4.5 stars - rounded up! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my first Caitlin Weaver book and wow - I’m super impressed! I was hooked from the start and didn’t want to put it down.

Best friends and neighbors, Lorrie and Eden have always thought how fun it would be if their children - who have grown up together - would one day start dating. Now that their kids are about to graduate from high school, that wishful thinking has become a reality.

Everything is perfect until one day when Eden‘s daughter makes a terrible accusation against Lorrie’s son. It takes a toll on both families and tough decisions need to be made.

This book is extremely impactful and thought provoking. It is filled with heartbreak and emotion. Told in multiple POV’s - Weaver does an excellent job of really making you feel for these characters.

I highly recommend this domestic drama if you’re a fan of the genre.

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Caitlin Weaver for my advanced copy to read and review.

Thank you Caitlin Weaver, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for the copy of this book. This is my honest review.

This story follows two mothers, Lorrie and Eden, and their children, Summer and Knox. The children have grown up together, since their mothers are best friends, and eventually, Summer and Knox start to date. Time passes, and things seem to be going well for the couple, until one night when that all changes. When that happens, both mothers want to believe that their child is the one telling the truth and they both want to protect their families.

Let me start by really saying how much I disliked Ed with his "women lie all the time about things like this" and other misogynistic stuff really irked me.

At the time, Eden also drove me insane when she told Summer not to do the exam. It could be crucial and she just made the decision for her daughter, as if her daughter wasn't a grown adult and old enough to make her own decisions and decide if she wanted the exam or not. I understand that something had happened to her in the past, but she as using what had happened to her, to possibly ruin her daughter's chances.

Knox was a poor boy without a decent father figure (You suck Ed), and he didn't realize when things had gone so far with his addiction, and it had affected his life so negatively. He did not know right from wrong, because these things were never discussed with him, and all he knew, it what he was exposed to and thought was normal.

As the story progresses, he denies the allegations, while Summer insists that it happened, and then eventually shares her story. I'm glad that she was able to tell her story, and Knox did face some consequences, however, it did seem unresolved in the end. But I can't complain too much about that because both Summer and Knox said that they wanted to just move passed it.

This book had me constantly thinking about the different situations that the characters were put in and trying to think about what happened from their point of views. Lorrie just wanted to believe in her son, Eden had been through a similar situation as her daughter, and wanted to do her best (although a little misguided...), Summer was hurt and wanted to be believed, and Knox..... well..... was Knox, and deserved more consequences.

Also, thank god for Ari and Jules for doing what they could.

Lorrie and Eden are neighbours and best friends - their children have grown up together and the lives of the two families are hugely entwined. When an allegation of sexual assault is made, the harmony is shattered and none of their lives will ever be quite the same.

This book explores a difficult subject and I personally think it does it really well. It is uncomfortable reading at times and shows the wider impact of a sexual assault; the mother wracked with guilt feeling she didn’t protect her child, and the mother of the accused appalled that anyone can doubt her seemingly gentle son.

It’s a gripping story line and very thought provoking; along with the horrendous impact on the victim, it explores the consequences for parents, siblings, friends, the school community and also the perpetrator. It also delves into what may have led to it which was an interesting perspective. Lots of trigger warnings but a highly recommended read.

I'd like to thank Storm publishing and Netgalley for this Advanced Readers Copy in place of my honest review (all opinions are my own)

I've given this 3/5 stars, it was a difficult read due to the subject matter so I find it difficult to say I enjoyed it but I did want to keep reading it and it gave me a lot to think about.

The characters are very well written and you feel their emotions and struggles.

I would read more books by this author as I felt she handled the difficult subject matter very well.

I was totally immersed in this story which is told from multiple POV’s and runs the gamut of many emotions. The characters are well fleshed out and realistic. Every time I picked it up, I couldn't stop reading and was anxious to learn the outcome. I really liked the ending of the story. Many readers will imagine themselves in the position of one or another of the characters and will ask themselves "What would I do?" A tough question with no right or wrong answer. Highly recommended.

TW: Sexual assault.

