I enjoyed this book and the twist st the end was its crowning glory. It had been a long time since I read a book that addressed this particular topic. This one did it really well.
The ominous atmosphere throughout. The woman with a traumatic past shut up inside her house. The lodger with a secret of his own.
The author did a great job unfurling the twists one after the other. Seb's connection to Adriana was one I didn't see coming, and yet there were breadcrumbs throughout.
The characters were very well developed to the point where the final twist came, you go - of course!

In this book, we follow the story of Sebastian, a struggling writer who has rented a room from a wealthy, beautiful widow and Adriana, the widow. It is quickly revealed that her last lodger died a tragic death. After being taunted with mysterious emails, Sebastian becomes obsessed with the death of the previous lodger. Adriana and Sebastian both have secrets from their past that they are desperate to keep hidden. However, there is someone watching them that seems to know everything and is tormenting them.

This flow of this book was up and down. It was slow to start and slightly repetitive but by the time I got to the middle I was hooked and could not put it down. Loved the twists! One of which I figured out a little ahead time and one that completely blindsided me!

Overall, a good, clever and twisty read!

It started off really good and then I lost interest. It took me a while to finish this book. The characters were okay but didn’t really care about them. Sorry I did not enjoy this novel

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a twisted and mind blowing story. The book is a jaw dropping story until the end.

Seb is looking for a new place to stay in London. He finds a room in a mansion in Hamstead Heath for a ridiculous cheap rent. And it also helps that his landlady is a beautiful woman, Adriana, whom he immediately feels a connection with. But soon after he moves in, he receives a threatening email. Adriana’s previous tenant died under mysterious circumstances but it was ruled as a suicide. Adriana is also very close-lipped when it comes to her past. Seb himself has something to hide so he senses she has a secret, too. But he has no idea what he signed up for by moving in with Adriana.

The story is good, the twists are surprising enough. The reason I only award this book with 3 stars is the reason that it is so slow, so repetitive and is over-using the thing with their “past”, their “secret”. Adriana is a very damaged character because of what happened to her in her childhood. But she is really a difficult person, very needy and self-centred. After finishing the book I must say I get it why she is like she is but she still is a difficult character I could not warm to. Seb is like a puppy, infatuated with Adriana from the first second he laid eyes on her. His secret he makes such a thing about is bad but I would not think so bad that he lived his life like he did.

So I had to read page after page about them both feeling watched and insecure and feeling drawn to each other and making their lives only about keeping their past in the dark. I found this very tedious. At one point I debated with myself if I should keep reading at all. But I wanted to know what their secrets where and if they were worth all this effort. It turned out that I found the twists okay and I did not see them coming until shortly before they were revealed. This turn of things enhanced my opinion about the book because now I could see that at least the story was complex and unique.

In the end, it was a decent psychological thriller with an interesting story. But I was not so happy with the storytelling and the characters. I found Seb and Adriana flat, and in her case, tiring. The book would be better if it would be shorter and with a decent pace. I found it too slow, too repetitive and it lacks suspense.

I’ve read this authors books before so I knew I was in for a treat. This story is told in multiple POV with one POV unidentified. I didn’t know what to make of the unidentified POV but they were sure to add thrill to this book. The cover caught my attention and made me want to read the book. I enjoyed the characters and trying to figure out what had happened in the past. A great read!

Firstly thank you for my early access in exchange for a review .
This was an incredible book and one that genuinely took me by surprise which when you read a lot doesn’t always happen!
Written in alternate timelines and narratives this gives the reader a sense of all involved in the plot and the history .
Cleverly written and executed.
Revelations aplenty and a foreboding sense of tension .
I loved this and can’t wait to read her other books !

Seb is an aspiring writer, currently staying at his friend’s cramped flat in London.

He is searching for a place of his own and he stumbles upon an advert for a house in an affluent part of London. The rent is very cheap, but soon it transpires that Seb would be a lodger, renting a room and sometimes doing an odd job for the landlord.

However, the landlord is actually a landlady: a widowed and beautiful Adriana, who lost her husband to a heart attack.

Adriana has a feeling that someone is constantly watching her and turns her house into a security-tight fortress. Rightly so, as she is hiding a shocking secret.

What she doesn’t know is that Seb has a few secrets tucked up his sleeve, too.

I just love A.A. Chaudhuri. Her psychological thrillers always deliver!

This book was written from the points of view of Seb, Adriana, and the Watcher (as I called him!).

I really enjoyed the plot and the twists and turns that took place. I thought I knew who the Watcher was, but I was deeply mistaken. Never in a million years I’d have guessed the ending.

I definitely recommend this book – I read it in two sittings.

Thank you to Hera Books for approving my NetGalley request to read and review this title.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Hera for the book #UnderHerRoof by #AAChaudhuri. I absolutely loved this book about a woman who is being stalked and is scared to be alone. Adriana has a rough childhood until her parents died in a fire accident and she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle. Since then life has been so much better. Then her husband died 7 years ago and she feels terrible alone. Also, weird things keep happening and she is being stalked by someone. She decided to take in a lodger. The first one didn’t work out but this one seems different. Or is he?

