This manga was so cute and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It follows a tall girl and her short friend who has a crush on her. The miscommunication between them is funny and sweet and I look forward to reading more books in the series!
You Must Be This Tall to Propose by Fumi Miyufu was an utterly sweet and charming manga that had me smiling from start to finish. The humor was on point, and the lightheartedness of the story really made for an enjoyable, feel-good read. The interactions between the characters were delightful.
If you're looking for a quick and cute escape with some laugh-out-loud moments, this is definitely worth picking up.
You Must Be This Tall to Propose is a cute slice-of-life romance. I bought into the romance and found myself rooting for them to get together. There wasn't much overall substance to the story, but if you're looking for light fluff with a childhood friend romance this is a great choice.
"You Must Be This Tall to Propose" is a cute manga series about two childhood friends and the promise they made when they were little. Chitose pledges that he will marry Tomo once he grows taller, but they interpret that promise differently... Each chapter was on the shorter end but endearing as we learn about the cast of characters and Chitose's tries to impress Tomo. I overall liked the manga and look forward to reading volume 2.
You Must Be This Tall to Propose! is actually a romantic seinen manga. Chitose Oki has had a crush on her childhood friend Tomo since forever and he even promised to marry her. Her condition was that the boy needed to outgrow her to do that and well, Chitose is short and Tomo immensely tall. We get to follow their sweet but dumb romance that goes nowhere, but the best part of the series is surely the side characters. I loved Tomo's brothers and how they try to set these two up and created opportunities for them. Chitose is happy with everything he gets out of Tomo and Tomo is like a mom in a sense? Oddly enough the manga is credible and funny even and not creepy. I'm saying this because romantic seinen tends to be the latter. The series is three books long, which is good, since you cannot push to joke farther than that really.
The art is cute and funny, nothing spectacular, but works. The side characters are interesting and they actually have their own personas. This is one of the better romantic series in my opinion. Let's hope it doesn't fall from high and end up being like every other...
Mostly, I like manga where both characters like each-other, but fail at figuring it out and are just awkward. This one just…didn’t hit. And I think it’s the girl love interest is giving too much fanservice. Too many boob-in-the-face accidents. I want adork-able, and this isn’t it.
As for plot: when they were little kids (like 5?), Chitose Oki said he’d marry Tomo, but she told him not until he’s taller than her. Now they’re in high school, and she’s a giant woman, and he’s…average.
Now, I don’t often see tall lady love interests in manga. I wish they’d done better by Tomo, though. Her character traits are basically tall, clueless, sometimes bakes, and likes Chitose. And, to be fair, Chitose ain’t got much going on, either. Only his interest in Tomo is more debilitating. Basically every chapter is “Chitose will do a thing, Tomo has boobs, Chitose fails.” :/
I don’t imagine this comic is going to go much of anywhere. I don’t expect high drama from something like this, but man, at least a little plot and development would be nice.
So, I’d mark this as a skip. Oh well.

This manga was charming and vignette-like, with each chapter feeling like a brief scene that brought a few laughs. While the theme of the girl being taller and the guy shorter was intriguing, I hoped for more exploration of their dynamic and deeper character development.
There was potential here, but I guess that came up short too. The idea is nice and it could have been a lot of fun, but it was a tad bit... dull. And it's a bit sad when I am more interested in anyone but our protagonists.
There are nice moments, but I just couldn't care for our main characters and the heroine is pretty bland - the only trait of her personality is that she is nice and she is tall. That's it. I wanted a bit more development.
You Must Be This Tall to Propose is a lovely introduction to a new manga series! We follow Chitose and Tomo, neighbours and childhood friends. Seeing their growing love was adorable! The artwork was stunning! I highly enjoyed this first volume and hope the author continues soon! I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in trade for my honest opinion. My thoughts are my own.

A delightful and light-hearted slice-of-life romance featuring one of my very favorite teen romance tropes: They're Definitely In Love But They're Terrible At Flirting. Volume 1 was a great start for a series, with enough to feel satisfying but still leaving you excited for the next volume.