My thanks to Storm Publishing via Netgalley for approving my request to read an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It is such a beautiful and heartbreaking story that touches on love, loss, grief, and the fierce protectiveness that two mothers feel for their children. When an accusation tears apart their families, best friends Eden and Lorrie must grapple with their new normal - not as friends, but as two women on opposing sides of a heartbreaking situation that occurs between their children. While they may look like the perfect families from the outside, throughout the book you find out that everything may not be as it seems, and some of these “perfect” families may be more damaged and dysfunctional than you think.

Such A Good Family is written in multiple POVs that transition seamlessly chapter by chapter, so you get so many differing perspectives on each character and the events that happen in this book. I feel like the differing POVs in this book give it a much more well-rounded story, since you can hear what is happening from multiple different perspectives.

I highly recommend this book for fans of The Perfect Son by Freida McFadden, One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose, and The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller.

Definitely make sure to check trigger warnings on this one. I could not put this book down! It was as gripping from the very beginning. This is as definitely more of a drama than a thriller but it kept me wanting to read more to see what was going to happen next. I loved the multiple POVs and seeing how the storyline impacted everyone.

I didn't expect a book to be so powerful. I felt what every single character was going through and it was so hard not to feel for their situation except Ed. Ed can go to you know where lol. It was a great read. This would be a great book for a book club to hear how others felt and their thoughts. It definitely has you questioning what you would do if you were in the shoes of the mother's. I definitely recommend.

Trigger warning: SA

This book is more of a drama novel vs thriller. But was gripping! It did drag on a bit further than really needed, but still was a good read.

Eden and Lorrie are neighbors and have been the best of friends for many years, and thier oldest children grew up together. When the oldest kids were little they joked about them growing up and getting married one day. Now, Summer and Knox are older, and are actually dating. From there, accusations are made, people are hurt, and what once was the perfect friendship is torn apart.

This was a poignant and thought provoking read. The characters are flawed and the story is emotionally charged. Laurie and Eden were best friends until Laurie’s son Knox ends up doing something unforgettable and unsettling with Eden’s daughter Summer. Laurie begin to question herself If she really knows her son and if her family is perfect. Eden had a poignant past and what happened with her daughter not only destroyed their friendship and made it traumatic for Summer but also destroyed the family, nothing will be same as it was before.

Many Thanks to the Author and Publisher

Such a Good Family by Caitlin Weaver is an enjoyable book that is hard to put down. The story centers on an upper middle class neighborhood where parents ferry their children from activity to activity, there are neighborhood bbqs and the inevitable comparing themselves to each other. Two of the teens from the neighborhood begin dating. Their mothers are best friends, the boy is a popular jock and the girl is more into the arts. After one of their dates, the girl claims she was raped by the boy. The book explores how this affects their families, as well as the other families on their street. While the book is well written, it seemed liked these characters are recycled stereotypes. The book and characters evoke memories of a Nicole Kidman/Reese Witherspoon Netflix series. I do recommend this book as it did hold my interest and kept me wanting to come back for more.

Thank you Netgalley, Caitlin Weaver, and Storm Publishing for the ebook. This book was so heavy but I could not put it down. I loved all the different perspectives of all the characters told as the story unraveled. In the end, I was just sobbing. A good book if you're up for a good cry.

Two families living next door to each other for years, their children growing up together and becoming best friends, and the moms are best friends. Now it is senior year for Knox & Summer, and they have been dating for a while now. Their moms are overjoyed. Then one night, Knox comes home past curfew, zipping up his hoodie to hide the scratches on his collarbone. Then Summer's mom gets a call saying that Summer is in the hospital. When Eden gets to the hospital, all Summer can say is one word....Knox.

This debut novel will keep you on the edge of your seat, as you wait to see how it will all play out. The chapters go back and forth at first between past and present, so you know something happened, but you have no idea what, then it sets the scene of their relationship. Not only those two families and their friendships, but their whole neighborhood, and the school will have split into their allegiances The far-reaching consequences will obliterate everything in it's sight. This would make an excellent book club read I believe, since this is not only a hot button topic, but there are so many questions you can ask. This book is perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty, and Kia Abdullah.

This was one I just could not stop reading we have these friends who are neighbors and their kids grew up together and started dating recently. Then it goes really wrong when Knox is accused of SA by Summer. Of course no one believes her especially Knox’s Father. Though Summer’s Mom is determined to let her daughter’s voice be heard no matter what.