Seb is in need of a new place to live in and finds a room in an amazing mansion for a good price. The young and attractive landlady Adriana doesn't really need rental money but does need security and companionship. Her wealthy husband has died and she is scared to live alone. In the background someone knows their secrets keeps them on their toes.
I did like this book, there are a number of twists, some predictable, some unbelievable and some surprising.
I also guessed the main premise from early in the book, but still it was an enjoyable read.
Plot wise I didn't understand Sebs connection to a person he met a few days beforehand.
The tension was good and consistent, but I still found it a hard read. The pacing seemed to ebb and flow.
The complex plot was well thought through and intricate, thank you NetGalley and A.A. Chaudhuri for the ARC.

This is a story about a tenant and owner who hold a lot of secrets and those secrets are slowly coming out which will turn everyone’s lives upside down. This was very twisted and I just couldn’t stop reading it I thought I had an idea of what was happening but of course I was wrong and left shocked.

An interesting psychological thriller with unpredictable twists. Seb is living in London after both parents died. He was living with a friend from university, but wanted somewhere else where he could concentrate on writing his book. Adriana, a youngish widow wanted a lodger as she was scared alone in her Hampstead home. After an initial viewing, Seb meets his prospective landlady. The deal seems too good to be true and she has rules to which he must adhere if he takes the offer up.
The narrative is told from the viewpoints of Adriana and Seb, as well as an unknown other. The plot is believable, though the knowledge that there were secrets in the lives of both of them was left hanging a little too long in my opinion. I'm also not sure about Seb's digging into the deaths of people surrounding Adriana. The suspense towards the end did hook me in though and I enjoyed the book.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC

A twisty, gripping, and twisty thriller that kept me on the edged and surprised me with the big revelation.
It's a long building up of tensione, plenty of surprises but the last part is exceptional.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Firstly a big thank you to @netgalley & @aachaudhuri for this amazing ARC 🫶🏻 I've found a new fave thriller writer! This had me hooked from the get go!! I read it in a day, I couldn't put it down! I loved the multiple POV chapters and found my self non stop guessing who could be behind it all. I also loved the past/present chapters too as it really helped give us a glimpse into what lead us to the now. It was fast paced, full of twists and turns and I was kept on the edge of my seat right until the end 🙌🏻 i loved both of our main characters Adriana & Seb and the fact they both harboured secrets. I don't want to spoil too much as this is a thriller full of mystery and intrigue but I would most definitely highly recommend reading this book!! I'm now obsessed and will be working my way through @aachaudhuri backlist that's for sure!

Seb needs a new place to live in the North London area, money is tight so can’t afford a place to himself, he finds the next best thing a room let by a private landlord, fabulous property, perfect location and moderately priced. Not quite what he’d hoped for, but shared accommodation in such a great property, what could go wrong?…..

And then there’s Adrianna needs a lodger not for money but in the hope she’ll feel safer, an anxious lady, has been through a lot. After her last lodger tragically past, with things with Seb work out better?..

Told mainly from Adrianna and Sebs perspectives, from the beginning to end a great read, a definite page turner with twists and turns throughout.

This was my first time reading this author and I will definitely check out her other work. This book was a creative, unusual plot! I kept thinking it would turn out differently than it did.

Sebastian rented a room from Adriana, who is a widow with a very large, fancy house. Seb is a struggling writer, although he doesn’t do much writing in the book. Adriana’s previous renter died tragically and Seb is aware of some of the circumstances surrounding that. The action revolves around Adrianna, who believes some is watching her inside her house, and Seb, who becomes caught up in Adrianna’s drama. In addition Seb is trying to get information about his father’s death several years prior.

The author does a good job of moving the story forward through multiple secrets and veiled clues about what is actually happening with Adrianna. The story has two narrators, Adrianna and Seb, and the writer moves between them seamlessly.

The book is mystery/suspense/thriller. It definitely fits those descriptions, and the author kept me guessing about what was happening until the last few pages.

I was caught up in the book pretty quickly! It was a good read.

My thanks to NetGalley, Canelo, and the author for the gifted digital copy of the book. My review is voluntary.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Under her roof was an excellent thriller and had me speeding through because I wanted more!! I was able to figure out part way through some of what might happen due to the way it was written, but there was a lot more than I expected.

Seb is looking for a place, and just happens to find the ideal rental, with a wealthy widow who just wants some company. Adrianna is the wealthy woman, and she is also beautiful and not what Seb expected. Seb and Adrianna both have a lot of past history and some dark secrets, and well, Seb goes digging and becomes amazed at what he finds.

I truly wanted to love this book, I really tried but I felt like it was overly wordy and way too descriptive. It is just not a writing style that resonates with me and I find myself skipping parts. Also the characters did not work for me, there were pacing issues, so much repetitiveness and a lot of predictability.