You Must Be This Tall to Propose 1 by Fumi Mifuyu was a delightfully sweet manga about childhood friends that promise to marry when the boy gets taller. Unfortunately, the girl got a growth spurt and the boy can't catch up!
I loved the first volume of this romantic and sweet high school story. Recommend for fans of My Love Story and Lovely Complex.
Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author.
This is a manga I would recommend for those who want less Drama in their high-school romance reads.
I'm used to more spice, gore and other things.
So I won't say it was boring.
It was a cute with no real conflict, just two teens who liked one another, but lacked the confidence to tell each other or maybe it was the lack of communication skills either way, it was a recognizable teen/high school setting....
This was the first volume and it did a good job of introducing the characters and giving us the backstory but also establishing the dynamics and relationships.
The relationship between the male protagonist and the brothers of the female protagonist was very cute.
This was entertaining and loveable but ultimately just a quick entertaining read.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this manga. This was an adorable high school romance reminding me of She's My Knight mixed with Ms. Miyazen. Truly if you're looking for something softhearted and fluffy, check this manga out. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars
This is cute and heartwarming with great graphics. I generally find that most manga comics have good artwork but not all of them have a good story. This one does.
Chitose Oki has grown up alongside his next door neighbor Tomo. She is older than him and much taller but he is determined to make his childhood dream come true and marry her (eventually). This is a story about his fumbling efforts to get his dream girl who actually quite likes/loves him too.
Will they get there in the end? Probably, but the road to love is our entertainment!
This manga series starts off well with this volume of cuteness, blushes and young love.

A very sweet manga about Chitose who has a crush on his neighbor Tomo. Tomo jokingly said she would only marry him when he grew up, which he took as literal meaning his height. Which was a small misunderstanding which led to the current situation where he was still smaller than her.
The way they treat each other is very sweet and I enjoyed the manga a lot.
This was so much fun!! The humor was a delight. It was a nice and light read, with funny quips and cute romance. Overall I enjoyed this manga.
A super sweet and funny YA rom com that puts my gorgeous tall girlies on a pedestal. We love to see it. With funny comedy of error moments, this manga is beautiful coming of age tale about a young man trying to grow in order to propose to his childhood crush. I devoured this volume and I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store. I am too invested in these characters now.
4.5 rounded up
Loveable oblivious idiots with the entire world pretty much supporting them all? Who care about each other very much, and just miscommunicated a bit? And it's so sweet and fluffy and easy to read? Yes please!! A young boy is in love with his neighbour who is two years older than him - when he tells her that he wants to marry her, she replies that she will marry him when he's bigger than her! Ensue a friendship that has been on the cusp of a relationship for about a decade. Sweet and funny, will definitely recommend to people who enjoy a good romance manga!
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this manga volume by Kodansha via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion, which I leave voluntarily.
This was a cute and innocuous shojo. No real conflict or Big Bad, just two young teens who liked one another, but didn't have the courage to say so. The MC H was operating under the misunderstanding that she wanted him to be taller than her, so he was obsessed with doing so, despite the scientific improbability of it. I guess he ignored science because it didn't fit his world-view and what he wanted.
Hopefully he will eventually get over his feelings of height inadequacy and ask her out. I am going to keep on with this manga I think. I like the low-key angst and that it's not OTT with Drama. I need less stress in what I read, at least for the time being.
This is one I would recommend for those who want less Drama in their high-school romance manga.
3, this was cute and I enjoyed it, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an eARC of this book to read and review.
A very cute manga about neighbors growing up together and a boy’s eternal pledge to marry the girl of his dreams. The boy, Chitose whose primary goal in life is to be with the girl, Tomo. Tomo who in response to Chitose’s proposal jokingly tells him he needs to be “this tall” (at least as tall as she is) to even propose to her. We follow Chitose’s growing pains as he navigates daily life and his love for Tomo. You Must Be This Tall to Propose is an enjoyable, heartwarming, sweet, wholesome slice of life story that although not new (predictable plot with numerous cliches) is still a great read. It has many funny moments and you can’t help but root for Chitose.
