when she arrives the villagers think she is crazy to take on the villa but Dimitri the local builder comes to her rescue.
Can Claudia make a life for herself in Greece and will she find the man of her dreams int be process?
Another lovely book by Sue Roberts that takes us in beautiful Greece! I really enjoyed reading the story, and I loved the main male character Dimitri the builder… who doesn’t want a man like that in their life? I loved the storyline, the settings and the romance! All in all a very enjoyable book!!! Great for a summer reading but that can be read all year long when you want some sun and romance in your life!
Reading The Greek Villa brought me back to my honeymoon in Greece, especially since we visit some of the same places in the book that I've been to in real life! Sue Roberts did an excellent job of bringing the magic of the Greek Islands to the page. This cozy, closed door romance will provide a nice escape to those who need one.
I’ve never read a book by this author before but I absolutely loved it! Thank you so much for the ARC! I loved this story, it was extremely well written. Will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author!
Go on vacation to beautiful Greece, fall in love with it, buy a vacation home, meet a handsome man that you are mutually attracted to. I can't be the only one that wishes I was the main character, Claudia, in this book?!?!
Enough said, right? I loved the characters and the slow burn romance. The author did a great job describing Claudia's villa and the relationship of her neighbors. I also love that Claudia was pretty much always eating some sort of Greek dessert! 😆 🤣
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Greek Villa by Sue Roberts in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it and already got another Sue Roberts book to read.
This was a pretty mid read. I enjoyed the plot and characters, but the writing style wasn’t my favorite.
Summers trips spent in Greece as a child then returning as an adult on vacations of enjoyment and relaxation. Claudia loves leaving the UK to bask in the sun at the Greek island of Corfu and after she gets an inheritance from her uncle - she decides to buy a run down villa at auction without seeing the inside.
She takes the recommendation of the lovely bakery owner that her nephew can handle the renovations on the house for her.
Not only does Claudia trust Dimitri with her new home - she starts to wonder what if she gave her heart to him as well; but how would it work when they lived so far apart?
I absolutely loved this story and did not want to put the book down!
Loved all the family dynamics between Claudias family as well as there other characters in Greece. Sue expresses Claudia’s vulnerability with her decision to 1 - buy the villa with the money her dear uncle left her 2 - deal with leaving her parents whom she’s very close to 3- open her heart to falling in love with Dimitri
Would definitely recommend this book to friends
what a book to escape into!
i fell in love with the characters and the locations in the book and as im laid her in greece currently reading this book i can confirm sue roberts certainly knows what a greek summer is like!
a great holiday read
In Sue Robert’s novel, The Greek Villa, Claudia’s life takes a significant turn when she buys a house in Greece without ever seeing it. With an inheritance in hand, Claudia seeks to honor her uncle’s generosity. Claudia recalls fond memories of vacationing in Greece and the idea of owning her holiday home in this place feels like a dream. However, the excitement turns into a little bit of anxiousness as she discovers the villa, she purchased is a fixer upper. Hiring the nephew of a local bakery owner, Claudia learns to manage her expectations while navigating some unexpected challenges. As she builds her dream holiday home, she starts to get closer to her builder. Will she be able to let go some of those preconceived thoughts on love and relationships for herself?
The book beautifully captures the essence of the town’s people, culture, and traditions painting a vivid picture of a small town that thrives off the summer season of tourism. Throughout the book, communication and relationship nurturing is masterfully portrayed. The author emphasizes that relationships require effort and ongoing connection. Additionally, the importance of healing friendships and forgiveness.
Even though I liked the book and would recommend it to others, I felt the character development could have been more in depth. Some of the subplots left me wondering how they tied into the rest of the story. At moments, I wanted a deeper exploration of Claudia and Dimitri’s love story. Nevertheless, I appreciated the slow burn in their relationship. I also liked Dimitri going after Claudia!
Love Sue Roberts and the cover of the novel was beautiful, the perfect romcom. I liked Claudia and Dimitri together. Made me laugh and long to visit Hreece.
This summer read will dazzle you as you immerse yourself into the story by the pool, ocean, or maybe a well-air-conditioned room. I would recommend this book to anyone needing a fun and exciting story to accompany their lazy summer afternoon.
The Greek Villa by Sue Roberts is the perfect escapism if you are having a staycation at home this summer, even better, if you need a good poolside read while you are on your hols, this is a delight!
Set in Greece, Claudia is faced with the task of renovating a run-down villa with the help of a local builder, Dmitri. A sweet romcom with gentle humour and a warm fuzzy feeling all over
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, the author Sue Roberts for this lovely ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
If you are a fan of heartwarming stories, this is a must-read! As a fan of Harlequin and Mills and Boon novels, I have a soft spot for books set in Greece, as they give me an armchair travel to the beautiful country. Sue Roberts added emotions and life to the Greek experience through the characters, and I absolutely loved it. This is my first read from her, and I can’t wait to read more of her work. Travel to Greece this summer by reading!
A book to get you in a summer mood and looking forward to a trip away. An ideal read for beside a pool or even curled up on the sofa on a wet English weekend!
This is one of the most exciting books I've ever read. I loved it from start to finish. I think it's a pretty good story, a cute one that keeps you company. Dimitri is every women's standard haha, even if you might hate him at the start. The atmosphere and everything in this book felt like magic. I enjoyed reading this a lot more than I expected. Congrats to the writer for creating such a good story. Can't wait for you guys to read it when it comes out!
I held of on reviewing this because I didn’t want to negatively impact the release of the book. Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me… I really wanted to like it as the concept was interesting.
At times the flow just wasn’t there in the story telling and certain aspects felt rushed or undernourished. For example, the romantic relationship needed more fleshing out… more love and attention given to it to make it feel relatable and engaging. The FMC wasn’t for me either, there were many times when I found her to be thoroughly annoying and/or obnoxious and condescending.
Things may be someone else’s perfect book, so I do encourage others to give it a go if the blurb interests you. This is just one opinion, mine.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Not a fan of this book. The writing was really clunky, the FMC (I don’t even know what her name is) was super condescending, and I’m not sure there was really a plot - it seemed to end quite abruptly, but then again what more could have been said?
I did like the great cast of locals, but that really wasn’t enough for me to like this book.
This was a lovely book, and it transported me back to my holidays on Greek islands. There were some parts of the writing that I didn't like too much (over explaining, repeating etc.) but overall the story was lovely.
Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and Sue for a copy of this book.
